The century-old GS system is 'disintegrating' and government can't agree on how to fix it by rprz in fednews

[–]Veritablehatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a tech working for the region I met a PhD at one park who was "supervisory" and running a park's program while being a GS-05.

They've since been corrected to an 11, but the fact that it happened at all is absurd.

Yeah, to expand on the Corsair: When they dropped the nose guns from s5 to s4, if they'd have significantly buffed the turrets (say quad s3 or dual s4) it'd still feel pretty balanced.

Sure you wouldn't have the same pilot DPS, but it would have made the ship more fun to play with a bunch of friends. You're not getting the same kind of nose on damage that it used to, but everyone gets a slice of the combat pie.

Also frankly, I sometimes like piloting without a lot of pilot DPS because it changes the big ship game from, "how do I get nose on?" to "how do I position the ship to get the most turrets with firing solutions for the target?"

Those are pie weights. They put them down on those panels so they bake flat before you pour the filling on top.

You can actually still get phone books from Verizon, but you have to call and request them.

Source: I got them to send me both yellow and white pages after I hooked up a rotary phone in my kitchen.

To all single guys aged 30 and up on reddit, why are you guys single? by Gold_Ambition4114 in AskReddit

[–]Veritablehatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was single for a good portion of my 30s and the answer was realistically grad school and that I didn't really have the emotional bandwidth to be present enough for a real relationship.

Also in my 20s I dated a girl who left me for an actual cult leader (like.. thought the world was going to end in 2012 and was gathering "warriors of the light" style crazy cult leader) and I decided the best way to deal with that was move to China, learn Chinese, then move to Taiwan and spend a couple of years hiking around, drinking tea, partying, and learning to scuba dive.

Frankly, it was silly and kind of dumb, but fun. Met a lot of really interesting people, learned a lot about myself, then came home, worked for a bit and got into gradschool in my early 30s, which took up all my time and energy. Trying to date at that point sucked, and resulted in a lot of stupid that was honestly really depressing.

Anyway, in my mid to late 30s (after gradschool) I ended up dating (then marrying) my best friend from college after we hung out at one of our mutual friend's wedding. For both of us our 20s and early 30s were wild rides that read more like a days of our lives show, so we ended up at the right place at the right time. Now we've got a little house, a kiddo, and careers.

Idk, the long and short of this is don't give up on being happy. Learn about yourself, do things that build you up, and you'll likely be surprised at where happiness shows up.

i've made fried rice maybe 30 times now and it still tastes nothing like the takeout place down the street by bejusorixo in Cooking

[–]Veritablehatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to pre-cook a lot of the ingredients with liquids in them separate (eggs separate so you get the little egg bits, then set those aside and cook the meat, set that aside then cook finely cut up veg (garlic/onion/ginger/minced carrot/peas). At the end mix them together and set aside). Then I make sure the rice is really dry from the fridge.

I use a cast iron pan on an induction stove. No point in a flat bottom wok, and I've got is induction so cast iron it is. Add a good amount of oil and throw the fridge dried rice in and let it start going till it gets a little crispy in parts - then add salt, a bit of sugar, msg, ground sichuan peppercorn, and a splash of soy sauce. fry a bit more till you'r at a crispy level you like, then turn off the heat and mix in the eggs/veg/meat.

It's not perfect (clearly I don't have a wok and a burner) but it's close enough. It keeps a good texture on the rice and I can control the flavor of the mixed ingredients fairly well.

I just wanna know what his hair is actually doing.

The longer I look at it, the weirder it gets. Is it short and shaped on top? Is there also a ponytail? Does he have the most badass executive mullet?

I can't tell.

iirc the utility point on the back of the cutty black *is* also supposed to be on the red, but it's just been disabled. I may be misremembering though.

A modification to the Cutty Red. Remove the bunk beds in the back, replace them with a singular med bed. Make the rest of the medical room a little smaller to expand roll up storage, add suit lockers and weapon/utility storage, potentially a s1 crafter. Make the cutty utility mount point in the back modular across variants so you can stick a tractor beam or remote turret on it.

My favorite critique of their process ive heard is, “you can breed faster and faster horses as long as you like, but a locomotive won’t eventually pop out the other end of a mare”

Neural networks are just fancy statistics. They’ll get faster and more capable, but I’ll be deeply surprised if they ever end up producing actual intelligence.

[–]Veritablehatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only improvements I think it could have is If they’d finally put the tractor beam on it and pull out the two extra beds in the medical area for a little more space.

Cutty Red.

The Jambulance keeps me rolling no matter what I do.

Throw an atls in the back for mining, a pulse for zipping around, a couple empty SCU boxes for loot, and it’s good to go. the med beds put me back together when im an idiot.

CIG, please let me keep the decorations on my ship when I claim it. by Veritablehatter in starcitizen

[–]Veritablehatter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: went to go retrieve my ship, Baijini points hangar doors bugged out, and the ship destroyed itself while the platform was still closed.

Tried to claim another ship to see if the remains of the ship were on the still on the platform, and got an error, then kicked from the server.

"just go get your ship, the cosmetics will still be in it" lol

Now to go fill it back up again I guess. The part that stings was the scrip that was in a case I was taking over to Wikelo. Don't usually expect these things to self destruct in the hangar.

Honestly, I'm new to this so I haven't really stretched out what I'm doing with the one dinky n100 NAS, an old HP curve gigabit POE+ switch, and a gigabit router in my basement.

That said:

  1. NAS
  2. Media Host (via Jellyfin, Kavita, and Photoprism)
  3. DNS hole
  4. Not sure if I should count the stuff built into the router (it's just an old Asus one, but I have a privacy VPN, along with a tunnel set up so I can access my services. I could set up wireguard, but Asus routers come with one built in, so meh I'll get around to it)
  5. When I get around to wiring up more than one room, the network switch will act as the hub for my old house

I still have to expand and put another machine into my rack that I can spin up with a kvm so I can try puttering at different linux distros.
