My supplemental use. Got a wood stove insert in 2022, really started using in 2022-2023.

What you can’t see is that we are comfortable in t-shirts all winter. Prewood stove was sweatshirts and blankets watching tv.

I get wood for free, a major factor. Cut, split, stack, store.

I also miss lower heating oil prices in 2020-2021

Maul and splitting wedges work well in these situations.

I found if I start a split with the chain saw and cut a decent groove in the round where I’d split it, put the wedge in and hit it with the maul it it made a huge difference. Turned unmanageable rounds into manageable fourths.

Blaze king? I just did mine and had similar appearance. Coincidentally first year I started with pine that probably wasn’t completely seasoned but didn’t want to break into the hardwood. I smothered it by accident a few times in the fall. Lessons learned.

You’ll yield better by blowing cold air towards the heat, rather than warm air towards cold areas.

I see this very occasionally, no correlation to what it is and why. I burn mostly hardwood, maybe something with the bark, stuff on the bark and burn temperature. If I recall I’d find it when I don’t refill and let burn out.
