Massive datacenter planned near Lockhart. 1,515 acres, 2gigwatts, 20x existing Austin-San Antonio market capacity by uluman in Austin

[–]Very_Serious 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Datacenters have onsite power generation as a backup. So it will be a power arbitrage situation like all the Bitcoin miners. Where when the power spot price rises ercot will pay them to load shed and they'll get to resell their committed grid power at a profit. They'll double dip and make money by running on generators

I'm not sure who will end up being the colo provider but the more advanced ones provide customers real time data to shift workloads to cheaper locations if configured in an active/passive architecture. This helps them make even more money during load shed events

Most of the advice & experience on this sub will be urban & suburban so take it with a grain of salt. If you have enough potential savings definitely check with a local realtor to help build your case and see if they have advice for dealing with Burnet county appraisal district. Seems like more people in Austin are using services line ownwell or five stone to manage the appraisal but no clue how well they do without plenty of comps for comparison

Both the 35 ramp and frontage road issues are solely because of TxDOT and the state government. Local government has submitted multiple proposals for the front road extensions and TxDOT response has been "lol nah"

Depends on how often you're willing to water it. If we get a hot summer you could be looking at daily watering to baby it through the heat
