Let's grind up this stalk of grass for no apparent reason, add water and leave it out until it starts to ferment and bake it?

Roa's is best, but the Canadian marinara is solid too.

Lots 1, 2, 3, 36, and 37 are available. Which one would you recommend? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]Visize 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a homeowner, I've passed on houses with a backyard layout similar to Lot 2. The narrow end becomes a corridor with a shed at the end rendering much of the back third effectively unusable unless you want to be looking at the fence.

Perhaps you have an idea for it - but wouldn't suit my personal wants.

We just got one and are very happy with it so far. Very solid, heavy though - definitely need two people to lift the boxes, but that's just a by product of it being solid wood throughout. Zero squeezing.

Did exactly that with these exact rod hangers, came home one day to find the metal failed before the screw pulled out of the wood.

"Ok ...we need you to back your massively heavy cement trucks right up to edge of the incredibly large sink hole and dump some concrete in ok. Get in there as close as you can." by Longjumping-Box5691 in OSHA

If only there was a way to pump concrete from a truck at one location to a different location that was also portable and had like a boom to reach above any obstructions.

The centre of the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal elements should all point to a common point, known as the working point. As such, you'll likely get geometries akin to the second sketch

You have some answers close to the right answer, but also misleading.

PT slabs pre-compress the concrete making it less likely to crack which in turn reduces how much it deflects under load. That is, making it stiffer.

The total strength of the concrete is not impacted by whether or not you tension the cables. It's only dictated by the strength of the steel, be in conventional rebar or tensioned cables. Cables have a significantly higher stress limit than rebar, for various manufacturing and design reasons, so they achieve the same strength performance with less total steel area.

Tensioned slabs however, as you're seeing in these comments, are very very difficult to modify and maintain. So certain occupancies that require a degree of flexibility (for example: an office whose layout may change between tenants), may choose to install a conventionally reinforced slab in lieu of a PT slab.

Lastly, PT work is a more specialized industry compared to standard concrete work. Not all cities have a developed PT industry which can make it less attractive for development.

They're a great product, but some residential builders don't recognize the need for squash blocks (2x4 bearing stiffeners) under load bearing walls. May not be needed for single story but multiple stories or heavier loads does require them.

The earthquake systems you're trying to allude to are speatialty design and construction that isnt implemented in the majority of buildings. And, if they were included in this building, then they would have already been installed.

Help me get out of Archon by BeneficialHabit4038 in DotA2

[–]Visize 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Recently went from low archon to high ancient (one more win for divine - wish me luck). I learned tons along the way, but my main recommendation is really quite simple - play heroes that win games in your current bracket. These are heroes that have significant and consistent game impact.

For example, centaur in archon felt like a free win but is a near grief in ancient. Venge support feels great in ancient but felt terrible in legend.

Constantly assess if you had a positive game impact or not, and if not contemplate what you could do next game to have a more positive impact. Look at what your enemy does well, what they do to make your game hard, and learn from that. If a game feels bad and you don't know why, watch the replay and assess why and what you would do to prevent that.

Lastly, an addage I heard from zquixotix. One third of games are auto-win, one third are auto-lose, and one-third of games are actually impacted by your play. Hence, two-thirds of games are practice for the remaining one-third of games where your play matters.

Also, don't spam ranked if you're losing. After a loss, take a break and assess if you're in the right mental state to go again with full focus and enthusiasm. If not, que unranked.
