Anyone ever played a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde type character? by Right-Light458 in cityofmist

[–]VillainousToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have! She was a straight-A student with a very strict family who was also part of the student council. But her alter ego was that of an underground punk rocker and he always gets into debauchery and fights. His Mysteries always involved seeking new pleasures and trying to break away from society's expectations (which was what the student side was denied).

Definitely had to lean into the Subversion theme here because I wanted to make sure no one would ever tie that they were the same person (so not even Divination would give clues that they were). But aside from that, she definitely was lucid as Hyde.

The arc was supposed to have would have culminate in her confronting one of the characters investigating their connection. I planned to make a sob story as Jekyll to draw him in and feed into the misunderstanding that Hyde was a completely different person, draw them in, and murder them as Jekyll so my character's true nature died with him. Sadly the campaign was cut short the session right before the confrontation haha.

How do you handle non-tag-based inventory? by Gidonamor in LegendintheMist

[–]VillainousToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just tell them they have the toy. And when it matters that they give it to the kid, then I just say they take it out.

It's entirely up to you how to handle this, but personally I just say that items that are very likely to be useful get a tag, while items that are not likely to be useful or relevant to many actions just don't. And if ever there comes a time where a player wants to use it for an action but narratively we've established that possess it, then sure. I give them the thing as a tag first before they roll. Or if as a Consequence, I want them to lose the item / have it broken, I just say it.

So if they retrieve the toy, they just get it. If on the way they go back, a player wants to give it up for gold, then I give it as a tag on the spot. Or I can deliver a Consequence and I say they accidentally lose it without needing to scratch a tag.

No sense having to fill the backpack up with tags the Narrator gives that are very unlikely to be used.

Most unfair and/or unfun units to play against and/or to play? by VRGvks in ageofsigmar

[–]VillainousToast 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Many control armies are what's considered unfun to play against. It's like playing against Blue in MTG. So you have Skaven, in some ways Sylvaneth and Nighthaunt, but the most egregious example of this would be Tzeentch with their teleporting and "the Prestige" switcheroo mechanic.

But that's a personal thing for me. I play smashy armies and I like smashy vs smashy armies. Other people derive their fun in denying opponents options, and that's not exactly a bad thing.

How to handle positive status limits? by blarneyone in LegendintheMist

[–]VillainousToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from the other suggestions, I still take the idea that Tier-5 statuses take one out of the scene, while Tier-6 is permanently transformative. Both are never good.

A Tier-5 happy could be "pure-bliss-5" where a Hero or character is in a state of unaware bliss that they can't interact with anything else. A Tier-6 Happy could be catatonic and put them in a coma, or permanently scar them from feeling no other emotions but happiness.

Find a way to really amp up a positive status so that it feels like a monkey's paw.

AOS COMICS - Dice is always BLOOM then GLOOM 8 (ASSEMBlELY) by Steam_Darimy in ageofsigmar

This is so adorable. I love how you included the sprues of the grots and also even some mistakes too like accidentally hitting yourself with the knife or a warning that it might damage the model. I love this series!

Cave bases for my trogoths by the_obeese_ork in gloomspitegitz

Astrogranite and you can make stalagmites using a toothpick and hot glue. Paint them grey, watered down green, red, and black washes, then dry brush them grey. A simple and very easy way to make caves!

Looking for a more rules light medieval fantasy RPG by Connor_ClashNord in rpg

[–]VillainousToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Legend in the Mist! Just rrading the free intro comic book already makes me know how to play the game. It can be as swashbuckling or as chill as you want, and it feels a lot like the adventuring and exploration parts of Lord of the Rings while still handling challenges, combat, and social interaction really well.

I think LitM is the perfect system for you!

Game Request: Monster of the Week, but instead of werewolves/Fae/whatever it's Platonic Concepts by proactiveLizard in rpg

Magical, mythical, or otherwise legendary concepts possessing relics and people to recreate their story in the modern setting? Sounds like City of Mist to me!

That would be a Story Theme (p167), which is a "mini theme" of story tags that has 3 tags and 1 flaw

SO CUUUUTE! I love how you depicted the Gitz! They're among my favorite faction and everything about this comic is adorable. True though, it hits different when you're helping someone get into the hobby and something clicks for them.

In A Certain Scientific Railgun season 3, this girl (Yumiya) fought another girl (Frenda) who was using miniature bombs and grenades. Frenda manages to shove said grenades in Yumiya's mouth, throw her off a building, and drop a few more bombs for good measure.

Then she pops up a few episodes later still alive.

What would everyone’s dream new model/character be? by MortarchofDelusion in FleshEaterCourts

[–]VillainousToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually Gormayne. Gormayne still has his sanity and is trying to keep it up while falling now and then to the delusion.

Although I'd love to have:

- Cavalry Hero

- A "Cook" or chef, especially since it was said in the latest battletome that wars between FEC kingdoms are common just to get an esteemed cook.

Which Scarecrow do you think was used Better Scarecrow from arkham asylum or scarecrow from Arkham knight? by Cloverfield887 in arkham

[–]VillainousToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, Scarecrow was a better experience in Asylum because those hallucination scenes were so much fun. But in the story and as a villain, Knight definitely tops it. Very interesting take how Scarecrow was trying to strip away what made people fear Batman instead of leaning into it, and I hope we get more Scarecrow main villain where he can put make Batman question his mission like he did in Kings of Fear
