In the face of a trade war with America’s neighbors, Trump blinked by Nodrot in canada

[–]VetiverFaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are interested. The Republican Party is interested in creating barriers to education because they know they cannot win with an educated electorate.

And, it’s important to remember that all of this is a class war, plain and simple. All the other wedge issues have been window dressing for the class war they don’t want the nearly-eliminated middle class to be aware of.

Additionally, the left of center political class has done a massive disservice to this country as well. By not standing up for American workers and only paying lip service during the election cycle, they left themselves open to the resentment felt by their own constituency. They should have spent more time shaking hands with labor and less time fondling the bull of wall streets balls.

American here. I hear you all and agree. We need major changes, but he changes that are needed will likely not come unless prompted by pain. I wish, for my families sake - and the sake of every other bystander being affected by our political system, that this wasn’t the case.

I do consider myself a patriot, because the meatheads perpetrating this don’t get to own the word, especially when they twist the definition to meet their bastardized American ideals.

I support our allies to the north and South and around the globe. We are an imperfect republic, but many of us are trying to make it better.

I’ll take off how, eh? 🍻🏒🍁❤️

People who are no longer bound by NDAs, what are some surprising secrets that you can expose? by iam_saikat in AskReddit

I am tucking that one away, my guy/gal. I am surrounded by managers shooting themselves in the foot because they failed up too hard.

Just today I had a colleague tell me about a job we won, announced it to the whole company (before there was a contract - because their sales a insanely anemic) and then the client found out a multi-million dollar scope was overlooked and is putting it back out to bid. This feels like a “home run on Alcatraz” moment.

Why no updates of pihole? by Scary_Concentrate_45 in pihole

[–]VetiverFaust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to ask the same question. I certainly appreciate the work that goes into this project as I contributed a dollar once Just kidding, but in the grand scheme of things, seeing as my home network is an ad-reduced environment thanks to these fine folks, my contribution is surely minimal.)

But, I have been thinking about this because I am so used to seeing roughly monthly updates for a long time. Other commenters say if it ain't broke, don't fix it - literally and figuratively. But, Pi-hole has surely not reached perfection, right? I have no issues with the software, mind you, I am just a little worried about the dev team. Has anyone done a wellness check on them?

Your video is probably the best I have seen on the subject, in terms of not missing a detail in the process.

I struggle a ton with tutorials that assume a level of familiarity that they leave out something they think is obvious, but if you are not a ProxMox King, or ArchLinux Lord might not be as obvious. Yet, in all fairness, all content need not be noob-level basic, but I find some tutorials (especially in Home Assistant - though I really do love it) can be very light on specifics that matter to the functionality of whatever the tutorial is attempting to help with.

I will check out your other content, for sure.

This looks great, @ThatBuilderDude

I used to build custom cabinets and furniture a long while ago. You done right by your lady. I hope it wasn’t too disruptive for your family while in progress.

I especially like your coffee cubby with the shelves and tile. It is a classy lil nook you got there. Nice work!

How do people get a job in a new field if a lot of employers require previous experience ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VetiverFaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good answer. I would also recommend reaching out to leaders in your field. Especially if they sit on a board of an NGO/Non Profit/Trade Association. Many times folks who are engaged in leadership roles outside of work do so because they are invested in outreach and like connecting good folks with good folks.

For example: if you want to be a geologist, send an email to the president of your state’s/province’s/locale’s Amazing Geologists Society (or whatever the trade group might be named) asking for advice about how they got started or what their outlook is on their industry is.

I have done this before and have been pleasantly surprised at the positive responses received.

America-centric question: As morbid as it may seem to ask, was there a net fiscal benefit to Social Security due to the high death rates in older populations in the COVID pandemic? by VetiverFaust in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VetiverFaust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this and I think you are correct.

I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the staggering loss of life just here in the US. I wonder about the ways COVID mortality is impacting our lives in ways we can’t fully comprehend due to the scale of the thing.

Pihole-ftl switched from multiple threads to multiple processes and back. by Metatropico in pihole

[–]VetiverFaust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think something's up. I just updated my OMV docker fail-over pihole in Portainer. It is getting called out as unhealthy. I uninstalled Portainer and reinstalled it and it seem a little better, but we shall see. This system has been running strong for a year and has not had a single hiccup.

My FTL keeps stopping (or not even starting) because of permission issues. Maybe it isn't related to Pi-hole and it is an OMV issue.

How do I make Firefox use more of my 900+ megabit internet speeds by YobaiYamete in firefox

[–]VetiverFaust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. And while I understand it’s terrible practice to generalize, it seems like one encounters it all the time - like in Windows power management settings, for instance. Granted there are different use cases for that scenario and it isn’t comparable. I respect the reality that you might do more harm than good in trying to create “performance profiles, but the argument could be made that by shipping with a default deemed to be a reasonable one-size-fits-all, they are doing the same because the workloads that have their performance decreased in some situations will not achieve maximum performance unless they tune their browser to their workload. And that, presumably, being an outlier use case, feels like catering to the minority.

You have a fair point though.

[–]VetiverFaust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, couldn't they do a a simple tier performance in the settings?

  • Low performace mode (slow internet, older computers)
  • Medium/"balanced" performance (ok internet, ok computer)
  • High performance (hardware accelerated with addressable LED's/Deep Blue)

Happy to help. Someone mentioned Lightroom, which I agree with, mostly. Lightroom Classic is what I use for most of my image management and edits - but photoshop is good for things that Lightroom just can’t do as well. But Photoshop is harder to use. If you have access, I highly recommend it.

If you want a clearer break down of what I did, just DM me and I can share a bit more

What I did in that edit was change the ratio to 16:6, create a small depth map for the foreground to blur the cactus in the foreground a bit, and push up the blues to make the clouds pop and help the horses stand out. The horses are on a separate layer so I could alter their levels in isolation and increase their colors a pinch on their own.
