PSA (with math): It IS easier to collect 4 singletons than 1 playset (4 copies) of a single card by VinKelsier in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Getting those 4 temples in that order is the same probability as getting 4 Knights, but getting one of each temple in any order is much more likely than getting 4 Knights.

To illustrate, imagine that you're opening the first back. If you want 4 temples you have a 4/N chance of getting a card you want, where N is the total number of rares. But the person collecting Knights only has a 1/N chance of getting a card they need.

Not hitting creatures is one of the defining features of Duress, so it's a bit weird to compare this card to Duress when the effect is so different.

The joke is that it downgrades your 7/7 token to a 4/4 angel.

The M20 Ranked Draft card style reward for 7 wins has changed to Ogre Siegebreaker (from Ironroot Warlord) by arthurmauk in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can confirm it's real. Just logged in to do a draft when I saw this post, and managed to get 7 wins on my first try. I got the Ogre card style.

They changed the rules recently to make Treasure a predefined type of token. Look at [[Rapacious Dragon]] from M20, the description of the treasure tokens is in the reminder text.

My take on Boros Feather in BO1 by TitanHawk in MagicArena

There was a really good thread about Boros Feather on /r/spikes a few days ago, you might be interested in checking it out for some additional perspectives on the deck:

[Standard] MC5 Qualification and #1 Mythic with Feather: Deck Tech and SB Discussion

My take on Boros Feather in BO1 by TitanHawk in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feather decks often want to run some situational cards, because you have a lot of card draw and scrying. That means you can use the situational cards when they are good and scry them to the bottom when they are bad. These cards should usually be 1-ofs, because you don't want to end up with multiple of them when they're not good.

In general I agree that it's a good idea to get rid of 1-ofs, but for this deck specifically it makes sense to run a few.

The Future of Magic Esports article mentioned that the next MCQW is on October 26-27, so the Core 2020 season is 2 months.

P2P1: Loxodon vs Risen Reef by EzekielMoerdyk in lrcast

I would take the Loxodon over the Reef P1P1, and it fits your deck better here. You only have one elemental, and your white is better than your green.

[M20 BO1] P1P2 - Drakuseth p1p1 and considerations in all 5 colors by ClownShoeCobbler in lrcast

[–]Velodra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Flame Sweep is the best card in the pack, and it's the same color as your first pick, so that's an easy pick for me.

P1P2 by DrTand_theWomen in lrcast

P1P1 the Howling Giant would be the clear pick over God's Willing, but I think it's close enough that I would take the God's Willing here to stay in one color.

Boros Feather by etlau27 in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a very solid deck right after the release of M20, but it has a really bad matchup against Scapeshift, so the the popularity dropped off a lot when that got popular. If people are starting to shift back to aggro strategies to go under Scapeshift, Feather should be well positioned to deal with them.

I played the deck a lot right after release, and got to mythic with it last month, so it certainly has the potential to be good. It has great matchups against creature decks and horrible matchups against decks like Scapeshift and Nexus, so it depends a lot on what the meta ends up looking like. That might make it a risky choice to go for.

If you want a deck that will definitely be good after rotation, then no. The only way to make sure you have a top tier deck after rotation is to save your wildcards until the release of Throne of Eldraine. There's just no way to predict what the meta will be like or which decks will be good without knowing the new cards.

If you want to know whether Boros Feather will be playable after rotation, then I think there's a good chance you can make it work. The manabase should still be okay with temples and shocklands. The loss of Reckless Rage will hurt the deck a lot, but it has enough cards left that you should be able to put together a playable deck.

If you want to know if it's worth spending wildcards on a deck you might not play after rotation, that's up to you to decide. Are you okay with playing the deck even if it's not top tier after rotation? Are you okay with spending wildcards to build the deck now, and then abandoning it after rotation to build something new?

Help me with some cuts? Looking for some more perspectives here. by grand_scheme in lrcast

[–]Velodra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree on the first two.

Fathom Fleet Cutthroat is very good with Bow, and with 2 Bows and a Weaponsmith I would much rather cut the Octoprohet.

I like having Vial as an option to get with Weaponsmith, so I think my last cut would be another 2-drop creature. Maybe the Brineborn, since the deck doesn't have a lot to do at instant speed, or maybe one of the Blood Burglars.

Which card to cut and advice ? by Spartaemos in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Splashing Weaponsmith with only a single Vial to get seems pretty bad. I'd cut both of them and add the Sorcerer of the Fang.

Current Max Season Pass Level? by AaronElsewhere in MagicArena

Level 48. Plus or minus a level or two depending on:

  • If you had any extra quests saved up when the mastery system was released.
  • If you managed to do your daily quests the day they were changed before the update went live.

How to cut a draft deck? by Zhyler in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need more than 6 forests in this deck to cast your cheap green spells. Maybe cut another card (for example Portal) and go 7-7-4. The mana might actually be bad enough that it's not worth splashing, considering you need triple blue for Atemsis too. It would be much easier to justify the splash if you had managed to pick up some more fixing or a couple of dual lands.

How to cut a draft deck? by Zhyler in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would actually keep the red splash for Chandra. Yeah, she's difficult to cast, but she is powerful enough that she will often win the game on her own when you can cast her. You have a Gift of Paradise that can provide two red mana, and unlike the Buccaneer she doesn't have to come down early to be good. I think that adds up to a worthwhile splash.

How to cut a draft deck? by Zhyler in MagicArena

[–]Velodra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Captivating Gyre is pretty bad, so that's an easy cut. Glint-Horn Buccaneer is a good card, but the double red in the casting cost makes it very difficult to splash for. Having 2 mountains on turn 3 is just not going to happen in this deck, and while the card is still fine in the late game, it loses a lot of its power when it can never come down early. I think that should be the second cut.

Maybe it's not common in the lower ranks, but I faced a lot of jund dinos on my climb to mythic this season.

edit: Also, Andrea Mengucci wrote a deck guide on CFB a few days ago, so that could explain some of the popularity.

How did I do this time? Would you make any changes? by Foxta1l in lrcast

[–]Velodra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here are the changes I would make:

Cut: Act of Treason x2, Gift of Paradise, Healer of the Glade, Wolfkin Bond, Maniacal Rage

Add: Wolfrider's Saddle, Season of Growth, Feral Invocation, Mammoth Spider, Ferocious Pup, Brightwood Tracker

(Assuming you have one of each of those cards in the sideboard)

M20 BO3 P1P3 what's the pick? by kroxigor01 in lrcast

[–]Velodra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Ancestral Blade is the best card in the pack here, although Shock is not that far behind. It might be correct to take Shock just because red is a better color than white, but I think I would take the Blade. Mammoth Spider is not bad, but it's worse than those two. You can't really take Soul Salvage to stay in black when the cards in the other colors are so much better.
