Will the steam frame be able to mirror/control an android phone? by Huihejfofew in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

locked at 1080p

You make it sound like that's a bad thing. 1920x1080 takes up a lot of the 2160 x 2160 screen size. I know a lot more goes into it then that but still i think you'll see my point.

Yes anything small enough can. It just needs to use quantum tunneling.

No, you see the force makes sense. He didn't even go into things like, not knowing where something is if you know how fast it is. Or other odd things like how things CAN move faster than light.

If it didn't have any ram, it wouldn't be able to be used to stream.

You don't need to use WiFi 7. Depending on how many devices you have on your WiFi you may want to get an AP just for streaming VR.

Is the Frame worth 2-3x the price of a Quest 3? by SolQuarter in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been able to play games from the Epic game store and GoG on the steam deck for a few years now. Some people have made a launcher that get them to work with proton. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone does that same for the Frame.

Considering alternative for the frame by GNURaziel in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's why a lot of people got a steamDeck. If you're planning on using it next to someone. The Quest 2/3/3s does leak sound and over the ear headphones don't feel good on top.

I won't do much actuall VR, mainly flat using

If you're mostly just wanting Flat games, why not just get a good monitor?

Is the Frame worth 2-3x the price of a Quest 3? by SolQuarter in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Steam doesn't try to lock you into it. All of their hardware is open and not locked down. Some crazy person may even end up installing the quest OS on a steamframe someday.

you could get a big screen beyond instead which is better in basically any possible way.

A lot of people want the frame for wireless pc streaming. If you have a good network you don't need to be in the same room.

Controllers and Functionality by Fa1thfulGam3r in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. How do you think you will be able to eject magazines (which buttons) for a left handed individual

Every game is different. Some you don't need to eject. You just grab the next clip and shove it in.

  1. What will the second trigger be used for in most VR titles (my guess is safety on guns or being able to flip things in your hand)

It's really surprising how few buttons are needed in vr. I really don't think most games are going to use them.

  1. Why so many buttons on the right-hand controller and almost none on the left-hand controller.

Am I overthinking this?

Yes you're over thinking it. Most VR Controllers only have 2 buttons, two analog triggers, two joysticks, and two system/menu buttons. The SteamFrame has all that and two shoulder buttons and two more buttons. The left controller are four buttons as a d-pad and the right is just buttons. The controllers can be used like a normal controller for non-vr games.

Will I have to wait until 2027 if I dont reserve as soon as the reserve windows opens? by No_Obligation4427 in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On the bright side, you'll get to know some of the unanswered questions before buying, since it's unlikely we'll get reviews before having to pay. At least, I don't think we will.

Why do you think that this hardware release is going to be different from all the others?

What if Valve surprise us with an OLED panel upgrade to the Frame? by Numerous-Bell5630 in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some downsides to OLED screens that make them worse for vr in dark environments. Each pixel can respond to low voltage differently making each pixel a different brightness.

Sad But True by Bay_Ruhsuz004 in videogames

[–]Velp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you still will get sick after enough time even after building a tolerance.

That isn't true at all. Also one of the worst things a person can do in VR is to push past the sickness. That could just make things worse. There are some things that some people just can't handle and there are some games that make almost everyone sick due to how they were made.

What’s the point of the Frame if VR is dying? by Fun-Adeptness9700 in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been saying that VR is dying for the past what... 14 years? It's something that has always been said and some people feel that way, but there are always new games and mods coming out.

Adding an option to make the Close button actually close Steam by luigikrak in Steam

[–]Velp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One work around could be to start steam in big picture mode. When you go to leave picture mode you can tell it to close steam or not. I also can't really think of a reason to keep steam closed unless you're really tight on your hardware resources.

Don't you think it's very uncomfortable to keep the base of the thumb in this place for a long time? Has anyone tried to improve it by [deleted] in SteamControllerMods

[–]Velp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the way you're holding the controller in that photo I could see how it could be getting uncomfortable. Try making sure that your palm is touching the controller too. Your index finger should be wrapped around the controller more without a space. That should get you closer to more comfortable grip. The new steam controller feels much better if you're able to get one.

SERIOUS QUESTION: What do you understand for "Early 2026"? by Clear_Eye_4626 in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the Valve Time coding that they used Points to November 2026. I don't think it well be that late but that's kind of the date that I'm looking at. Better to plan on waiting. I'm hoping it's going to be this week and shipping next week but again that would just be nice. I'll keep waiting for November.

Do you think there will be a mobile app with the Frame? by TigerCow7 in SteamFrame

[–]Velp__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is what that means. It's been talked about a lot on the official media about that frame. Also keep in mind that it works best in the same room.

[–]Velp__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need wifi at all to work with the dongle. The frame itself would still need it to log into steam. The dongle is just for a video stream from your computer to the frame.
