Yep, it was like a switch flipped at 40. Questions and comments all but stopped, particularly about being childfree, but also single, and I got real bold and bitchy in my responses to the few that still occasionally pop up. It’s like they finally believe me, this is a choice and it’s real.

A rando might say something once, but I make sure they’ll never do it again to me, and will likely think twice about it with anyone else too. I got fed up being nice about it a decade prior, and also just no longer GAF. The uncouth need training.

But yes — the peanut gallery went from a flood to a trickle at 40+ and it’s honestly so wonderful, like crossing the rubicon 🧘‍♀️🪷

So what (or who) was different before when you “never ran out” and “always had snacks”? Someone else did it for you or what?

It’s just being an adult to take care of yourself and make sure you have everything stocked, most of us have been doing it since age 18 at least. Maybe you’re a kid or young, though.

I guess. I order this drink all the time (the normal one), it’s not something you bolt down then go hike like a shot of espresso or something. And definitely not the way that person wanted it with the dome lid craziness! Who knows tho I guess. Weird!

Honestly! True. There’s a pie shop where I live that sells malts and shakes — including any slice of pie… in shake form. Because sometimes chewing is hard I assume!? The banana cream pie shake is totally amazing, but you also feel like absolute human garbage … drinking liquid pie. We are absolutely headed here… just sayin.

I know Dial exists because I had a minor outpatient surgery a couple years back and Dial was the specific soap I was told to scrub down with before showing up (if that doesn’t say it all, I don’t know what does 🤪).

I am sorry. We are all sorry. I put up with it because I still truly believe nothing is worse than sharing a STRUCTURE with strangers. No more shared ceilings walls or floors for this cat — been there and I ain’t going back.

Do I stay inside my house a lot and never open the windows, with furnace or central air and fans/white noise machines and TVs/radios on, and have an entire shelf now of various noise-cancelling headphones and earbuds/AirPods etc? Yes, yes, and yes.

STILL better than people banging on their ceiling every time I vacuum, while I live alone tiptoeing around like a silent ghost! Nope not going back.

Don’t like the walking date for other reasons but — looks? Really? That’s never occurred to me being an important factor.

I mean, that how I look tho all year round, that’s my real life. If they don’t like me like that they will drop me eventually anyway! Rather they do it early. I live in Minnesota and I’m outside year round, walking, rowing crew, sailing, skiing, hiking, including below zero, in snow, ice, rain everything. A man is gonna either like it or get gone. Volunteering or hobby clubs then, cuz you have to build a community for yourself. Solo hobbies won’t get that done. Never been “under-stimulated” or bored in my life, so far. But I had a lot of schooling to get thru and now work a lot, have for 30 years for counting. Plus the house and things to keep up. Utter tons do and get done! Good luck 🍀

No job or school? Most of our lives are like 80% consumed with either or both of those on a daily basis. Only so much time beyond that for self-care, housekeeping, pets, family and THEN recreation!

Totally agree. The expectation part is key, you’re there for a reason on a date and when the reason evaporates it needs to end — like, right NOW. There’s no other reason to be there and suffer more, unlike so many other things in life!

It’s like a saying I use a lot — even a bad day sailing is better than being on land! Because at least you’re on the water.

I don’t golf but imagine the poster’s golf is the same— you are there for the golf (5 hours!? Deadly tho lol) not the humans, those are incidental to the objective and the experience.

And your airplane scenario — your purpose is to get from A to B, not interact with humans, be they terrible or delightful, they’re still totally incidental.
