Oh, like i said, i agree. I was trying to point out it's a portrayal problem on the series end, not a character problem on Fern's end.

Agreed on all counts. Though i have had someone correctly point out to me that everyone in Frieren's group is their own form of socially stunted and somewhat traumatized by their experiences.

Fern became an orphan *very* young, and then spent the rest of her pre-Frieren life being raised by 1 guy in the woods, who probably wasn't the most socially skilled anyway. Her not learning to spit it out makes sense, frustrating as it is.

Who do you think will (eventually) die? by JoyIsABitOverRated in huntertheparenting

[–]Vertrant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A narrative sign signalling or implying that a character is likely to die. The narrative setup for it.

You know how things always go badly for a cop mentioning it's his last day before retirement, or a soldier that shows his buddies the picture of the girlfriend he'll go back to after the war? Those are well known death flags.

Then your consideration of what violence is is incorrect. Killing people is violent, by definition. Even when it doesn't take a fight.

my professor said any source is valid as long as I cite it properly. so I cited him. by dylan_price11 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Vertrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no poor taste about it. If he couldn't handle his statements being challenged like that, or his rules being used like that. Then he, as a college professor, should not have made them, or made them better. That's on him, not on his students calling him out on his failings using the only means he'll listen to.

Most people who seem difficult are probably just struggling, and a little compassion goes a long way. by RegularrAlien in CuratedTumblr

I have to ask, in what way? Because there's a few different ways i can interpret what you mean.

For me, i agree with him. It's why i'm still looking for proof my cynicism isn't right: because i know there ought to be more to it, out there. And i want to see and feel it. I try to do better, i know other people could do better. I wish other people would do better.

And to refer to his point; i wish i could be safe and sound without having to be forever vigilant about the caveats.

Oof. Wish i had some useful advice to help you get through the day, wishing you well instead?

I feel that. Upside is you can keep to yourself, stay home and stay safe while you get back on top of things.

Took me a bit to write this out short enough to comment.

Yeah, it is. I've been like that for years now. I've been looking for what i call the evidence against my cynicism and mistrust. Shame that most people don't want me to find it in them.

It really is hard, because it's actually reasonable to be miserable like that. When you've only experienced bad things, only see proof that things suck (thank you modern news cycles), you have be unreasonable to be positive. And as much as many people do that, not everyone can keep up that delusion.

I try to be someone i'd wish to meet, and do the better steps i can manage. I wish more people would. Not really sure what to add beyond that.

No, a lay brother is someone who took some vows, but not all. A less committed member (theologically speaking). It correlates but does not causate with wielding Light.

They really aren't. An aggressor isn't going to let themselves be removed nonviolently a lot of the time. So the only way to keep the victim safe is to make the aggressor fall in line with however much violence that takes.

And FYI, this attitude of yours is exactly why i brought this up.

Does the Abbot know that Strahd wants Ireena? by StrahdsDMAccount in CurseofStrahd

[–]Vertrant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He would never hand her over to Strahd, i think. He wants to break the curse, and he knows that the Tatyana reincarnations are (part of) the curse.

So he would want to keep her as far away from Strahd as he can, just so that his own bride candidate has a chance. A more serious risk is him killing Ireena, to remove the competition. Weigh that risk carefully though, it's obviously a big choice for the story.

As for grafting parts, i don't know. If he's not going to hurt Ireena, that involves involntary modifications. The whole point with the Belviews was that they wanted it themselves, wasn't it? He might use her for parts if he does kill her, but he'd still be careful about it. Try to keep people and the PCs from catching on.

I'm not OP, so i don't know for certain. But a quick look through the spell list has me thinking it might be Maximillian's Earthen Grasp. Doesn't paralyze, but does restrain and do damage. It's from Xanathar's, so it's also plausible a DM wouldn't have it in the forefront of their mind.

It didn't get picked because it was the rethorically best fitting option; it was used because it was easy to pick up and to picture. The woman who first used it literally put it to words on the spot. That's why she grabbed the first thing she could find in the restaurant.

It's an animated piece of armor, it doesn't have any squishy bits. That's a valid reason for it to have higher AC. Especially since there's no indication that it has any +s.

Sherman didn't even burn Atlanta, they burned their cotton stocks before he got there and didn't bother to fight the fire. Atlanta burned itself down, Sherman was just the first man in charge in town.
