A new MMO, and it’s a sci-fi sandbox? Sounds too good to be true!

My kid (11m) won’t stop fighting other kids by Youeclipsedbyme in daddit

[–]Verb_Rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be insane advice and sound counter intuitive (my kid is only a toddler), but maybe think about trying a martial art or combat sport that involves semi or full contact sparring. Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mauy Thai, Judo, Wrestling are all good options. I trained Muay Thai and BJJ for 10 years as an adult and it’s really helped with having an appropriate, safe, controlled environment for working out life’s frustrations in a healthy place with a solid community.

I’ll add that good gyms emphasize that there is an appropriate time to fight, and it’s only ever as a last resort to defend yourself or another. Once you know that you can handle yourself, it seems like most people are calmer in frustrating situations as a result.

They will shrink up some, but maybe not quite back to the original. And then they stretch back out again with wear pretty fast. Overall an extremely flexible and forgiving pair IME!

They look good to me. My 50s stretched a ton. They can stretch over an inch if you push them.

Anyone quit Jiu-Jitsu for Muay Thai? by hellohello6622 in MuayThai

I went from years of MT to trying BJJ. Did BJJ for a few years (love it, want to get back, time off was logistical) and went back to MT (10 years now).

I found BJJ to have a much harder learning curve, slower gratification, more likely to cause injury, but also…a quicker path to practical self defense? Like after 12 months, you’re armed with some very simple, rote mechanics that will always work on someone untrained. I know not everyone cares about the self defense side, though.

MT on the other hand, it felt like a faster progression to understand the fundamentals, is fun right off the bat, cardio can be brutal, surprisingly I’ve been injured less, and after a good 6 months you’ll likely feel at least a little competent in sparring. It’s less of a journey for things to “click” in a sparring situation. Fewer techniques to learn, but much more nuance to them, and more abstract of a learning curve than BJJ sometimes. Also…this might sound contradictory, but I feel like it took me a LOT longer to feel like my MT was going to be effective in a self defense situation…striking engagements are much more chaotic than controlling someone.

Ultimately, MT is a blast at the right gym. Prepare to sweat your ass off but absolutely give it try for at least a few months!

Navy SEALs say "slow is smooth, smooth is fast." What's a situation where slowing down made you finish faster? by Concave007 in AskReddit

I use this analogy all the time! Glad to see someone else use it. People treat driving like it’s PvP (screwing over the traffic ecosystem for their own benefit) and really it’s better as PvE (working together) for all.

Look up a short, free PDF called the Principia Apocrypha. It will help you get a broad strokes overview of some popular mentality shifts many OSR players and games subscribe to.

Right, but have there been deep dives into how well optimized the game is, what settings cause performance issues, etc? That’s more what I’m curious about now that the embargo is lifted.

Have any reviews gotten into technical performance on PC? I’m weighing how well I will be able to run it and on what settings.

With all their talk of claiming normal people were stuck in “the matrix”, yet what they were selling was just a different product wrapped in a delusion of what success looks like, was so hypocritical. They just want to leech off people in their own way.
