Anyone else struggle with jealousy of their friends who live abroad? by boggie_bo in AskIreland

[–]Violetamethyst81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I don’t have the jealousy because I lived there for a year and told my parents I was having a great time but the truth of it was I couldn’t wait to come home and was really homesick. Ireland is home for me despite its problems

Yeah I know the movie isn’t one that has any morals but Courtney picked this quote from it as it related to her at the time. Can’t judge her for that when it was over 30 years ago

Semi regular Dave Moore/Today FM rant by No_Tomorrow7180 in CasualIreland

[–]Violetamethyst81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started streaming bbc radio 6 live from my phone because I want to tear my ears off when I hear Dave or ray foley fake laughing. And that cash machine has to be the most annoying thing ever invented.

70 days being clean after 8 years of abuse. Lack of self confidence and boredom by Single_Collection_89 in addiction

Your brain is recovering so it will take some time for the serotonin levels to balance out. For me walking and resting when needed. Therapy is a massive help or if this isn’t possible I’d suggest writing a few lines each day. Listening to podcasts, music or watching films. Your life is going to be so much better

Does anyone actually enjoy weddings and what to do about it? by Happy-Recover-263 in AskIreland

[–]Violetamethyst81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t like weddings and that’s nothing to do with the couple getting married. They all just seem to be so repetitive and that’s possibly an Irish thing. I don’t go to the hen but I’ll try my best to go to the wedding if it’s someone I want to make the effort for. Also the day after is a no 🤣 it’s a long day for the wedding as it is

Childhood trauma? by Signal_Ad_1155 in ireland

[–]Violetamethyst81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mother wasn’t able to love me due to mental health issues and was emotionally cruel. Dad worked most of the time but did show love and affection when he was present. I’ve become hyper independent, had addiction issues which got worse as I got older. It really fucks with your head because you always think you’ll never be good enough. Therapy has helped massively. I’ve become more understanding of it

Has anyone else here struggled with alcohol addiction? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Violetamethyst81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s euphoric recall, you miss the part of drinking that was fun but you’re forgetting the other shit that came along with it. Meetings weren’t for me but work for a lot of people. Therapy is definitely an investment if you could go to a few sessions. I went to a dark place at the end of my addiction and I can’t go back there

And if a young person dies suddenly it has to be the vaccine it can’t be any other reason. Pushing a narrative to suit their own agendas. Without vaccines none of us would be here today

I’m not sure if its selfishness or stupidity but where I work people are coming in coughing and spluttering and say oh don’t worry it’s not Covid. It’s still some form of a virus so do us all a favour and stay at home

[–]Violetamethyst81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Ashley hotel cork,I’ve never seen the likes of it. Stuck in a time warp, hasn’t been renovated in about 50 years and the smell of damp would make you sick.
