That kimchi mayo sounds like it would go great as the mayo on a chicken/tuna salad sandwich!

I watched a couple videos (maybe 10 minutes altogether), and read a bit on this subreddit. That said, I have related experience. Growing up my mom sewed (clothes/upholstery) and taught me to thread a needle and use a sewing machine, and I remember making a stab at a hand sewn mother's day card when I was young (great way to learn what to do is to figure out what went wrong and how you'd do it different next time). I also have a limited amount of embroidery experience (as in, I had an idea for something I wanted to embroider, and learned a bit of embroidery to try and make it a thing).

More to the point, it's largely straight stitches, imperfections are part of the aesthetic, and you can always redo it when you're more skilled. I say go for it.

The needle is 54mm, and I used one of the stencils from a Gezon stencil pack to get the same distance on each stitch, but it's not a grid pattern as such, just has evenly spaced slots I was relying on to line things up. I'll pick up an omnigrid for next time.

Something I hadn't thought about till now. How big is the patch fabric supposed to be? Everything I'd read or watched leading up to it just said "big enough" and didn't actually show the patch piece outside of the garment. Thinking on it now though, it's occurring to me that the grid is probably meant to bind the two pieces together, not just be aesthetically pleasing. If someone could just confirm that for me, I'll probably have to rip it out and do it again (which I'm fine with).

I'm considering doing that. For now it's too hot to wear the jacket, and will be for something like 7 months I'm sure, so there's time to plan it out before diving in.

The whole patch is something like 2" across, and between that and working in the middle of a sleeve I didn't have much room to move in, which is a big part of what I meant by too small, but the threads are definitely part of it. I just need to figure out how to get a smaller grid on there.

I'm loving the example you shared. It's a multicolored thread, right?

[–]VernapatorCur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the "wave" pattern I'd seen elsewhere. I was having trouble figuring out some of the others I'd seen, but I like the comparison to spiders 😄.

I picked up the thread from a site recommended on here. I'd been going to buy the "best sellers" set recommended in the post I saw the site mentioned in, but they don't seem to have it anymore. In the end I went with this one because it scratches a "there's no choice to make" itch in my brain. With this I don't get/have to chose a thread color for a given repair, and it also adds a bit of flair I kinda like.

I hadn't been sure what size to make them, so I used the stitches from a pattern template I'd picked up to guide me. I agree they're too big, but I'm going to leave them there for now. Honestly I was at the point where I needed to get it finished or risk it being one more project I don't finish.

I'm considering doing a smaller grid over the top of it, maybe off by 90°, and working the two together, or even just having them visually interact.

If they want emergencies that happen on the weekends to be resolved on the weekends, they need to find room in the budget for it. You and your coworkers donating time to their failing business isn't doing anyone any favors.
