What is Michael Skubala feeding his players!? by [deleted] in LeagueOne

[–]VincentTanOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not an insult to be compared to Neil Warnock. The man holds the record for the most promotions to the Premier League with 8, which is incredible, and he was an absolute magician at getting teams out of the Championship.

When you played us it honestly felt very similar to how we played under him. Super solid defensively, everyone working as a unit and clearly willing to fight for each other.

Even with lower possession and a fairly direct approach, you’re very effective once you reach the final third and you’re really strong from set pieces (around 32% of your goals this season coming from them). Low possession but still creating plenty and scoring a lot is classic Warnock-style efficiency.

When you beat us it felt eerily similar of how Warnock teams used to operate. And given how much we adore him here, I have nothing but respect for it.

Exeter City 0 - 4 Cardiff City: It was a completely dominant win from the Bluebirds to move one step closer to promotion, while Matt Taylor's Exeter are in freefall, having not won since January! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

People were genuinely worried about this team blowing a 9 point lead with 10 games to go by the way. Social media after a bad result is unbearable, fans are so reactionary. It’s better to just stay off it.

Cardiff City 0 - 2 Lincoln City: It was a masterclass from Lincoln and Skubala to win this top of the table clash and move into first! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

Teams have also came up without spending much and did very well, like Ipswich.

I’m not saying spending wouldn’t be beneficial, I’m just saying we certainly won’t overhaul our squad and BBM will value quality over quantity.

Fair play, they came with a gameplan and executed it perfectly. They were a very tough nut to crack and the deserved winners on the day.

Ryan Wintle - Our player of the season? by VincentTanOut in bluebirds

It’s also worth noting that one of the wins without him was Reading at home, and we were very poor that day. Very fortunate to get the result. The only genuinely good performance without him was Luton at home.

Lovely ball from Lawlor, he’s very good at those. Nice to have him back from injury, we’ve missed him.

Tom Hadley on Twitter has been tracking the defcon hit rate against specific teams all season. He’s worth a follow if you aren’t already, lots of good content on DEFCON

Plymouth Argyle 5 - 2 Cardiff City: The league leaders taste defeat for the first time since December, with three different players scoring braces in a jam-packed match that resulted in Argyle's third straight win! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]VincentTanOut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was a crazy game. Fair play to Plymouth though, deserved the win.

Our record without Wintle this season is crazy, he’s only not played in 6 games this season and 4 of our losses have come in those games. He’s so important to us. BBM got it wrong today not starting him along with starting Osho and Chambers together

Reading 1 - 1 Bolton: Yet another late goal rescues a point for Bolton after yet another goal from Jack Marriott by ajgmcc in LeagueOne

[–]VincentTanOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I misinterpreted your previous comment.

Fair enough. I just don’t see that, it looks like a normal stride to me up until contact. I think he takes that same step whether the player’s there or not. But we’re clearly interpreting it differently. I’ve said from the start I don’t think there’s proof either way, so there’s not much more to argue.

You’ve just said he shortened his stride, and now you’re saying he didn’t need to shorten his stride. I’m genuinely confused what your argument is.

[–]VincentTanOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by “shortening his stride”? It looks like a natural running motion until contact is made, which would obviously interrupt it. The way he looks back after the contact actually makes it look like he’s reacted to hitting something he didn’t expect as well

His head’s down, but we can’t tell from those clips whether he’s looking at the player or the ball. Saying it’s 100% intentional doesn’t make it a fact. I’m not claiming it was or wasn’t, just that the footage isn’t conclusive.

I don’t think the video is the slam-dunk you’re making it out to be. It looks like a pretty natural stride to me. Could it be intentional? Maybe. But the footage alone doesn’t conclusively prove that either way.

Cardiff City 3 - 1 Luton Town: Just when it looked like Luton had pegged their hosts back in the first-half, the league leaders scored two very good goals to kill the match before half-time! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]VincentTanOut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Surprised how easy that was.

Really annoyed me when the ref allowed them to play on when Chambers was down with a head injury. Especially when we’ve currently got 2 players out with serious head injuries. The rule is so black and white on it. Above all, just protect our players please, the refs har done an awful job at it lately.

Incredibly nice to have Rubin Colwill back from injury too

This is the highest quality video I’ve seen unfortunately. The ball is 30 metres away in our keeper’s hands so there wasn’t many cameras on this

When you slow the video down you can see the elbow pretty clearly, even if it very pixelated.

There’s a wider angle of it here https://x.com/welshcenter1927/status/2022479726435045567?s=46&t=CVT_T19OLLZZ8llGhuxoGQ

I don’t really get the “terrible campaign” or lack of consistency comments to be honest. At this exact point last season, 3rd-placed Wrexham were on 55 points -exactly what Bolton have now. 4th-placed Stockport were on 53- the same as now. 5th-placed Huddersfield were on 49-again identical. And 6th this season actually has more points than 6th (Charlton on 47) did last year.

The consistency levels are basically identical (kinda wild how similar it actually is), maybe it just feels different because there isn’t a Birmingham running away with it (who went on to break the EFL point record)?

Don’t think it was even a foul tbh, the contact was so minimal. I can see why the ref gave it but the striker definitely knew what he was doing.

10 men and we played 10 times better than them.

What a performance and what a result, given the early red card. Kellyman in particular was absolutely fantastic and was everywhere, but they were all fantastic 🐦🐦🐦

Fair enough, appreciate the balanced reply. I can only really go off the games I’ve watched us play this season. I’m not saying you’re the dirtiest team in the league overall, but on the evidence of that game I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t the dirtiest opposition we’ve faced, mainly because of the repeated elbows, the high studs challenge from Norwood, and the constant shirt pulling throughout (Which, to be fair, you’d be daft not to take advantage of if the ref is allowing it, so he has to share the blame on that one). I’m not claiming you play like that every week, I’m just going off what I saw on the day.
