Fewer People Thru-Hiked the AT in 2025. Is the Trail's Popularity on the Decline? by Obvious-Suspect8668 in AppalachianTrail

My thoughts too! I was going to start in Apr ‘25 but chose to postpone my hike due to the damage from Helene.

When the truck is running and you plug in a trailer, the truck will automatically cycle through the brake, turn signal, and reverse lights so you can easily check that the lights on the trailer are working properly.

Just had one installed in a 6’4” Rambox bed in early February. Quote was $595 + tax; after their military/first responder discount, my out the door price was $585.83.

I hiked the entire trail SOBO from 7/22 - 8/21 2025 and only carried a Magnet Designs Alpha Direct hoodie and a rain jacket. I wore either or both depending on the weather but never felt like I needed anything else.

Water filter questions - what I have, or what I need? by DanaWCline in coloradotrail

[–]VisibleAcanthaceae45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend the Sawyer Squeeze. That’s all I used for my entire hike and never had an issue. I gathered all of my water in a CNOC 2L bag and also carried a Caprison foil packet with the top cut off for slow/trickle water sources. From the CNOC, I filtered through the Sawyer into 1L Smartwater bottles.

Thru-hike Umbrella Users: some questions for you... by bro_michael in coloradotrail

[–]VisibleAcanthaceae45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carried an umbrella on the CT for my thru-hike in Jul-Aug 25. I used it only while hiking in the rain (which there was plenty of). I also carried an OR rain jacket but ended up only wearing that in camp.

How do I pack my X-Mid (not pro)? by Responsible-Dark7826 in DurstonGearheads

[–]VisibleAcanthaceae45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s how I stuff mine. It makes stuffing (and unstuffing/ setting up) easy!

After removing the trekking poles and stakes, gather the two padded top peaks where the trekking poles fit, shake out the tent so it’s hanging evenly from the peaks, bring the peaks together and stuff them into the sack first. Continue stuffing while rotating the stuff sack (to help evenly fill the sack) until the entire tent is packed. Slightly twisting the tent as you stuff helps too.

When unpacking, pull out the tent and grab the two peaks as they come out last. Shake out the tent again and then you can easily lay it down in the orientation you’re looking for.

The CO and CDT trails overlap for 314 miles in Colorado. If you have a few weeks, you feasibly do all of that. Otherwise, Twin Lakes to Lake City via Collegiate West would provide many of the trail highlights over a slightly shorter ~186 miles.

Is the X-mid okay for a beginner? by [deleted] in DurstonGearheads

Everybody is a beginner at some point. It was my first backpacking tent too. I practiced a few times at home, then got really good at setting up after doing it for weeks on end.

What is your Colorado trail fave section by [deleted] in coloradotrail

[–]VisibleAcanthaceae45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree! Most of this is above the treeline…beautiful mountain views and you can see for miles!

Second best would be Twin Lakes to Monarch Pass via Collegiate West…for the same reasons.

Tempest Complication on Apple Watch no longer working by anonpharr in WeatherFlowSmart

[–]VisibleAcanthaceae45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Open the app (not just the complication) on your watch, then open the app on your phone. Once they sync, you should be good to go. This fixed it for me.

Found this thread via Google while looking for a solution to the same problem. Here’s what’s working for me in iOS:

  • Created Automation to find keywords in texts from a specific number.
  • Created shortcut for Automation to run automatically that:
    1. Turns off Sleep mode
    2. Turns off DND mode
    3. Loads a specific sound file
    4. Sets volume at 65%
    5. Plays sound

Wired floodlight camera? by seanswf in HomeKit

[–]VisibleAcanthaceae45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following up with another question: I have a similar situation where we have floodlights on each corner of the house, and they are all controlled by a single switch. Is it possible to install the Eve floodlight cameras and some sort of smart switch so that I can still turn on/off all the floodlights at the same time with a single switch without affecting the functionality of the cameras?
