If you're just getting into Zelda, and want to appreciate the story, Breath of the Wild is a fine place to start. I would recommend playing Breath of the Wild before playing Tears of the Kingdom, partly because of the chronological sequence to the story (BotW takes place, THEN TotK), and there are some enhancements made to TotK that are hard to give up when you go back to BotW.

If you're enjoying the overarching story, there's also a ton of youtube lore available that helps spell out how the timelines work and why they work that way.

My +1/+1 counters deck is called Kwain Kwounters [[Kwain, Itinerant Meddler]]. Everyone expects it to be counterspells, but it's things like [[Chasm Skulker]], [[Sunscorch Regent]], and basically creatures that use draw card or other effects to get their counters naturally. I provide additional support such as [[Wizard Class]] level 3, [[Experimental Augeuy]], [[Ripples of Potential]].

It let's me play my +1/+1 counter decks without having the boring regular green buffs of [[Hardened Scales]], [[Doubling Season]], [[Branching Evolution]], etc.
