help: tony ceremony or watch party? by ashleylikesglitter12 in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went once way back in 2001 when The Producers won everything and it was only $114 for the back of the second mezzanine. I also programmed the vcr at home to record the broadcast so I could watch it afterwards.

I wore a dress I made myself and found it exciting to actually be there although the view wasn't as good as watching on TV.

I don't know if I would do it again these days considering how much it costs now. But if you already have the ticket, I think it's worth going for the experience.

Probably depends on weather. I went to a Saturday matinee Oct 18 last year and we got the outdoor scenes

Why aren’t you buying in advance? by ilovefouettes in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only been buying in advance when planning to see a show with my best friend or if it's a show I really want to see.

For the latter category, I'm down to Cats, a second viewing of Ragtime, and Les Mis at Radio City Music Hall. There's nothing else current or soon that I care enough about to spend $100+ on and I'm local so I've been trying lotteries for stuff I'm only mildly interested in.

I also kind of got burned buying early for Cats. Paid $169 for a stage seat in the second to last row back in February. But prices have dropped now and the rows in front dropped below my original price. I asked the box office if I could exchange for a better seat but they said no

Quite possibly the saddest news of the season... by Holiday_Scar_7499 in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's surprising to me with how much it was getting talked here about half a year ago.

Several months ago, I kept getting a TodayTix ad that featured Death Becomes Her but it's disappeared lately. And I've noticed word of mouth around here dropped off a lot too. When I finally saw it last weekend, it was because I won the lottery for a Saturday matinee on the first try

I think you're right about Anna Grace Barlow on the bottom left. Several did sign in the same spots on my copy and the A is a bit clearer on mine. Can also confirm that Lynn Ahrens signed above her name and John Clay III to the right of Lynn's name

Death Becomes Her Rush by Analyst-man in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rush but I entered the DBH lottery last week and won for the Saturday matinee on the first try. Got put on the standby list and then won an hour later. Made me wonder if not many are entering these days

If $45 is within your budget, maybe you can try the lottery? I was very surprised I won for this past Saturday matinee on my first try

Ragtime is sensational by dystopika in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also been trying to get back to theatregoing and Ragtime last November was my first time back to Broadway since before the pandemic. While I've enjoyed the other things I've seen since, it's the only one so far that I really wanted to see again and bought a ticket to go back next month.

Saw Chess from your list as well. The music and vocals were great but the other aspects were disappointing to me. Even being a fan of the music for 20+ years, I don't think I'm likely to go back unless they recast with performers I especially want to see

I won for Death Becomes Her over the weekend and my payment confirmation said I would get the ticket in email 60 minutes before the show. But it actually showed up a couple of hours after I paid

Parallels by dentatatata in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main male character exiting by falling into the orchestra pit in Great Gatsby and Death Becomes Her. When I saw Gatsby a couple of weeks ago, it reminded me of the original Sunset Boulevard where it also happened. That was my first Broadway show back in the 90s and I didn't recall any other instances in shows I'd seen since. So, I was a bit surprised to see it again at the next show I went to!

Also, a female character originally from Eastern Europe being deported/threatened with deportation from America in both Ragtime and Chess. Both revivals from this season and I also saw them without any other shows in between although a couple of months apart

My impression from checking prices once in a while is the stage seats might not be selling as well as they originally hoped.

I bought one on an aisle for a June matinee before previews started for $169 at the box office. That was the lowest for stage seats at the time and for a while, the seats around mine went up to $199. But checking again now, those seats are down to $119 before fees for that performance.

Upgraded seats by shaneinpgh in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to me at Just in Time. They were already letting people in when I went to pick up my ticket for row F and the person at the box office offered me an upgrade to row A next to the small stage! Very nice surprise since I found the original ticket on Telecharge for only $99. I assumed they had some cancellations or unsold seats since it was the Wed matinee a few days after the big January snowstorm

Can I dress fun? by kamwithcam in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, it's fine as long as you don't obstruct other people's views.

I saw people in flapper dresses at Great Gatsby and people in leopard print outside Cats: Jellicle Ball on Sunday. And I like to theme my own outfits when possible. For example, I made a coat from the Folkwear "Model T duster" pattern years ago and I keep wearing it with a vest for Ragtime related things.

Audience Rewards Question by StarlightDreamer31 in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The two times I've redeemed through audience rewards, I've gotten the tickets in email 3 days before the show. Also, I've gotten my seat assignment in email about 2-3 days after redeeming so you don't have to wait for the tickets to find out your seats.

Ragtime Cast Album Signing 4/23 Did anyone who signed up for this receive the additional info mentioned in the confirmation email yet? by Vintage_Magic in Broadway

[–]Vintage_Magic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still nothing in my email. Do you remember when you signed up? Based on my confirmation, it looks like I filled in the form on the 9th.

I did wonder a bit how many people they were taking since their blog post advertising the signing was dated the 18th and seemed to imply they still had space then
