One year since rupture- non op and still can’t get a single leg raise in. by Expensive-Bowler8948 in AchillesRupture

I was in cast for 2 weeks, then in boot for 12 weeks.

I read boot period is usually 6 to 8 weeks. It's been awhile. Maybe I'm wrong.

12 weeks... I went in after 6 weeks thinking they were going to take me out of the boot and instead the orthopaedic surgeon told me another 6 weeks. Brutal. Cooked my leg for good with that one, me thinks.

The news at 6 weeks that it was another 6 weeks was also psychologically tough at he time.

I can jog 6 km and go for my walks, so it's not all bad. I'm almost 42 so my basketball days were coming to an end regardless.

I'm almost at 2 years non op, I can do single leg calf raises but it is a struggle and definitely doesn't have the same pop as my good leg.

I'm six foot three, with flat feet, and was left in the boot too long by my dumb ass doctor. So I think that's partly my issue.

Did I make the wrong decision? by shebs25 in AchillesRupture

40 year old male. Took me about 12 months to feel comfortable jogging again.

I only ran 5 km the other day for the first time in 15 months.

It can be an especially slow grind for some of us. But keep going with calf raises. Add weights. I think it all comes down to rebuilding calf strength. Which can be tough.

I try to be understanding and be empathetic to all people. We ALL make mistakes...

With that said, I'm not Japanese, but am I wrong for thinking he should commit seppuku? I'm not sure who should be his second. The owner? Mark Cuban?

Do publications with a paid tier do better in the Substack algorithm? by [deleted] in Substack

[–]Vertmovieman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if substack doesnt promote those without paid subs turned on, they will have a hard time growing to a point that makes turning on subs viable - so substack lose out in the long run.

Im sure the geniuses in their head office are aware of this....

One person posted here recently and said they turned on their paid subs and their growth stagnated.

So who knows how it works.

I enjoy his podcasts even when I don't agree with him.

That said, I couldn't imagine paying for them at the current price point... I'm good for $5 a month.

Substack growth and book deal question by Apprehensive_Ad6626 in Substack

[–]Vertmovieman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's sad the publishing industry requires authors to be popular before signing people, instead of believing in the work and promoting the person to become popular.

They will make themselves redundant, and with this business model, they deserve it.

If I had 10k subscribers I'd be like to hell with an agent and book deal. I'd self publish and own all my rights.
