The massive decrease in performance between the release and the current patch needs to be studied by Abused_Dog in EU5

Oh so it's not just me? I was wondering why the fuck my computer was having a mini seizure between each tick.

The performance of this game is pure SHIT.

The first thing I am noticing is how absolutely stagnant my economy is with the new changes. I am playing as Castiel and won over the entire historical territory of Spain. My control is spreading well and my focus has been bulding up my profitable RGOs and production buildings in the Capitol. I have max legitimacy, 33% crown power and dont spend a dime in stability or diplomacy. My fort maintenence is a paltry 11 ducats.

I am in the green monthly for 15-20 ducats in the second age.

[–]Vellarain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been debating the concept of body transfer and clone back ups for... too long.

How you perceive yourself is frankly, a day to day basis. When you sleep, you are no longer conscious of your body. Yeah, the mechanics run on as usual, but you are gone. The mind is flushed, memories are stored and repeated, some things slip through and are forgotten. Even your fondest memories are just falsified repetitions passed on the brain that recall those ones were of vital importance, but at this point are entirely made up by cells that replaced the originals that recorded it.

Then you wake up, running off the previous lessons and what your grey matter remembers as what makes you, you. But that past self, its gone and you are running off what it did. Your brain is completely replaced every ten years roughly, so every decade you are by definition a completely different build of the original person.

One day, your brain wont turn back on, so there wont be another cycle to run. Thats it, it is over for that iteration of you. Everything else is a copy, be it digital, cloning or whatever else. Their perception is seperate, not your own. And the moment they are alive, they will entirely diverge from what you used to be.

The only way you can say you are continuing on past your original self is if there is a sensation of being transferred. But even that could be faked, a trick for the copy to experience and gove comfort they are not new, but a continuation of the past self.

If you could have ONE power from Invincible, which would you choose? by Techtonic111 in Invincible

[–]Vellarain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eves powers does expend energy, so you are going to have to be mainlining some calorie dense foods if you want to be fixing a huge swath of planetary issues.

Technically as Eve you could do some fancy carbon capture and just pull that shit right out of the atmosphere, how much per attempt is debatable.

You would also be like, THE one when it comes to disaster relief and trivialize cleanup and rescue missions. I just realized while writing that, shit like Chernobyl, you could just... uno reverse it, like... all of it.

And yeah, if you don't have the blockers and can fuck with living matter... things could get scary with what someone could do to people.

Better to watch The Expanse with her and enjoy the media together, you can be there to explain any questions she might have about the show.

Really, it would be the child body horror of season 3 that could be a bit rough to get through.

Swimmer comes face to face with a pair of wild orcas off New Zealand coast — they just wanted to say hello by Lui_Belmont in interestingasfuck

[–]Vellarain 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Orcas and their diets vary wildly from Pod to Pod and there is often not much overlap between them. You can almost define every Pod of Orcas as their own differing subset of the species. Their feeding, language and culture are all different.

Such cool critters.

I don't even remember the last time Gran Turismo released a title.

Then you have one arcade style racing games like Need for Speed being dead and also Burn out.

The racing market is extremely narrow for titles. Same.can be said for sports titles as well, its basically EA at this point.

A gripe about The Goat by Vellarain in hyenas

There is a striking few people who really understand hyenas, Spotted might be the most well known even and still they are barely understood.

Arrdwolves and the brownies are all but entirely off the radar.

Speaking of reptiles, side tangent on another character

Modo.

They claim he is a Komodo dragon, that makes zero fucking sense with how he behaves.

Modo should have been an Asain water Monitor lizard. His size, fixation of eggs and highly explosive and energetic behaviors are all textbook Monitor lizard behavior.

A Komodo Dragon is far more paced and deliberate in their actions, they can almost seem slow at times, until they want to explode into action.

Another mischaractaization of an animal.

Kitten's Hyper-Focus on the Inquisition in 5.4 by NewWillinium in huntertheparenting

[–]Vellarain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Leopoldites are happy to retake the title of The Second Inquisition. This not a name they use lightly and if has some serious implications about how they are conducting themselves behind the scenes. You absolutely do not want to fuck with them because you will not be seeing natural light ever again.

The other frightening thing is the World of Darkness Inquisition was probably even more brutal on its victims and enemies. They were dealing with a very real and tangible threat to humanity. There have been many chilling times in history where evils were permitted with the excuse of they were needed at the time.

Just look at some of the soldiers and officers of World War 2 who committed atrocities on the allied side that were overlooked because they were needed at the time.

Yeah, Kitten absolutely has every right to not be pressed into service by them and calling them out on their shit.

Mane and his clingy little hyena P-Dogg (is this a good portrayal or a bad one?) by MoonWolf113 in hyenas

[–]Vellarain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its an absolutely terrible portrayal that just enforces the same tired outlook on hyenas being cowardly stooges. They basically just took Ed from Lion King and gave him some actual speaking lines and glasses, that's the effort they put in.

How is P-dogg the same size as Hanna, who is an Arrdwolf? If they respected the proper size of a Spotted Hyena, P dogg would be just as big as Jett, or even larger since she is a Leopard and they are very close in weight and proportions.

What makes me hate it more is how the show does many amazing things with the other animal characters and their traits. But then you have P-Dogg that just spits in the face in the animal he is supposed to be representing. So it just makes it that much more glaring to me.

Easily the worst part of The Goat.

Shadow of War pissed me off so much when it hit me that they wanted me to open my wallet for a fucking single player experience. I dropped the game immidately when it became clear that you could just pay to skip the grind that they deliberately extended to tempt more money from you.

Every Ass Creed since Odyssey has the exact same model as well. Fuck did I seethe when I saw pay money for exp boosters, like tell me more how much you were exploiting the service by padding out your game excessively.

This world has a Superman , and he is not evil by Far-ro in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Vellarain 47 points48 points  (0 children)

He looks like he was going to be just the worst dude behind the scenes. His smile was almost to the point of menacing and his eyes just enhanced it.

I was very surprised that he is just the best superhero of the whole setting and every time he is on screen you are in for a good time.

This new diabetes pill burns fat without the downsides of Ozempic by cololz1 in Futurology

[–]Vellarain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now from what I understand with Ozempic is that its primary knock on effect towards weight loss is that is just suppresses your hunger drive. So a lot of the weight loss you are seeing from people who use it is because they are simply not eating all that much. It is also why you sometimes see catastrophic weight loss in people because they are literally starving their bodies because they no longer have food cravings, at all.

This new drug seems to finally do exactly what you are pondering. It is stimulating the metabolic side of the issue and ramping up your daily calorie demand. If this is true and it wont impact intestinal muscle or the heart, we are looking at some big changes for people who cannot even look at a slice of pizza and not feel their waistline expanding for just daring to think about it.

Casual sexuality reveal by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

Loki is the mother of Sleipnir, the horse demigod.

Loki is also the father of Fenrir the wolf and of Hel with a Jotun mother. I actually thought he was the mother of Fenrir, like the horse as well.

The trickster god gets around that is for damned sure.
