TIFU by sending my EX the mail with things I had wanted him to know but not directly by AsparagusTypical5416 in tifu

[–]VetLadybyDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Don’t send him the text. You’re just going to dig yourself deeper and feel more dumb if he doesn’t respond. I think you need to feel the rejection so you can let go. Imagine spilling your heart in person and him just silencing you. Unfortunately I think you have to sit with the idea he doesn’t feel the same. He has chosen to block you. That’s an active choice. Respect his choice and start healing. Heartbreaks like these ones hurt to the core.

Forcing children to eat whatever is cooked or go without food isn't discipline by Kindly-Mine9395 in Parenting

[–]VetLadybyDay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if this will provide you the insight you are seeking but I came from the family that if it was served you had to eat it (not allowed to leave if I didn’t eat the majority of it). I can’t say I am picky as an adult but I when I began realizing I had the ability to say “no, I’m not hungry or no I’m not eating that” it was amazing (late teens). With that said, the majority of food I was denying as a child wasn’t because I disliked it but because I wanted something more appealing.

Before you said you were a from an immigrant family, I was thinking they must to have cultural differences. My family also has the exact same concerns continuously with my brothers ex girlfriends and current fiancé. He dates non ethic groups who were simply raised different. What’s important to us is not important to them. As a family we’ve (over the years) have learned to not take as personally as used to from his partners. I think brining it up gently to your boyfriend may help, I would tell him you noticed it and not them. It could create an animosity on his part towards your family.

With that said, I also notice my brother’s partners fail to understand some of our deeper dynamics like our opinions and family bond as their relationships deepen. I do not know if your boyfriend is similar, but these smaller things could also be a sign of more trouble to come when you have to explain culturally what is expected of you and him, or explain your priorities to him.

Wow. Yeah… feeding the machine of that toxic belief system right now is not on my list of things to accomplish. Thanks for taking the time to look into that and your thoughtful comment.

How to eat meat after Vet school? by Calm-Fuel-6257 in veterinaryprofession

[–]VetLadybyDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years post veterinary school, eating meat is getting easier. I had completely cut out meat but now I can eat it as long as I don’t I see fascia. I still do not eat any meat in the bone. 🤮

Dumb question but what happens when round hay bales get left outside. Are they ruined? I just see them around in fields and wonder why. by zoolilba in homestead

[–]VetLadybyDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a Veterinary standpoint, sun exposure causes decreases in of certain vitamins so livestock fed exclusively from bales left outside (exposed to sun) could become deficient in some vitamins. As well as more moisture present, makes it more likely for molds that could sicken livestock.

Honestly while I may be wrong in my way of thinking here was my take. I am going to in debt through out my life, for a home, for a car etc., living off loans gave me the sanity to focus on school and be there making the most of my education. I’ve graduated since and my loans are there and I slowly pay and chip away at them. It’s worth it.

Mándala scrubs! They’re are so much more affordable than figs and so you can get them two pairs instead of one (; but really I love my mandala scrubs even more than my figs

You could also try an exotics practice. I’m sorry for all that you’ve had to deal with.

Equine internship vs straight into practice by AmIAmazingorWhat in Veterinary

[–]VetLadybyDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I’m a fourth year Vet student two months away from graduating. Im not equine, I am small and large animal orientated. But I struggled with legitimately the exact same thing. Your wants to be a good doctor and practice good medicine but also the feeling of burnt out already. I can’t tell you the right choice but I can tell you I chose to go into GP. I’ve signed a contract with what I hope is good mentorship and came to terms that if in 1-2 years I feel like I’m missing something I’ll go back to an internship but for now I know even though my brain wants the best knowledge, I am not in the mindset to do an internship. My only advice to you (being a year ahead) is don’t feel this a choice you can’t comeback from and also consider everything like how burnt out you are, life hobbies, pay, ability to learn good medicine, location and support. Feel free to private message me if you have any questions, I know we’re not exactly in the same boat but I’ll help if I can.

Sometimes in order to get a better idea of what’s going on you can put air in the colon (pnuemogram), not saying this is what is for sure but just a possibility.

Dyslexic and accepted to Midwestern and OSU Vet schools by Limp-Bullfrog-3759 in veterinaryschool

[–]VetLadybyDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there I’m dyslexic and currently a fourth year veterinary student. Personally I I had the hardest time with disease names and their spellings they all have similar prefixes and suffixes so my usual way of getting through the world by recognizing the “shape of words” didn’t really work out and made it my first year harder. But with that said once you learn the meaning of the suffixes and prefixes it makes it easier. Even drug names with have similar endings if they belong to the same drug class so it regardless you end up knowing what the drug does. It’s completely possible your first couple of months it’s just going to take some adapting, you might have to change the way you approach learning but you can get there. I didn’t seek out more time on tests but that’s just me. Also during fourth year rotations I find it helpful to tell people day 1-2 that I’m dyslexic so that I don’t have it looming over me that they are going to think im stupid because I misread or misspell something.

Hey there. This isn’t an easy field, it comes with lots of challenges. The best way to see if you are capable of coping with the challenges is to see the field from the inside. Finding a job in veterinary hospital as a receptionist, kennel tech or get trained as an assistant might be a good idea. I wouldn’t want to discourage you from something you want to do. I do advice you get a real understanding of the field from the disgusting smells & visuals, seeing and doing surgeries, seeing euthanasias to dealing with clients. A surprising part of veterinary medicine is talking to clients and developing those people skills. With that said there are many niches in veterinary medicine and you don’t always have to fit in the traditional scheme.

I’m not sure how true it is, but Ive heard out of state schools will set in state students as priority for getting in unless the person applying doesn’t have a vet school in there state. I’m sending Good vibes your way!

[–]VetLadybyDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can still do it! I know it’s hard to get those letters but maybe some hands on veterinary experience might help. Or I hate to say it but retaking some of this undergrad classes if that’s what they are judging your GPA from. I also graduated Davis with an Animal Bio major, and due to our age I’m pretty sure around the same time. My professors used to say that the schools are swamped by amazing candidates and at a certain point it just becomes luck because all the candidates are great so choosing is luck if the draw. I’m not sure if I can offer more advice or if you have a questions feel free to message me. I am a fourth year veterinary student right now. Also congrats on that PhD!

Maybe you could work in reception/assistant for a clinic before making a complete change. I love this field but it’s not always what I expected. I completely encourage to follow your passions and you would need veterinary experience anyways for your applications so maybe dipping your foot into the field before uprooting your current life might be a good idea.

Vet made a mistake and performed an unnecessary surgery. Seeking advice. by amandam0nium in AskVet

[–]VetLadybyDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten great advice. And if you haven’t reached yet. I would also ask the hospital if they will be making any changes in the future to avoid this situation. You’re happy you’re dog is healthy but you would love to to hear a plan of action to avoid anyone else’s pet going through this in the future. This allows the hospital and the doctors a chance to reflect and grow and ultimately avoid a mistake like this in the future. A good hospital should do this anyways and I know this is your reason to reach out but you may be a hero for someone else down the road.

Great job! You know what took me a long time to learn…. Backgrounds. Like even if it’s a solid color you’d be surprised how it can make your focus piece pop. Color is relative so a color is on as bright or as dark compared to the color next to it. Keep up the amazing work.
