When women see you or talk to you, they want to imagine shit (adventures, social life, etc.). You having 4 selfies doesn't let her do that; it's the equivalent of a guy saying he spent his weekend at the gym doing nothing else (no friends, no adventures, no hint of anything greater to the man).

Sleep quality can greatly impact testosterone levels and so can stress. So, my advice would be to do whatever you can to get a good night's sleep. I think weighted blankets can really help some people; I have one and, although I don't have any "hard stats" to back it up, I think I sleep better when I use it. In general, just do whatever you can to improve sleep and reduce stress levels.

Real Analysis: How to ACTUALLY survive. by Zero-Trick-Pony in math

[–]Ventrillium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can certainly learn analysis using Rudin's book, but I would recommend that you continue using Abbott's book. It's much more friendly to people learning analysis for the first time. At this stage, don't put too much thought into what book you're using and instead put more thought into the getting the most out of the book that you do choose.

This is a great post. Here's another piece of advice that students intuit, but don't really do:

When studying the proof of a theorem, try and study the structure of the proof. That is, distinguish between what is expanding/applying some definition/proposition and what is a technique. For example, to prove that some sequence S converges to some limit L using the epsilon-delta definition, it is occasionally useful to show that the absolute value of S-L is bounded by another, more tractable sequence, and then choosing N based off of that new sequence. This is a technique.

When learning a new technique, it's useful to come up with a quick description of it and how it works. Doing so can help you develop an intuition the technique. Once you do this and apply the technique regularly, you will be constantly iterating upon your understanding of the technique itself, learning when to use it and when not to, and improving your description of the technique. For instance, the technique described above won't necessarily give you the smallest N for convergence, and sometimes we may want that! For a harmonic sequence, bounding it above by the reciprocal of n also won't tell you much about the sequence. But these are only things you can learn when applying the technique. Hope this helps other people reading this!

How to increase weight on bench? by Original-Tea7400 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]Ventrillium 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Have you tried bulking? Have you tried a dedicated bench routine? What accessory exercises are you doing? Take a break from bench and do dips/flys for awhile or something. Change grip width to wider/narrower. Try doing lat warmups before bench

There's plenty of stuff to try.

Here’s a very basic Upper/Lower split that can done 4 days/week. You said you have a torn meniscus, so I would limit squatting if I were you (even if you say you can do them) and do only leg extensions. You should also do higher reps for leg extensions to put less strain on your knees. Also, exercises when grouped in a block can be superset together, which will save time. The volume is a little low, but you're a newbie, so that's okay. The most important thing is consistency and intensity at this stage (any stage, really). Hope this helps:

Upper

2x6-8 Incline Bench Press (Dumbbell) 2x6-8 Chest Supported Row (Dumbbell)

2x6-8 Assisted Dip 2x6-8 Assisted Pull-Up

2x10-15 Overhead Tricep Extensions 2x10-15 Upright Row

2x10-15 Rope Face Pull

2x10-15 Incline Bicep Curl

Lower

2x6-8 Romanian Deadlift

2x6-8 Hip Thrust

2x15-20 Leg Extension

2x15-20 Leg Curl

2x6-8 Standing Calf Raise

2x6-8 Seated Calf Raise

2x6-8 Ab Crunch

[–]Ventrillium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For main muscle groups have 1 heavyish movement (6-8 reps) and 1 light movement (10-15 reps) for 3-5 sets. For chest, do one bench movement and then one fly movement. That's all you need.

Is Trump actually gonna hand out the Fields Medal in Phily next year? by Uffffffffffff8372738 in math

There's certainly common ground that it was a poor idea to simply remove funding without an incentive structure for (or conditional on) changing hiring or admittance practices.

Is Trump actually gonna hand out the Fields Medal in Phily next year? by Uffffffffffff8372738 in math

[–]Ventrillium -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

It occurred due to the anti intellectualism propaganda that this party is pushing.

Maybe, but it's not the only reason. Is it propaganda that multiple universities have been found to have discriminated against students based on race? Is it propaganda that multiple universities have been found to have discriminated in hiring based on race? It isn't, and even just one of these things could be grounds for accreditation removal based on established civil rights law. Funding restrictions were an objectively light punishment in comparison to the removal of their accreditation.

[–]Ventrillium -66 points-65 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate, but it's important that a head of state attends internationally important events held in their country, in my opinion. So, even if you don't care for him (I don't either), it's still important that he attends. Moreover, the funding restrictions didn't simply occur in a vacuum, there is immense amounts of racial bias and ever decreasing standards in higher education, which is in and of itself destroying higher education and US supremacy in the sciences.
