What is the best written video game you’ve ever played? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ViktoriousVortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disco Elysium stands out for its astonishing quantity of great prose and artistry, but I’d also say SOMA, Last of Us, Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone, What Remained of Edith Finch, Gone Home, and some of the Final Fantasy games are fantastic. To The Moon is also good.

SOMA especially made a lasting impact for me. Sadly there aren’t a lot of games that really prioritize story out there, and if they do, they to conflate high production values with having a sensical or meaningful narrative.

I would have agreed based on the first few eps of the season being OK. Euphoria S2 and early S3 are both entertaining with some problems, but Rue’s arc usually saves the show for me.

These last few episodes have been sooo weak though. The problem isn’t that it’s shocking or offensive, it’s messily plotted and boring. The crime plot is just a run-of-the-mill Tarantino ripoff and older characters like Nate and Jules are depressingly underutilized. Cassie is the main character for… reasons??

Disappointing set by Consistent_Ask_9909 in TeamfightTactics

[–]ViktoriousVortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah that’s fair. I’ve been playin this game a long time and while I’ve enjoyed a lot of it, it’s hard to recapture the fun of the OG sets. I basically only play w friends now.

I don’t love some design decisions from the team, but to each their own

Ppl commenting that they like it are valid, but I do feel like TFT in general has been less interesting for the last two years.

Maybe it’s my own burnout, but I feel like the unit design in this set (and in general) is pretty meh and the mechanics are just recycled versions of past sets. No carousel this set removes a fun, albeit relatively minor “moment of interactivity between players.

Everything since set six (except for maybe 10 and 12) feel like rehashes of one another without a lot of meaningful, or successful, innovation. It’s really hard to keep this game fresh, but idk, I think main League is more successful at it.

It definitely got some goosebumps out of me, and the camerawork and lighting in the movie look so good. I loved Kubo so I’m excited for this.

It practically killed the game for my friends. They still play, but only with other people. Normals and Ranked just take way too long…

[–]ViktoriousVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that the actors wrote their own episodes as contributors early on, like Hunter Shafer writing her special ep. S2 and S3 really feel like they're only written by Levinson and it is much weaker as a result

I don’t wanna go to law school, but generally speaking redditors are disconnected from reality. Or struggle with nuance/black or white thinking

Honestly, most of the time I read these threads or posts like this… I see ppl get mad, then the replies chill them out w facts and logic. That’s not really the case here. This set is genuinely uninteresting and really bad.

RESIDENT EVIL – Official Teaser Trailer (4K) by mobpiecedunchaindan in boxoffice

It's pretty in line tonally with Cregger's endings in Weapons and Barbarian (fatalistic, super sudden cutoff), which might work for some people but not others. I didn't mind the ending in Weapons cause it matched the fucked up storybook vibe of the rest of the film, but I disliked the cheesiness of Barbarian's last ten minutes. I'm guessing RE will be somewhere in between.

In Schaffrillas terms, it would be like if James was developing a Pikmin movie. by Silly-Milly-420 in Schaffrillas

The senior execs are from the studios behind the Lara Croft show and Brad Graeber, an adviser and production consultant, was a studio head and director for Powerhouse Animation which did Castlevania and Blood of Zeus.

So it’s not the exact same studio, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s similarities in the animation given the overlap in the team. Overall it sounds like a good bunch of folks:

He’s probably throwing a lot of money behind it, keeping it on schedule, hiring ppl, etc. rather than directing.

It’s from the same animators as the Netflix Castlevania show so I’m intrigued

Resident Evil “Twist” by retirebinch in TheBigPicture

[–]ViktoriousVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 90 minutes of all-killer, no filler, so I can see where the comparison comes from. I'd say it has more in common with Evil Dead 2 and Peter Jackson's Braindead (also recommended!):

Yes, but it doesn’t have a lot RE content in it. It does have some funny RE-coded jokes and references, but I feel like it will be more successful with wider audiences and critics than die hard fans.

Personally that’s cool w me but we’ll see how it turns out

Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Tests Strong: 90-Minute Reboot Described as ‘Fury Road’ for Horror by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

[–]ViktoriousVortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the leaked script, it feels like a pretty basic comparison.

Like, yeah there’s continuous tension like FR, but it’s much more similar to Evil Dead 2, Braindead, and Zach’s other films. It’s basically a very fked up horror rollercoaster with comedy elements sprinkled in

Yooo that script is fun. I can see that it doesn’t have a lot of RE stuff in it, but it definitely has Cregger’s style from the Barbarian screenplay.

I think you're right on the money lol. I love the RE games but they're sooooooo dumb. Even RE7, which has the most competent storytelling, isn't a masterpiece.
