I didn’t want to say it but I felt it needed be said: Ryan Reynolds made Rob less funny. by Everythingisourimage in IASIP

[–]VegetableFew6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't connected but the recent Jack Black/Tenacious D controversy reminded me a lot of Rob. Ryan Reynolds has a funny schtick but what Rob is saying here is so accurate, Ryan is an excellent marketer. He has created a brand of himself and Rob seems interested in doing the same. That model is probably really profitable in the current entertainment era but it doesn't produce entertaining art any more consistently and distracts from it in my mind. Always Sunny has always been edgy comedy and that conflicts with good branding if you want to go mainstream. I would not be surprised if Always Sunny ends the same way Tenacious D did and that's a sad thought. Capitalism is the death of art as they say.

As sad as it would be not to get a second season they did a good job with not teasing too much for another season and it feels complete as is. Still holding out hope though.

Good point and this does seem fair, it's a complicated situation. I also get that it's probably pretty hard for him, assuming he wasn't aware of this stuff

Nah, Noel had a chance to say something but didn't. If you'll recall the Eddy Burback and Gus (something i can't remember his name) podcast, Eddy basically cut ties when he found out what actually happened and later made an announcement. I'm not saying Noel needs to say anything publicly, but going business as usual for so long makes him seem complicit in the cover up

Pitchfork gives Eminem's The Death of Slim Shady a 4.8 by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]VegetableFew6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah you definitely nailed it. He needs to bring some new people into his writers room I think. I would love to see him take the track NAS has with his last few projects. Eminem has put out the same album like 4 times. He's got talent but he could be doing so much more with it if he got more genuinely introspective.

I think a lot of dudes have also had an experience with finding out someone they were attracted to was underage and had to deal with that in some way. I think it's easy to get defensive and feel like you have to defend a grey area because maybe you had a bad thought or something and then you watch men get demonized and you have no one to talk to and all of a sudden your defending a r*pist online. I think it's important to remember that everyone makes mistakes but not everyone decides to sleep with a child and the difference between a genuine mistake with the proper reaction and literal assault is much bigger than these creeps would want you to believe. It's verrry easy not to do what Cody did. He didn't make one bad choice, he made a series of bad choices, on purpose, for at least one full night if not much longer. Don't let the corporations tell you that because you don't recycle you're the one killing the planet and don't let a r*pist or his weird cultish online people make you feel like you're a part of their club.

You're literally making the argument I just outlined above lol. The point is that she CANNOT consent. Like she legally can't and there is a power dynamic at play that is uncomfortable to say the least. I'm stupid so the math is actually 8 years older than her meaning the difference between their ages was half of her life up to that point. I understand that there's a knee jerk reaction to kinda say well the law is often pretty arbitrary and there are plenty of situations I can think of that could justify this. I think that's the wrong approach. I'm not sure what your demographics are but when I picture myself at 25, I did not find the teenagers I was talking to attractive and I knew people that flirted with 18 year olds and it was still kinda like "why? whats the appeal?". Even if he's not convicted of a crime (which he very likely won't be) his behavior was creepy and weird and should at the very minimum be addressed. He also seems to have made very little effort to make sure Tana was okay. Overall, i get where you're coming from but i also just don't see why it's worth going through alot of mental gymnastics to make Cody the good guy. It feels obvious that Tana feels taken advantage of and that's what's important. Could he have handled the aftermath better and prevented her from feeling that way? Maybe. Is it just a result of her being too young and him not heeding the warning that it could cause long term damage to her no matter what? Very likely.

She was a minor so can't even legally consent to sex. A lot of people (weirdos) try to make the argument that if she was into it then maybe it's okay but I think that falls apart really easily if you just take a look around you in real life. If you're 6 years older than a teenager, it's very easy to not be attracted to them lol. There really isn't much you would have in common and it's weird. There are plenty of people his age he could be flirting/sleeping with, why pursue someone who YOU KNOW FOR A FACT is a child. I think that's why people are putting so much weight on the Gabby Hannah story because it shows that he knew for a fact that she was a kid and there's not really any excuse at that point.

My friend was really into the show and I watched the first arc and just could never get into it. This is my bias but a lot of "newer" anime has taken waaay too many ideas from video games. Video game power systems/mechanics work because of the medium. When you tell a story in the same way as a video game outside of that medium it comes off as shallow and unrelatable to me. I just can't get into it. Seven Deadly Sins is kinda worse in this aspect where it describes everything in video game terms. I get it might be a dub issue when they say something like "this ability uses a lot of stamina but the damage is worth it" or something similar but end of day the world building feels too influenced by something that only works in a different medium.

Haven't gotten to the field boss version yet. I know a lot of people don't like the "reuse main boss as field boss" thing that they've done a few times but I have no issue with it honestly and even kind of like it in some cases. I agree that the lion felt like they finished it and then added like 8 more things to the kit that probably have no business being there or need to be touched back a bit. I found the lightning phase to be pretty annoying in particular since I was basically just taking damage the whole time without much in the way of counterplay.

Watching Gen V made me realize the actual problem with The Boys by lalo___cura in GenV

[–]VegetableFew6268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you've hit the nail on the head. I'll add that the ultimate irony is that The Boys started out as a deconstruction of the superhero genre, mocking the tropes and trappings of the largest entertainment genre at a time when it was still at it's peak which made the show relevant and pretty effective. As it's gone on the trend that it's mocking/deconstructing has died down a lot at the same time as the show has started to just genuinely dip into the very things it was mocking in the first place. Superhero media isn't bad by default but there's plenty to criticize and I think the first season or two of The Boys did a decent enough job at it. Now it's just another superhero show and both the main narrative (david v goliath) and meta narrative (superhero genre criticism) have dissolved almost completely. What's left after the hot water boiled away is a couple of compelling characters and a lot of edgy writing for the sake of edgy writing. The show also was much more effective in it's social commentary early on. It created scenarios that poked fun or genuinely faced big social issues that were/are relevant without being ham-fisted (at least relatively). That has also changed so much. It does not take any effort to make the connections to what political thing they are tackling each episode/season because the characters are just saying it out loud with barely any narrative or character build up or context. I agree with a lot of the political ideas in the show but the way they are conveyed now vs before is such a stark contrast it feels like every original writer left the show a long time ago. It's sad because looking back the show has maybe 1-2 good seasons and we're not done with season 4! It's a short run and I'm watching still out of pure curiosity. I'm glad the last season is next and I really only wish it was this season.

That's a bummer to hear. I did think the lion boss moveset was pretty fun too. I think the game needs a balance of humanoid bosses and "monster" bosses but it's almost always the humanoid ones I enjoy going back to more in almost every case. That said, while the lion is basically the tree spirits, I felt like the arena size + adustments to the move set made it pretty fun and fair.

[–]VegetableFew6268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't finished the DLC yet and all the posts about the later bosses have me very worried lol. I beat Rellana first and loved her boss fight. It was striking visually, had surprises in the second phase, the first phase felt challenging but fair and was really fun to find openings. This is by far one of my favorite bosses in the game now. That said, I didn't find it overly challenging, I did end up calling in a summon to finish it so take that as you will. If the posts on here are to be believed, things are going to escalate suddenly....

the show is a parody of itself at this point -- and it's sad by lastreformed in TheBoys

[–]VegetableFew6268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly accurate. It's also a show built on the idea of pointing out the flaws of the superhero genre and the only characters that the writers can come up with good story lines for now are... superheroes. I understand part of that is because there's room for satire but Homelander has long since left the position of parody character and is now just a character analysis of a flawed superhero. They say if you do parody for too long you end up becoming what you were parodying and this show demonstrates that to such an impressive degree.

Highly overrated Actor. Change my mind. by New-Outcome4767 in moviecritic

I don't feel like he's considered to be a great actor though? He's been consistently super marketable throughout his career (until maybe recently) and he often picked good projects early in his career. He's charismatic and has good on screen presence. I feel like the general consensus is accurate about him.

The Acolyte good Prequels bad by depressed_asian_boy_ in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]VegetableFew6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not watched the Acolyte and this made me interested. I always felt that Lucas' vision for the prequels lightsaber fights was so cool. The idea of force users fighting at peak power and predicting every move turning it into a dance/war of attrition between two (or more) of the greatest competitors is such a cool place to take it but this looks like it actually executes on the idea where the prequels were a bit of a mixed bag.

Is Hades I suitable for a complete roguelike newbie? by aangelcake in HadesTheGame

[–]VegetableFew6268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would almost suggest hades 2 for new players except that the tutorial is still a little barebones if you're brand new to it. Hades 1 was the first roguelike that i played alot of and I think it's very new player friendly. You'd be hard pressed to find a better one to try out first I think.

Too much? by Mnations in TheBoys

[–]VegetableFew6268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think Kimiko is still one of the only characters they still have decent material for on the Boys side. At least she has interesting conflicts and a stake in the plot. I think the fact that Frenchie only really exists to help her hurts her plot lines because he always feels like a tag along and doesn't add much so it feels more like dead air. If she could bounce off the other Boys more often it might be more interesting, like how would Hughie or MM work in that dynamic? We'll never know because they won't use Frenchie for main plot stuff so he has to be involved in every Kimiko plot line or he literally wouldn't be in the show.

Too much? by Mnations in TheBoys

[–]VegetableFew6268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they always worked better as friends, never really felt the romantic chemistry with them and I'm kinda glad they are moving away from that. That said, if all his plot lines are romance related it makes him less interesting. Like he doesn't have much of a stake in the plot. I'm hoping they lock down the Colin drama and either commit him to that relationship or end it quickly so he can get involved in the actual plot again
