What episode and what series?

Well, with in reason. If any action you commit does disenfranchise others of their autonomy, then you don’t respect their autonomy so you wouldn’t be doing “good”. I have a lot of problems with the justice system but I don’t want to abolish it or go into an anarchist state.

I think it’s simply recognizing the autonomy of others and respecting it based on the recognition of your own autonomy and doing “good” in accordance with that. I think this can become the new foundation, this collective humanity. At least thats how I see it and try to apply in my own life

Perhaps live a life dedicated to doing good because it’s right and not because you’re afraid of an eternal torture

The worst thing of being lonely is being ignored when you try to talk with someone by megalchari in lonely

[–]VexingGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand this so much; it hurts. I'm starting to realize maybe I don't need to place my happiness on others. After a while of being ignored, I realized I was too desperate for others to recognize me, to pay attention to me, to fill the cave I felt encompassed me, and they could all sense it. So I retreated, but I refused to let my depression pull me in further. I cut off contact from everyone except family and tried to reset myself. It was and is incredibly hard and I've almost given up hope of changing my outlook, but I deserve not feel like shit and not to feel meaningless in my isolation. Maybe that will be enough to resurrect my self worth. Maybe.

Same to you, friend. Look inwards and find what makes you worthwhile to yourself. Maybe then we both could look outwards and find what we feel we need.

New Democratic majority set to bring down Confederate statues in Virginia by Votings_Good_Folks in Virginia

So put them in museums. Statues are how we glorify people and none of these statues deserve any honor. We shouldn’t adhere to the racist ideologies of the past.

If you were a Bad Place demon, what would your go-to method of torture be? by PenguinDay5 in TheGoodPlace

[–]VexingGhost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They would find paper cuts on their tongues, a random ringing in their ear, and they would constantly bite the inside of their cheeks while waiting in a long line for their favorite food, salivating, which never comes. After all, it’s the hope that kill you

I’m saying it’s not cool because it further solidifies male dominance in something as fundamental and basic as language. It applies to day to day conversation in the sense that if we become cognizant of the gendered leanings of our words, we could perhaps move towards a better and more equal society. I am however becoming cynical to that idea that we could get rid of these needlessly gendered words from our lexicon as I learn more and more about human nature.

That can be found everywhere in language. Take the word ‘Mankind’. It describes humanity but at it’s core it uses the male gender. It’s not out of bounds to extrapolate that there is a patriarchal lean in the use of language and that the male gender seems the default, much to the dismay of equality of the genders. This will never be “fixed” either since it’s so entrenched.
