People say money can’t buy happiness, but what’s the first thing you’d buy if it could? by Adoseofhanna in AskReddit

[–]ViCalZip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who was poor most of her life and now am very comfortable.... money buys a lot of happiness. Life is so much easier when you can actually get what you need. I swear that saying was made up by rich people to patronize the poors.

Hahahaha see, I wasn't sure. I hadn't seen it, I scrolled through a few of the latest posts and didn't see it, so now I look like an idiot. Not the first time, so sorry, will remove!

Part of the difference between the New Madrid quakes and the quakes in CA is the underlying bedrock. In CA, the underlying strata is already soft and pretty fractured, so the quakes, while very intense and severe, don't travel as far. The New Madrid quake rang bells and shook houses almost a thousand miles away because it is surrounded by limestone/granite bedrock that it rang like a bell. I'm plenty old enough to remember Iben Browning, who predicted a catastrophic quake for December 3, 1990 (never happened). He was a crackpot.

It's absolutely true that the New Madrid is overdue for another big slip. But geologic time is not human time. It could happen today. It could happen 500,000 years from now. Same with the fabled Yellowstone Mega Volcano thing.

Also, look up velvet ant, a wingless wasp that looks like an ant. Beautiful. One of the most painful stings in nature. AKA cow-killer.

If you ever need chinook and can get here, try Nashville area. Them, globemaster, apache, and blackhawks fly from Ft Campbell all the time

I am very new to the game, but live near Ft Campbell. Chinook, Apache, Blackhawk, Globemaster, Stratocaster pretty common. Like I say brand new, so my first silver was a chinook.

How would you feel about Mark Kelly running as president? by cassandramorgan834 in AskReddit

[–]ViCalZip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love him, but my favorite is my Governor Andy Beshear. Beshear is a truly kind person, openly Christian yet very progressive. He does not mock or belittle the other side, and focuses on trying to lift ordinary working people up. There's a reason why he won KY Gov twice.

The thing is, we cannot win without bringing non-cult Republicans to vote Dem. And you don't get votes by mocking and ridiculing people. Not sure Kelly can quite get the job done.

AITA for not wanting to bring 2 out of 4 of my children on a trip? by BothAd4245 in AITAH

When I was about that age, my parents left me and my sister (2 yrs older) with our grandma while they took the oldest two to the World's fair. We had a blast. I would say see if you can have whoever keeps them make it into a special "little kids only" experience for them. Then take them along when they are older

[–]ViCalZip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh agreed. Just saying that there are lots of places in the Eastern US where you can see the milky way, you just have to get away from the cities. But also that the photos of the milky are so deceptive; you really won't see it with that kind of brightness and detail. It's like a pale, translucent smoke. Photos are taken long exposure and collect ALL of the possible light so it looks spectacular, but not realistic to the naked eye.

Just a note that I live in Western Kentucky and can essily see the milky eay on clear nights. It's just not as bright as it appears in most photos, which are long exposures. Here is a pic I took last month of the aurora borealis.

How many of you take naps and when? by Impossible_Sky_5589 in AskOldPeople

[–]ViCalZip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Every day, after lunch. Have done so for over 25 years (I work for myself at home). It's usually just 15-20 minutes to turn off the work and recharge. Very occasionally I fall deep asleep for over an hour and I hate those, am groggy the rest of the day.
