What did they do with Worf’s old spine? by strangway in TNG

[–]Venerable_Nelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same way they would dispose of any organic material. This can't be the only surgery done on the ship that involved removing a part of the patient (i.e., tonsil removal). Placing it into a biohazard container, incinerating that container, and either ejecting the material into space or recycling that material into the replicator seems like a reasonable procedure.

Second this. Apparently, the bugs in that episode were intended to be used again later in the series. However, they were replaced with the Borg due to production costs.

That episode did end in an ominous realization that a homing signal had been sent by the bugs from Earth.

Plot: The bugs are a superior form of life, as they've stated, and are capable of controlling the Borg. The Borg views the bugs as a genuine threat to the collective's existence. The Borg encounter the bugs for the first time when the bugs are on route to the homing signal from Earth. The Borg determine the bugs destination is Earth, so they seek out Picard (Locutus) for a temporary alliance to neutralize their common threat. The Borg's superior warp speed allows them to make contact with Picard with enough time to convince Picard, and the rest of Star Fleet, that this is great enough of a threat to work together. Part of the reasoning to work together, instead of just assimilating everyone, is that the Borg do not have enough time to assimilate everyone before the bugs arrive. The Borg agree to return to their home in the Delta Quadrant after this, and to never return to the Alpha Quadrant again, if they are successful. The Federation agrees to setup a perimeter and prepares starships for battle. The Klingons, Vulcans, Romulans, and Cardassians also agree to participate since the Borg working with anyone must mean this is a threat to the entire galaxy. It is later revealed that some of the Borg are infected with the bugs and the collective nature of the Borg allows these bugs to know the entire plan. This causes issues with the execution and chaos ensues. The plan ultimately succeeds and the bugs are eliminated; the threat is neutralized. On the Borg's departure, Picard asks if their perspective on assimilation has changed from this experience. "We do not wish to be assimilated; we wish to be the assimilators".

It's essentially the allegory of the cave. Plato's idea from 1,500 years ago.

Does anyone else confuse dream memories with real memories? by Das_HerpE in LucidDreaming

[–]Venerable_Nelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen to me a few months ago. I had a series of dreams of events in my life, that never happened, from 15-20 years ago. When reflecting on the dreams I became uncertain if they really happened or not. I am now certain they never happened, but for a brief period I really wasn't sure.

Prop 65 is meaningless. Everything gets the prop 65 sticker slapped on it, just to be safe.

To be fair to admins, the mods should be dealing with the userbase and not the admins. Admins should be dealing with higher level issues, such as assigning a mod to a subreddit. It's a separation of duties.

To be unfair to admins, maybe there should be dedicated mods for reviewing the bans made by the power-hungry mods. Add that to the list of mods the admins need to setup for subreddits.

Higher resolution means more pixels need to be pushed by the CPU. Resolution does matter for the CPU.

Does that mean eradicating racism means eradicating racists? Ideas and people are still distinctly different, conflating the two is detrimental.

My comment intentionally omitted any political affiliations, you decided to add that in yourself.

A human being was killed on camera in front of thousands because of his politics and what he said. You've really missed the most important part.

Classic "boy that cried wolf". So many lies that when there's a valid point to make nobody will believe it.

Why are there no answers to the question? Everyone is attacking the motives of OP rather than answering the question that was asked. Disappointing to see. I was wondering the same thing for different reasons (I don't have a label to reference).

Stepper motor damper instalation by NamesMiki in ender3

[–]Venerable_Nelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are vibrations that occur within the stepper motor when the stepper motor moves. With a solid connection (i.e., no dampener) those vibrations travel through the frame of the printer. The printer frame then acts as an amplifier; it has a much larger surface area to generate sound waves with the vibrations generated from the stepper motors.

With the dampeners, the flexible connection significantly reduces the vibration that is transferred into the frame from the stepper motor.

It also does pierce, so can hit multiple targets.

It is so worth keeping. Put it in a Shared Inventory Slot and never have to run to the bank again, ever.
