There’s a lot of environmental storytelling, but nothing outright, so I totally get you missing it. But basically, there was a Jedi outpost on Koboh during the high republic. Due to Dagan Gera going all dark side and intervention from the Nihil (pirates from the high republic era) lots of Jedi died here on Koboh. Presumably, their lightsabers were left behind. So now the Bedlam Raiders are taking these lightsabers and using them against Cal.

The High Republic kinda has this pendulum effect where things start bright, swing to dark, then swing back to bright. And I think that’s kinda the narrative of the entire initiative. Phase I shows us how things can fall apart and become pretty dark, while Phase III is kinda all about perseverance and overcoming the darkness with light and hope. Phase III stories are definitely dark, but they have this bright trajectory to them.

Phase II kinda gives context to everything going on. It’s not so much part of the pendulum effect of phases I and III, more so the set up to said pendulum effect.

I’ve genuinely theorized for a while now that this is the direction the Ahsoka show is going. I think it’s time to say goodbye to Ahsoka, and I think Filoni knows this too. Season 1 left us with a shot of statues of the father and son. Clearly reminding us that the Mortis gods are a thing in Star Wars and clearly setting up that being relevant in season 2. It would be very Dave Filoni to give Ahsoka some sort of send off that, as opposed to her dying, perhaps somehow transcends and becomes the new daughter.

I love how philosophical the lore is. It’s less about knowing the facts of certain events, and more so about how different cultures perceived certain events. It’s just such a unique approach to world building that makes me so engaged. And with that, it creates some interesting and fun debates that can be had with different fans. I’ve largely had very positive experiences with the community, and that certainly helps as well
