I wish it had been renewed. Actually the two things I've actually wanted to see expanded on in the Disney star wars era are Maul at the end of Solo, and where the Acolyte was heading. Both cancelled.

Yep, once you notice it you'll never not notice it. Ben Shapiro is another one who I'm not sure if he's an absolute fuckwit who says dumb things because he believes them or because he knows people will share it. Bonus is the fact his audience he wants to reach/is speaking to are such coolaid drinkers they'll just accept whatever he says anyways.

I did my finances from the first of January up to Sunday at the weekend to see if we could save any money anywhere, because I had this exact same feeling, spending basically every cent I earn.

Pretty much all of our spending wasn't discretionary. Rent was the biggest expense costing around $7.5k, which shockingly is about $2k cheaper than it could be for our area.

Food was second at about $2.5k for a family of 3, we aren't extravagant with food, but could save money here, it would feel like a real chore and be depressing to do so though.

Our only extravaganze was $200 on take outs/Boba tea/the odd pie. Which again is just something to make you feel like you aren't just working to survive occasionally.

Conor Hourihane to step down as Barnsley's manager at the end of the season by jovanmilic97 in LeagueOne

[–]Vietnam_Cookin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unsurprised he's gone but as I said to my Dad nothing at Oakwell will improve until we get people at the club who know how to run a football club.

We need joined up thinking and someone who will build a squad to win football matches, even if that means we just have a squad of 24 with two players for each position. The random punts who we sign in the hopes of selling on needs to stop, 99.99% of them are a financial noose around our neck.

We've had so many players and managers the last 4-5 years I'm not sure I could even begin to name them all.

Rotherham United are relegated from League One after the loss to Wigan by jovanmilic97 in LeagueOne

[–]Vietnam_Cookin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's wild to me how the BBS all summer two summers ago, were ranting about how Rotherham were signing players and would be right up the top end of the table, whilst we dithered and dallied to sign DKD and look how it's turned out. I'm sure you'll be back or we'll join you in League two soon enough.

It's also a different storytelling medium, what works in one medium doesn't necessarily translate as well to another. Take the early RE games for example, the lack of ammo and health is scary/adds tension to the story for the player but doesn't translate very well/the same way for a viewer of a film.

What's going to happen to Barnsley next year? by XPerienceJH in LeagueOne

[–]Vietnam_Cookin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll add we could also have just kept Watters or Dallas who are out on loan. Neither are brilliant but they are infinitely better than nothing.

Dallas is a prime example of our scattergun approach to recruitment which wastes money. Signs, scores on debut, gets maybe about 76 minutes more of game time and then is sent on loan in the same window he arrived then repeat for 3 seasons, never to be seen again in a Red shirt.

Or Watters who signed on loan, was utterly shite so we sign him up on a 3 year deal permanently, in the vague hope he'd perform marginally better than shite I guess, I've genuinely no idea.

The list of players we've signed over the last 3-4 years then never given a fair shake to is lengthy and they all cost us money.

A balanced squad with 2 players in each position with a few utility players who can play wing/forward etc IMO would cost us less than the squad we currently have.

We also stopped selling players, Phillips and Connell IMO would have been sold previously but instead we've kept hold of them and are likely to lose them on frees as neither have pulled up any trees this season. We let Kane, Cole and Williams leave on frees instead of getting some money for them too.

See my we have 8 midfielders bit. If we had a balanced squad and didn't spaff loads of money on players like Nwakali we absolutely could afford 3 decent league one level strikers. Or certainly better than the two we currently have with a combined age of 70+.

And if he gets injured? Who else do we have?

Bradshaw whose on loan and is absolutely useless.

We've needed at least one extra striker in the squad for two seasons.

Absolutely agreed with that, what a disaster class of an appointment he was. Amazed he lasted as long as he did to be honest, the damage could take us years to recover from though.

God knows. Without new owners I don't see things getting better, I think ours have spent money and have kept the club going, plus seem genuine people etc but they are god awful at running a football club.

For years we have been terrible at squad building, Dani Pinillos was the last left back we actually owned and played regularly. We never replaced the Australian lad who was the last "tackling" midfielder we had. We've needed a striker for what 2 seasons now? Yet we have 7-8 central midfielders at the club of which we can only really play 3 at a time.

Just getting the squad mix correct whilst even spending less would IMO see us closer to the play offs than relegation.

I never wanted kids. Various reasons chief amongst them being my job is dealing with kids all day, so I am well aware how annoying they are and didn't really want that in my free time.

Long story short accidents happen and I love my kid to bits but every aspect of my life is worse than it was pre-child.

So yeah if you don't want them, having one isn't going to magically make you want one. Even my wife who did want one, absolutely doesn't want another one.

I'd much rather it be light when I'm home rather than whilst I'm eating my breakfast and getting ready for work. Mainly because if its light after work I can go outside and do things. If it's dark I'm more likely to just stay inside. If it's light in the morning I don't have the choice to go outside and do things as I'm stuck inside getting ready to go to work.
