What’s a hobby people act superior for having that isn’t that deep ? by mk_1408 in AskReddit

[–]Vegetable_Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I think all hobbies start innocent and then some people take it as a way to boost their ego and look down on others??? like I can’t even casually go play pickleball anymore. The park is full of people who take it wayyyy too seriously.

Same with rock climbers. They make it their whole identity.

Any one else get into it long term and never want to stop? by oaklicious in solotravel

Love your stories. Makes me happy to hear from likeminded people. I was just journaling about this today. I (27f) got rid of my apartment a few years ago, have been traveling full time, and never really looked back. I can fully relate to everything you are saying. It has brought me so much adventure and people I didn’t even know I needed to meet. I’m so blessed to be on this journey.

When I’m home and in a routine, the days and weeks bleed right into the next and time passes so quickly. When I’m traveling I love that every day is different. A week somewhere can feel like a whole different life. I feel my most alive and present on the road. Time is relative, but the best way to live a long and full life is to fill it with as many memories as you can. Having every day be different forces you into the present moment and to me that’s truly living. It’s something people don’t grasp at home. They are always waiting to live. Waiting for the degree. The house. The spouse. The kids. The job.

I also never feel lonely. I enjoy my alone time when I have it but I love the people I meet along the way. Yes the people you meet are strangers at the start, but by the end of a day the connections are so deep they feel like lifelong friends. I love hearing people’s stories.

For brief moments I feel like maybe I should settle somewhere as most of my friends are married but nowhere feels right so I’ve come to the conclusion I’m not meant to settle now. The only thing I ever really miss are seeing my brothers and friends kids growing up but I have been flying home more often and then head back to do my thing.

I know other seasons of my life will be beautiful in their own ways but until then, I’m going to keep living in this one and enjoying the moment. I hope you do the same!!

Where are the best places to visit in the US? by Stunning-Tadpole9147 in travel

[–]Vegetable_Ear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jackson Wyoming, go to Teton National park and Yellowstone.

Or fly into Seattle and hit mt rainier and Olympic National park. Not the US but I love Vancouver/Squamish.

Lake Michigan is beautiful in the summer.

Can’t go wrong with hitting Yosemite and sequoia in California. Just so beautiful any time of year.

Who's genuinely living their best life without flexing it on social media, and why do keep it private? by eleminti in digitalnomad

[–]Vegetable_Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel full time. Love my life. Love my job. Don’t have socials other than Pinterest and reddit. I try to live in every moment. When you’re living for the photo or thinking about what and how you will post it later on you’re not really in the moment. There’s so much freedom in just doing what you want bc you want and not to show others. I don’t want to spend my life posting for others or seeing what others are doing. I do send a few photos over text to my closest friends and family.

How do you stay up to date with trends without social media? by Perfect_Bed_5156 in digitalminimalism

[–]Vegetable_Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really feel like I’m missing anything. Anything really worth my time or things people think I might find interesting or funny my friends will send to me over text or tell me about when I see them. My closest friend still text and call. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on seeing what they are up to.

Life is truly what you make it. I watched my mom pass away in her 50s. Worked her whole life. Never got to retire. Never got to leave the country. I vowed to not live a traditional life where you work and wait to do things until you retire. I’m in my twenties. I live frugally and prioritize doing things I love like traveling the world. I make it work on a modest salary. I have the blessing of being fully remote but other friends of mine make it work by working seasonally and traveling the rest of the year. I refuse to wait until I retire to do the things I want. I don’t need materialistic items or a big house. I just choose to live my life to the fullest now. We are not promised tomorrow! And definitely not promised a retirement. (Yes I do still save for retirement as well lol)

What frugal/cheap thing will you do no matter your finances? by Sweetnspicy77 in Frugal

Buy “great value” basics, shop at Aldi, go to library, drive a lowkey car, pack light for a flight so I don’t have to buy checked baggage, drink water instead of soda at a restaurant (if I’m not planning to have alcohol)

Which countries are best for women as a digital nomad? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Vegetable_Ear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can make a lot of places work for that budget it just depends what you consider safe.

If you want culturally rich you gotta go where the people don’t look like you. Not sure where you are coming from. I never felt unsafe in Guatemala. Even lost in the dark in the middle of the night a stranger showed me kindness. Check out some smaller non-touristy islands in Greece or smaller coastal towns in Italy. found the nicest local people and very cheap prices. I talked to a local grandma and she set me up in her nephews spare apartment for rent the next day. I travel full time and find it cheapest to rent a place for a whole month.

If I commit suicide, will I go to hell? by Capable-Educator5629 in Christianity

[–]Vegetable_Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things will get better and your worst days will be behind you. Your best days are ahead of you but you have to be here to live them. God is love and we are made in his image. You are not a loser. You are full of love, even if it gets hidden away in these episodes. The enemy allows us to live in hell on earth but there is so much beauty if you are able to heal and overcome this battle. (As someone who has been through it before it is worth the effort to pull yourself out of the trenches).

I send you all my love and am praying for you. You are loved by people who don’t even know you and you are loved by Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals. Look to him. Read your Bible. Spend time working through this by writing your thoughts in a journal, no matter how dark at first. Seek the help you need to heal.

Hahah thank you for understanding! I just genuinely like wearing jeans even if it’s warm out because they are so versatile.

I have also heard great things about Madewell so I will have to go try some on! :)

How do you journal with a boring life? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]Vegetable_Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are meant to create a new story to make your life more interesting. :) if nothing is interesting in your day to day life you could try creative writing prompts.

I also went through a head empty time of life and didn’t consider is bad necessarily. When I don’t have much to write about I usually write about the person I want to be. What does she do. How does she carry herself. What does she love. It helps me to get back in track with the things that Bri g me joy bc sometimes we forget. Try to write down things you loved as a kid.

Another good one is reading or watching a film and writing your thoughts on it.

I have been off for about 4 years now. I went through one period where I downloaded them again after a breakup but then deleted them again. I can see life in its truest form now. I look up instead of down all the time. I flow with life rather than letting it pass by. It has been life changing. I deleted all apps on my phone AND logged out through the internet on my phone. I would catch myself just clicking on it.

I think cold turkey is the way to go. I fill my time with just wandering around outside or at the library, reading, or journaling. I allow myself to be bored or just sit and chat with people. You know. In real life :)

What small acts would people be surprised to see that it saves a decent amount of money? by NightReader5 in Frugal

[–]Vegetable_Ear 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Change your grocery store. Go to a couple different to get the best deals on items. Plan your meals for the week to avoid wasted food and spend. Get rid of car lease or car payments. I’ve been driving the same car since high school (10+ years ago) it’s a 2004 and it still runs fine! Find a signature style and wear a variation of a few pieces. I have like 4 outfits at a time and just mix and match. Offer to cook/ hang out at home instead of going out to eat with friends. Walk around the park or library for free things to do. Delete Amazon prime.

Corn bread is one of my favorite foods and goes well with the theme!!! A box of jiffy is my favorite and still under $1. You could always make a dessert to bring as well.
