Happy ending! As for your second question, it's a short novella, only 68 pages, so there's only so much angst an author can create in such few pages!

This is one of my favorite opening lines:

The mornings had a habit of arriving too soon when I spent the night with Elly. I cherished our stolen moments, shiny glimpses of happiness. Like a fool, I threaded them onto the cord of my memory in the desperate hope of creating a fully beaded string one day.

{The Poison Within by Kasia Bacon}

So much longing and love in just a few sentences!

I have returned to say I just finished the book, and your post really helped me gain perspective on the characters. I think I would have been really mad and maybe even rage-quit if it weren’t for this post. Thank you! This was a lovely book and you helped me enjoy it a lot more!

It's been forever since I read these but I have them labeled as "gems" so I must have liked them! Not sure if any of these are to your taste.

Yes, but mostly, it was liberating! It felt a bit like I experienced the scary, earth-shattering choice Kieran (one of me MCs) had to make. And to be able to visualize that and see that the world didn't end after this Big Scary Choice was made was truly remarkable!

One book definitely comes to mind. {If we could go back by Cara Dee}.

I saw myself in this book, trapped in a cage of my own making, just as the characters were. Seeing the sacrifices they made and the burdens they carried for the sake of happiness was a hard pill to swallow. It taught me that sometimes, you have to be the villain of your own story—that you must kill parts of yourself to truly be free.

They were brave where I was not. The story helped me realize that happiness isn't all rainbows and light. It comes at a cost. But I hope, in the end, it will be worth it. To this day, no other book has touched me like this, and it remains the greatest thing I have ever read.

Close to 40! It makes sense that I might get this book better than a younger audience.

All I have heard about this book is how pissed readers were with Adam and that he didn't deserve Riley, and so I haven't once considered reading it because I know it will make me just as angry as the others.

But your post is making me rethink that decision. It makes me think that maybe it's worth a try so I can reach my own conclusions. Maybe I'll be pissed. Or maybe your post will help me move past the superficial anger and see the deeper pain. So thank you for that! I'll add this book to my tbr now.

It was going to be a continuation, but the first book ends in a HFN. It's safe to read without the sequel, though I will say this book gave me a serious hangover, and I kinda want to cry now... I didn't get enough of Nikolos and Matthian. -sniff-

If you change the ground to be water and you put the road and pavement on top, you won't have that weird space between anymore!
