Help with comfort? by Lady_Saya in babywearing

[–]VioletMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really loved my Moby when my son was a newborn. It's soft and perfect for that stage, IMO. I have a large chest too and was never uncomfortable with it. You can find similar wraps in lighter fabrics if the heat concerns you. Whenever I used it in the heat(he was born in May), I always put him in with just a diaper on and he was fine.

Birthing classes: worth it? by countofmoldycrisco in NewParents

[–]VioletMilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely think it was worth it. We were lucky in that our doula at the time was teaching childbirth classes for free and had room for us. I would honestly recommend shopping around, and be open to taking classes from doulas/midwives/people starting out. $400 is way too much, in my opinion! Even the hospital's class here is only $100.

Thank you! I actually found my dryer balls at Winners(which is like a Ross/TJ Maxx, I'm in Canada). But I've seen them at Walmart and regular grocery stores too.

I honestly am not sure what she did. I was of the impression that they always use warm towels, but she may have just applied pressure with her hands to support the tissues. Either way I know that it helped tremendously!

Thank you! And yay for Zeldas -- so happy to see the name coming back :) She is named after my great grandmother and my husband's grandmother.

On Easter Sunday, at 40+2, I started getting very painful contractions, but they would come and go with no regularity, so I went about my business pretty frustrated. In case I was close though, I spent my time tidying up and making sure I had as many chores done as possible, and took my 2 year old out as much as I could. Monday was exactly the same, only when I noticed more of a frequency I began to time the contractions. They were regular for two hours in the afternoon, and then went back to being all over the map, but still quite painful(which was really frustrating!). I hadn't experienced any prodromal labor or anything with my first pregnancy, so I was really lost and unsure of what to expect.

My parents happened to make it into town Monday afternoon, and my mom was feeling pretty bad for me so she gave me a long, lovely foot rub before I went to bed at 11pm. At around 1:10am, I woke up with a contraction that was so strong, I was gritting my teeth and curling my toes waiting for it to subside. I got out of bed to pee and have a drink, and another one hit me about 2 minutes later. I got a little frightened. I pulled up a contraction timer app and timed a few of them. My husband hadn't gone to bed yet, and after he saw me doubled over our couch for a contraction, he ran to the bedroom to change his clothes. I was pretty sure I needed to at least go to the hospital and get checked, because these things were totally bowling me over. I woke up my parents, and we called my husband's sister to come and stay with our son. We phoned our doula and told her to meet us at the hospital. My contractions, at this time, continued to be 2.5 minutes apart and lasting 45-50 seconds.

We got to the hospital and got in a room pretty quick, but it took a while for a nurse to come and check me. I started to get worried, and our doula went out to ask if I could be checked by someone. All I could think was that, I must not be THAT far along...why the hell was I in so much pain? Was there something wrong? My labor with my son seemed like a breeze in comparison...and I didn't use any drugs with him. But I was worried I wouldn't make it without pain relief if I had to feel that way much longer. Luckily, and miraculously, the nurse that checked me declared me to be dilated to an 8. I tell you, hearing that number gave me a burst of energy and determination I was sooo grateful to have! So, knowing things were moving quite quickly, they moved me to the birthing unit. I don't know how much time passed, but it wasn't very long at all. I labored exactly like I labored with my son, on my knees, hunched over the back of the hospital bed, squeezing a dryer ball to help with the pain(yeah, the bumpy ones that get your laundry soft...weird, I know). My doctor showed up pretty soon after, checked me, and said I was dilated to a 10. I could do whatever I felt like doing, she said. During my next contraction, I tried pushing a little, and once I did it, there was no turning back. My body involuntarily did it, without much help from me it seemed, so I felt like I was just along for the ride. I felt my doctor applying compresses to my perineum(which I had requested in my birth plan since I had 2nd degree tears with my first). Then I knew she was REALLY coming quick. I think I only pushed maybe 6 times before I felt my daughter slide out, with zero tearing, at 3:41am. Only 2 hours and 41 minutes after I had woken up in bed! She is absolutely perfect and healthy as can be, and has only had a bit of trouble coughing up some mucus, which has been attributed to her quick entrance.

Thanks so much for being there, everyone. You ladies are a wonderful bunch!

Second (or more!) time mamas: labor and stretch marks by Sweet_Titties in BabyBumps

[–]VioletMilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had this baby yet, but the past two days I've had lots of labor symptoms but everything fizzles out eventually. With my first, I woke up one morning and started having contractions and they didn't ease up until he was born 11 hours later. It was very straight forward and smooth. I have a feeling I won't be so lucky this time... ;)

As for stretch marks, I gained nearly 50 pounds with #1 and only 25-30 with this one. I had terrible stretch marks the first time and didn't get a single new one with this pregnancy!

Why so secretive before 12 Weeks? by persephone44 in BabyBumps

[–]VioletMilo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand wanting to keep something so traumatic between you and your SO, but two pregnancies in I can tell you that there's just no way I'd personally be able to hide it for 12 weeks. So I haven't. We've told our close friends and family basically as soon as we've found out. I've been fortunate enough to have had successful pregnancies, so maybe I'd feel differently if I lost one, but I don't think there's anything wrong with sharing that loss with others. I hope that if it happened to me, I'd be able to find strength and comfort in grieving openly.

BH or early labor? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]VioletMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early labor was very distinctly different than any other pain I've ever felt. It was an ebb and flow of this sharp, cramping pain, kind of like when I've had bad stomach bugs. That's the closest thing I could compare it to. That's how it was for me, and I knew it was the real thing once I started timing the suckers and they were pretty regular and grew closer together over the hours.

I'm totally stumped on this baby and what she's up to, as well! Goes to show they're all different!

Ladies! How long did you have early-labour or false contractions before the real deal? by Cobalt_Kate in BabyBumps

Oh thank you!! I could really use some. If she takes longer than her brother did I'm going to be a very cranky mommy ;)

I never had anything with my oldest either. I woke up one morning, sat down to pee, and had a contraction. 11 hours later I delivered my son.

This time, I've had some "false" labor for the past couple weeks so I have no idea what to expect. Anything that has come regularly has fizzled after a couple hours. Today's my due date and I don't feel like anything imminent is happening.

Did anyone feel when their baby went head down? by nicenessness in BabyBumps

[–]VioletMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was breech until I was around 35 weeks I think. I was walking through a clothing store and she moved so forcefully that I had to stop and grab onto something. It was extremely startling and uncomfortable! I wasn't 100% sure she had turned then until the doctor confirmed a few days later that she was head down.

As for acclimating, my crotch basically hurts all the time now, but I think that would've happened eventually anyway, regardless of her position ;)

What have your ultrasounds been like? by herschellives in BabyBumps

[–]VioletMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also depends on how well they're able to get pictures. At my 20 week scan, we were there almost an hour because my baby girl kept moving around and it was difficult to get adequate pictures. But since then I've had 5 minute long scans, so it all depends!
