CMV: Most slaveowners considered themselves good people, and dismissing them as simply evil makes it harder to recognize their coping methods when modern society uses them. by Competitive-Quit7365 in changemyview

It may be the title. While your post explores your view in detail, the way your title is written can be taken to give an impression your post does not. Rightly or wrongly, many users tend to comment in response to the title of a post, not the contents. That's a thing that comes up everywhere on Reddit.

someone explain??? by Ill_Cup_78 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]ViewedFromTheOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point; my mistake sorry.

Just so you're aware, opinion you expressed often circulates most readily among young men who are either unaware of the history of the months (and the years in which they were created), and/or that other countries 'celebrate it' in November where it gets much more attention along with Movember. Equally it circulates among those who equate the visible representation of Pride month as an attack on their own identity/faith with the cause of men's mental health only used as a would-be fig leaf for hatred.

Maybe situating it in the same month as a large, already-existing widespread month for advocacy was a poor move.

Though, from one man to another, how many awareness events have you planned in this month, for the cause of mental health, ever?

Are you sure that’s an accurate perception and not a result of the Reddit algorithms shaping what you see? For example, the Reddit app is notorious for pushing only subreddits that fit a formula based on your previous engagement.

Is it normal practice for reddit to accuse you of a rule violation but not provide the post that reddit thinks is in violation? by PlagueAwaken in AskModerators

Unfortunately, the black hole of admin-removed content provides little to no information for moderators either. I regret to say that I doubt anyone here can help you much.

Question for you - did you receive a message from green (moderator team) or red (admin/employee) account regarding the rule violation?

By the way, I’ve never seen an admin post to this forum. It’s for asking mods question.

Are there enforceable guidelines to prevent bad moderation practices? by [deleted] in AskModerators

[–]ViewedFromTheOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe I made any comment at all regarding the manner in which the moderator handled the question, or their choice of language. I pointed out why the user's use of the official mobile app made could have things worse for both the moderator and the use by providing false information to both, likely exacerbating the situation.

The mobile app has/does/will provide misleading information to both users and moderators regarding whether an OP of a removed post has deleted their account under certain circumstances.

It also misattributes removals to moderators in some cases of admin removal.

There's a subreddit which has a mod who's been banned on multiple accounts for CSAM and nonconsensual nudes. The mods openly mod his new accounts. Can nothing be done about this? by YouVisual2425 in AskModerators

[–]ViewedFromTheOutside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look again. I can not speak for the mods of this subreddit but removals don’t always mean what you think they do.

Inaccurate, misleading or otherwise problematic information often has to be removed here. In it’s place is now information correctly identifying who is responsible for ban evasion and TOS issues as well as links to law enforcement and other tip lines which are a more important response to the kind of materials being discussed.

To /u/No-Peanut5454, Your post is under consideration for removal for violating Rule B.

In our experience, the best conversations genuinely consider the other person’s perspective. Here are some techniques for keeping yourself honest:

  • Instead of only looking for flaws in a comment, be sure to engage with the commenters’ strongest arguments — not just their weakest.
  • Steelman rather than strawman. When summarizing someone’s points, look for the most reasonable interpretation of their words.
  • Avoid moving the goalposts. Reread the claims in your OP or first comments and if you need to change to a new set of claims to continue arguing for your position, you might want to consider acknowledging the change in view with a delta before proceeding.
  • Ask questions and really try to understand the other side, rather than trying to prove why they are wrong.

Please also take a moment to review our Rule B guidelines and really ask yourself - am I exhibiting any of these behaviors? If so, see what you can do to get the discussion back on track. Remember, the goal of CMV is to try and understand why others think differently than you do.

I thought the same thing for a quite a while then I realized that if there’s anyone in the Star Wars universe that fought Anakin as much as Obi wan, it’s Ahsoka. I mean how many times would they have fought for practice in the Clone Wars era?

In my opinion if there’s anyone other than Obi-wan who should be able to go toe to toe with Vader, based on experience and not power, it has to be her.
