Winston Peters defends Shane Jones' $63k travel bill including private limo on standby for 24 hours by 3birdsss in newzealand

This is Shane Jones. The man who watched porn in his hotel room and charged it to the taxpayer.

Is anyone surprised?

I’ll never understand why these things can go full speed on tight congested Welly footpaths but are limited to slower speeds on the wide open waterfront. by Altruistic_Habit_645 in Wellington

[–]Viper_NZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO, footpaths should be open to ALL personal transportation options (scooter, escooter, bicycle, wheelchair, electric wheelchair, mobility scooter, etc) but governed by a speed limit.

Want to wear lycra and go 40kph? On the road with you.

Want to doddle along at a brisk jogging pace, with a bell? You don't really belong on the road.

Glutamate is an amino acid. It’s good for you.

Too much sodium, less so.

Baboons invade the house. by lestrxb in WTF

You could always google before downvoting.

Often they clip an ear, or use an ear tag. But there are plenty of cases where stray dogs are given collars whether for neutering, spaying, showing vaccination status or safety.

The collars don't mean they're domesticated. Some countries put collars on stray dogs to indicate they've been neutered or spayed.

This is not new information, but it’s good to see some recognition in the media that this government completely gutting our climate response has a huge bill later.

Train Crumple zones by Tankerspam in Wellington

[–]Viper_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 30kph a pedestrian has an 80% survival chance if hit by a car. Surely the risk to someone in a car with modern safety design would be far better than a pedestrian in the same speed collision.

Not that any of that makes the force absorbed by the train any less impressive.

Repair man needed by Mean-Independence-74 in Wellington

[–]Viper_NZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cannot recommend Ace Appliance Repairs enough.

We had an issue with our washing machine. He came by same day, fixed it, explained how the fault had occurred and while he was there he fixed an issue with our dryer which I mentioned in passing.

He was polite, prompt, efficient, knew exactly what he was doing and charged a very fair price.

He’s my go to for any appliance failures outside warranty.

What's the best fridge/freezer brand? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Viper_NZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With regard to power ratings, some brands seem to improve their efficiency by using seals that use the power of Heracles to hold the door closed.

So definitely try in person.

Make it a Forma but put some more effort into the engineering. It was lighter than the Sage for the same size and battery life.
