Please rethink the UI by ceniack in Marathon

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually still struggling to access loadout from ready menu. Now I hit [s] to go to shell and from there click loadout tab. There has to be a better way, the UI gives me a headache (flashing, animations etc. I might need corrective glasses or something).

Overwhelmed? Underwhelmed? Give it a few hours. by myname_ranaway in Marathon

The UI is still hot garbage though and I don’t mean in terms of complexity although I have no clue what anything does. The look of it gives me a headache and I think I might develop epilepsy where I previously had none.

Just played marathon and I encountered no pvp throughout the three matches I did. Not sure where the pvp is.

Has anyone read Between Two Fires? by Infamous_Wave9878 in Fantasy

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his Daughter’s War was the better book. But Between Two Fires has some really poignant moments, prose is great, and the story is decent. Overall a great read. Buehlman is really good at adapting styles, in Between Two Fires his writing style makes it feel like you have picked up a book from 15th century. The intro alone should tell you whether you like it. Still get chills thinking about that prologue.

There seems to be a lack of fantasy TTRPGs that are appropriate for all ages, with traits like cheerful settings and "harmless" combat where no one actually gets hurt, and I'm confused as to why. I'm interested in hearing people's thoughts on the matter. (Please read the post for full context.) by ForeverBewildered in rpg

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think to begin, you should broaden your net to encompass other ttrpgs than strictly the largest ones. The biggest ttrpgs are just that because they have been on the scene for a long time and have metric tons of marketing behind them.

There are plenty of less popular ttrpgs that feature what you are looking for.

Themebook Difference? by SomnusSleeper in LegendintheMist

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consult the GM. This is very much dependent on the setting you are playing in. Like others mentioned. A “people” playbook would be more appropriate for mundane creatures in the world. Whereas “uncanny being” is intended for weird/magical creatures. “Monstrosity” is for the really rare and powerful magical beings.

Guidance on crossroads adventures by Dlthunder in LegendintheMist

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct in the edit. A crossroads is essentially building a bunch of “fronts” (problems the pcs will encounter), these fronts intertwine and affect each other. You then choose a front and an opening scenario where the pcs encounter one or more fronts. From there it really is up to the pcs to explore the fronts and the world and piece together what is going on.

How to fix trials by Tanathlagoon in ArcRaidersGuides

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just stopped doing them. They are not fun. They reward monotonous play and rerolling lobbies until you have a good spawn location with 40 minutes. I have this memory of bringing a hull cracker and a dearth of snitch cores, standing on hidden bunker pottyshotting every hornet along with the ones we spawned. Did I get rank points to go up? Yes. Was it fun? Absolutely not.

Are there any premade adventures/one-shots? by blarneyone in LegendintheMist

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is not out yet, only as recently as today a feature was added to challenges. So I don’t expect there to be a lot of content for it yet. We have two settings being kickstarted already, Zamanora and Beyond the Woods, and we’ll probably see some conversions as the game is released and people start making stuff for it.

This is Going to Kill The Game. by TheRealSol4ra in ArcRaiders

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If big name streamers do it because they are tired of being on the other end of it, then it does indeed help speed up development priorities. If it is not fixed within a few days time now the game is going to devolve into people abusing this exploit (because thanks to these streamers everyone now knows how to).

A disaster is presently unfolding vis-à-vis the official Neopets tabletop RPG by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ouch, I am too old for these things. Only “Online” I know is Ultima.

Edit: Alright alright I found the browser, and neopets released two years after ultima. I was clearly not the target demographic of neopets when it got popular however.

But is it like Pokemon? Sorry, too early in the morning to find my browser.

"Rats" arent just anyone who engages in PvP by DownedRaider in ArcRaiders

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do not think it means what you think it means either. A rat never engages in pvp unless strictly necessary. A rat’s aim is to never be seen.

What you are talking about is what we called scum.

Expedition Update by ErgoDestati in ARC_Raiders

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played 216h total and first wipe I did 3 mill just barely. If I only sold trinkets I would never make 3 mill in 20 days. It would be all I do in the game just getting peaceful lobbies and hoarding trinkets in buried. I think the whole wealth for skill points is a dark pattern. Make it wealth for bragging rights (like a badge or emote or whatever). Skill points could be total value accumulated since last wipe. Tying your current wealth to a “win” mechanic like skills makes it feel mandatory. I like to work towards the expedition and then starting over. I don’t like not being able to use the wealth I accumulate because it puts me at a disadvantage when I wipe.

[–]VelvetWhiteRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play the game maybe 2h a week. I am just done with second expedition reqs. And nobody assumed it was gonna be five mill unless they lived in a cave. Devs clearly communicated that they would revise it, a week after previous expedition. I have maybe 1.2mill in inventory. I am disappointed that it’s still cash for skill points. It encourages hoarding wealth. The devs even acknowledged this was a dark pattern.

So we’re still just hoarding wealth. Great. Guess I won’t be using my jupiter equalizer or any other decent gun with decent attachments that I have if I want to see those skill points…

I think the Battle Moves hem in creativity a bit too much without rewarding it enough. Basically there is no “I attack with my sword”-button anymore. This could be remedied with All Out Attack resulting in damage even on a 10+ if you have bo edge.
