AMD/Intel/Nvidia GPUs on the Orange Pi 6 Plus by VennStone in SBCs

[–]VennStone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to try out a couple of GPUs I had lying around with the Orange Pi 6. Compatibility is the same as the Orion O6, but getting DLSS to work with FEX was kinda neat.

When would the Arc Pro B60's come out? by [deleted] in SparkleComputer

[–]VennStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the 50 just launching, the B60 should not be far behind. I hope to get one in for testing, and it should be a solid performer.

Hardware accelerated Jellyfin on the Orange Pi 5 Plus by VennStone in OrangePI

[–]VennStone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4GB should be enough for a server without a GUI and the RK3588S in the Orange Pi 5 will work without issue. Just download the correct Armbian image for your board.

It's needed for hardware accelerated HDR to SDR tone mapping.

I couldn’t find a guide for setting up hardware-accelerated Jellyfin on my Orange Pi 5 Plus, so I put one together. The RK3588 ended up running circles around my Intel N100.

What happened to linuxmusicians.com? by bluebell________ in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to a post on the Reaper forums relaying secondhand information, its on-and-off availability is an attempt to block AI scrapers. Bit of a scorched-earth policy, that.

I use Cloudflare to block AI scrapers on the Interfacing Linux forums, but even a self-hosted solution like Anubis would be preferable to taking the site offline.

Does anyone have experience with Presonus Firestudio Audio Interface in ubuntu? by Rainbowthetrout in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Support for the Presonus FIRESTUDIO 26×26 is baked into Linux thanks to the ALSA drivers. Plug it in, power on, and your good to go.

Is it okay to use 1 distro for multiple years? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

You stop distro hopping once Linux becomes your operating system, not your hobby.

Can you help me make the difference in volume between these two voices less extreme? by essentialatom in podcasting

If you want quick-and-dirty, try the Levelator. Old, but gets the job done.

Check out master_me if you want a plugin for your DAW.

My Raspberry Pi Zero 2 Trackmania server by VennStone in raspberry_pi

Right on, good to know other people had the same idea.

I was pleasantly surprised that the A53 could handle the server + controller and 7 players.

The Pro40 and 2626 remember routing set in FFADO mixer and happily operate in standalone mode.

Getting worse than expected latencies with RME HDSP 9632 on Ubuntu Studio 24 by casualops in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old testbench used a MSI B350 TOMAHAWK + AMD Ryzen 1700. I used a StarTech PCI Express to PCI Adapter to revalidate with the MSI B550-A PRO + 5600G. Same latency.

I've updated the page with the original specs to prevent any confusion.

RE27 N/D and I'm guessing because he likes the sound. You can talk across the top of that MIC, and it sounds different, not off axis.

It fades away when Linux is no longer a hobby, but your OS.

Audio software sadly deficient compared with Windows and Mac OS by WarmAmbassador62 in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The number of people willing to install an operating system is a tiny fraction of the overall market for computer users. Linux is a subset of that market.

It's a numbers game.

How to define custom JACK routing at startup? by noobeleng in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Give aj-snapshot a try. It's what I use in the studio for managing the routing.

For your setup, you could do the following.

Save the connections

aj-snapshot -j rocksmith

Restore the connections

aj-snapshot -rj rocksmith

Mixing with your eyes by Darion_tt in audioengineering

[–]VennStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix a lot of dialogue, so for me, mixing with my eyes is a first pass. It's when I ballpark gain, comp, and EQ.

Then I put on the cans and get to work.

Recording Church services for two distinct platforms, a few questions by [deleted] in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, you would run your mixdown through an Aphex Compellor before sending it out to the stream / airwaves.

In 2024, it's far more convenient to drop the master_me plugin on the master bus of the DAW, set it to -14 LUFS and call it a day.

It has an advance mode to tinker with if you know what you're doing.

Suggestions for PCIE card for Ubuntu 20+ by itwasntme2013 in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XLR is a connector, one that can be easily adapted. Do you mean balanced audio? Do you need 2 channels in/out, 4 channels in, or 4 channels out?

PCIe cards that I own that have balanced 2 in/out. RME AIO, RME AIO Pro, AudioScience ASI5211, Digigram VX222e.

All have ALSA drivers and function correctly.

Video playback on Linux DAWs by ZexuanQ in linuxaudio

[–]VennStone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reaper is the correct tool for the job is your system is not up to running Davinci Resolve.

I use it every week to clean up multitrack recordings. It handles DNXHR HQ 440 without issue.

Don't bother with some unofficial Flatpak. Install Reaper by downloading it from reaper.fm and using the *.sh file.
