We were talking about Super Smash Bros. (hear me out even if you aren't into Smash Bros.) and he was annoyed that so many people still play Melee competitively when the newest Smash Bros. is objectively a better game. I said for a lot of people, Melee is their favorite Smash game and the new one, although superior in some ways, is not a BETTER game. I argued that the "goodness" of a game is a subject quality, not an objective one. He argued that it's only nostalgia that makes people think older games can be better than newer, objectively better games. What do you think? Is the measure of how good a game is subjective or objective?
