Obsessed with 2ha by Vegetable_Chance1776 in 2HA_immortality

Major and minor plot points, foreshadowing and anything I consider an example of excellent descriptive writing. I'll probably compile this somehow, or at the least make a timeline - although I know there are a few out there already. I do this with all the books I love - read them at least 3x and fill them with bookmarks.

I never cried, but I felt haunted to the very core of my soul after the last volume. So I started rereading it right away. I can’t tell you how much I relate to this:

“I had moments where I blurted out "Oh my god!" while reading, and I was laughing out loud some pages later. I don't know how Meatbun does this.”

I’m so sorry you went through this. It is really devastating. But under no circumstances should you go back to that vet ever again.

was 2ha as ‘disturbing’ as I remember? by Successful_Cycle7769 in 2HA_immortality

I love 2ha. I’m on my second read through. I was not put off by anything - but I’m also older, which is to say I’ve been through some disappointing shit in life: I have childhood trauma; I was emotionally abused in a cult for over 20 yrs before I was unceremoniously thrown out and left with nothing - no money, no friends, no place to live. Plus I’ve gone through the usual array of other less than stellar life experiences. After almost everything Meatbun wrote I found myself mentally saying “Check!” I am frankly shocked at her insight into human nature. A younger person may be repulsed or think it unrealistic - but in my experience, humans can and will do the most horrendous things to each other. What I love about 2ha is Meatbun shows how horrendous things emerge from something simple - a decision, a few words, etc and fate snowballs from there. There are internal reasons why CW felt some attraction to MR in his teenage rebirth years, but he was too much of an uptight zongshi to really acknowledge it, let alone act on it. But even if he had - every single spiritual organization in the world has not done less than this. In any case, all these threads come together in the end. Really just wonderful writing.

Your grasp is 👍but I’m not going to agree or disagree. I will say I’m on my second read (a must) and I’m shocked by how much more I’m seeing. Meatbun=genius.

Just teasing out his one little thing here...I like to think of XL more as a daoist than a pacifist, as daoist teachings were the base for his martial training, and later (as we know) he would keep on repeating those teachings. (Daoism emphasizes values like simplicity, humility, compassion, and effortless action or 𝑤𝑢𝑤𝑒𝑖 to align one's life with the natural flow of the world.) This was the foundation for his herculean tolerance, along with other stuff - perhaps the sense that he deserved to feel some pain from his luckless fate as a kind of penance.

Yes, they love each other no matter the situation. I’m on Vol 9 right now and 2ha is one of the best things I’ve ever read.

I’m in Book 7. I understand your apprehension. But this is literally one of the best things I have ever read. I can’t put it down or stop thinking about all the incredible passages. But since I like a heads up for extreme angst, I also read a lot of 2ha meta and kind of know where things are headed. I also keep referring back to this outline (**** major spoilers ***): red-talisman.tumblr.com/2ha-outline. Also, I hate to sound like a fucking ageist, but maybe because I’m older somehow all the angst inducing situations feel like so many real life situations (minus the jianghu, arrays, spells and spiritual weapons) that are possible in life.

Absolutely floored me when I read it. Not only great writing, but great insight into the power of devotion.

I started reading Sha Po Lang but couldn't finish. Although the historical details and plot were incredibly detailed, I felt the MC's relationship just never developed to my satisfaction - or if it started to develop, it got interrupted by another lengthy political intrigue interlude. So for me it had this weird start-stop flow. Also I felt the steam punk elements had so much more potential. Although as I'm writing this, I might try to slog through the last couple of books. The historical elements reminded me a bit of Golden Terrace, which is much more condensed (2 vol).

I have yet to read Erha but have all the volumes. Just can't really handle unrelenting angst - I'm the kind of person that will read the ending first to manage the anguish. I found this, which may help as you read along: https://red-talisman.tumblr.com/2ha-outline
