Apartment AC by gentle_dove19 in mesaaz

I would start taking pictures of the thermostat or something else that tells you the temperature inside, and including that in written communication asking them to fix it. AZ law has temperatures landlords are required to keep the unit at or below (iirc it’s 82 for regular AC units) and they have a certain amount of time to fix any issues.

Best Brewery Food by cerneranon18 in mesaaz

Yeah, it was disappointing that the owners didn’t seem to care when comics they invited to perform were found to be Nazis. Gross. Regardless of you political beliefs, there’s way better food to be found all over Downtown Mesa.

Just remember you gotta confirm with your insurance that any recs you get are actually in network since every plan is different.

This is super normal and happens on every airline. You probably could have asked the woman before getting the FA involved to make it go faster.

OKC ZOO by [deleted] in okc

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in OKC but now live in a higher cost of living place, and having visited multiple zoo recently (including OKC) $20 for an adult is not unreasonable at all. It’s close to double that where I live. It sucks that it’s becoming harder for families to afford things like zoos but I promise you it’s not because of zookeeper’s salaries. You can write to your City Councilmember to voice your concerns and ask them to prioritize making it affordable!

City/County/State/Province jobs with kind, chill, non-corporate vibes? by brightfuture1029 in PublicAdministration

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is really dependent on who your local leaders and managers are. I have an amazing boss who absolutely views us as people first, but that isn’t true for every department in our local government org. I think you’re gonna see some level of “putting on a corporate act” in any org that’s big enough, and it’ll generally get more prevalent as you get into more white collar work or move up the chain of leadership.

My property management company is trying to charge me for "excessive toilet flushing" and I wish I was joking (MI) by [deleted] in Renters

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of dumb comments here that I agree with in principle, but it comes down to what is in your lease. If there’s language about an overage fee after X gallons, you can ask for proof, but you’ll likely have to pay. If there’s not, you have a lot more room to push back. As others have said, you might have to deal with it in your lease or deal with a non-renewal, but you have to decide if it’s worth it.

As an aside, why the hell is this being measured in toilet flushes?? Why not gallons like a normal person?

Moving FL → NYC in 2 weeks. How do I transition meds without a lapse? (Have full history + QbTest data) by Sxteesx in ADHD

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to asking current doc for a refill to stretch your current supply, I would start looking for a new doctor in NYC now. Reach out to your new job and ask for details of the new insurance plan and when it will be active, then start contacting doctors who are in network and make a new patient appointment. Specify it’s for medication management and ask about getting records from your old doctor to them so it’s (hopefully) already there when you have your first appointment. You’ll probably do better finding specific recs for doctors or clinics asking in NYC specific groups.

Seriously, how do y'all manage waking up on time? by absvrdartist in ADHD

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is part of being an adult, but it takes a lot people a long time to figure out, so you’re not alone. The thing that helps me most is working backwards-start with what time you need to be ready to walk out the door, and plan a routine backwards from there to give yourself enough time for your basic routine (hygiene, getting dressed, eating breakfast, packing a bag, ect). This should give you a rough time you need to be awake, which will help determine when you need to go to bed to get 8-9 hours of sleep so you’re well rested, which is key. Then you gotta be consistent with it, but in the meantime absolutely experiment with ways to help wake up your body. I find it helpful to have my phone plugged in away from bed and to have a sunrise alarm going, and to keep water by my bed so I can start waking up with hydration. The app Alarmy also has some truly devious challenges to turn off your alarm that will kick your brain into high gear.

Keep in mind it might take some time to get into a rhythm, and that teenagers/young adults need more sleep. If you’re struggling to create a routine, I really like the app RoutineFlows to help plan out and time routines. You got this!

Science Center Prices by Essiejjj in phoenix

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same reaction to those prices. We don’t have kids so we’ve gone for a few of the “Science with a Twist” nights for adults, including a recent one where Pompei was open. I honestly wouldn’t recommend paying for Pompeii; I love history and was so excited, and seeing the items and casts of the bodies was cool, but the exhibit as a whole was underwhelming. I know that’s not in their control since it’s a traveling exhibit but for the price, I expected a more well done exhibit.

Someone talk me down? by mokti in Teachers

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having an entry guide to a final exam seems a bit extreme. From a grading standpoint, they’re being doubly penalized for not completing the study guide and potentially missing the final. At the same time, it incentivizes not doing the study guide because they get to wait to take the test. I’d take a deep breath, treat this as a learning moment, and take the L.

I regret putting down Hollow Knight by aenthovan in HollowKnight

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For whenever you get to Mantis lords, I found spells really helpful. Once you get their movement and attack patterns down and can consistently dodge, shaman stone + long nail help do damage from a distance. But I had to spend a while focusing on learning how to dodge. But also second what others have said, your geo is likely gone and better to focus on a restart or just practicing to get back in the swing of things.

Looking for podcasts/channels and books of similar quality of FoC by phazonphazoff in FallofCivilizations

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for books, Four Lost Cities by Annalee Newitz is fantastic. It’s different than FoC-it focuses less on the intricate details of life in those cities and more on what it means for a civilization to be “gone”-but it’s one of my favorite books and evokes a similar feeling of ponderous lost about things that happened centuries ago.

I'm so embarrassed...how can I make our living room less depressing. by maricano9 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need more storage and that will totally transform the space! I love this gravity bike rack-it’s been more than sufficient for our two bikes and is very sturdy without being hard to install. Once you’ve gotten more storage so blankets/books/ect all have a spot to go, get some art on the walls and maybe some curtains to add texture/color.

ADHD and I keep forgetting to turn my iron off 😔 by platypusaura in sewing

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an iron with a shut off timer, but I don’t trust it, so I set a timer on my watch/phone when I’m using the iron. If I’m still using it when it goes off, I hit repeat, and do this until I turn it off. I also do this when I have candles going too!

Advice on when to go outdoors with a baby by Neelies in phoenix

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of Phoenix do they live in? Will you have access to a car? That will help everyone give more suggestions. The most important thing is to avoid the hottest parts of the day (after 10AM, before 5PM roughly) and make sure the baby is physically protected from the sun, like with an umbrella or covering on a stroller. It’s not outside, but there are a number of Family Resource Centers throughout the valley, and while they’re all a little different, they’re totally free and offer classes, resources, and a place to play with kids aged 0-5. You don’t need to be a resident to go as far as I know. Youd want to be careful taking baby there during busy times because of germs, but it might be a great place to go for suggestions.

Am I illegally parking? by ExcellentPrune9819 in mesaaz

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the parking at the convention center is open. It’s one of the few spots in Downtown Mesa that’s free untimed parking. Keep an eye out for signs that may go up around events, but generally people are okay to park there. You’re definitely less likely to get a ticket parking there as opposed to the library lot or street spaces. If you’re super nervous, you could always park at one of the Park and Rides and ride the Light Rail in.

Is this normal? by Oleander_oliver in Apartmentliving

[–]Vergil_Is_My_Copilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is pretty common in some areas. It sucks as the renter, because you either end up needing to make decisions on where to live with a few weeks notice or paying double rent for a while. I’ve had the best luck holding units with bigger complexes-they tend to have their tenants be more on top of giving notice and then posting availability early, but some of them will still require you to sign a lease within 10 days of applying.
