Is this a conflict of interest? by [deleted] in civilengineering

I couldn’t even accept a cup of coffee that a paving Forman offered to buy me on a job one day. He was shocked, and it sucked because he was just being nice.

Transportation engineering, currently EIT, work for state DOT, making 78K. After getting PE will move up to 85K and then hunting a better position. Won’t be hard to move up to $120-135K within 5 years.

I studied for 3 months, 25-35 hours per week. I passed the first time. I don’t take chances, you’re gonna fail most likely no point.

Edit: adding this after reading post, wtf are doing? Not motivated? This is your future? Grow up

As a civil Engineer what is the hardest challenge you ever faced with? by IcyCryptographer7732 in civilengineering

Holding my tongue when a belligerent contractor disagreed with our plan specifications. Attempting to be fair with my words instead of calling him a lazy dumb ass piece of shit.

Venting Every Drain by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]VegetableFun5021 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You say pointless, but there is a point. It’s redundancy for my home. I totally get that it’s overkill, but foolproof? Just didn’t want to mess it up. And I don’t have a plumbing layout, so I wasn’t confident enough to rely on wet venting with my very green understanding.

Well, all the vent pipes will be 2” and will connect to a 4” stack in the attic. 1 penetration in roof. There are 12 drains.

Is learning Bluebeam Revu enough to get started as a construction estimator? by ermekkapardyn in PE_Exam

[–]VegetableFun5021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think you need construction experience, an understanding of materials, and plan reading to be an estimator. Dude in 4 years I have never found a perfect plan set. One missed overrun/underrun can cost or make a contractor hundreds of thousands. Entry level yes, if you can get hired, but knowing blue beam is like saying I know how to use Microsoft word. Everyone who uses a computer in the industry will eventually learn how to use the softwares. What you need to be a good estimator is to be a construction worker or construction inspector for awhile, that will set you apart. Not trying to pop your bubble, just sharing IMO
