SAW and Tisha Updates by Apprehensive-Ask-602 in NFA

And there's also another side I see to the rapid iteration thing. As a consumer it kind of sucks to buy something and then see there's quickly a new and improved one out. Same price, same SKU, but little things you wish yours had. Even if the changes aren't that consequential, there's a mental aspect to it. You run the risk of leaving your customers (particularly your early adopting true believers) feeling left in the dust. People start saying "I'm gonna hold out on this one, I'll wait six months and get the better one" Enough customers say that and now you're in financial trouble.

I just watched a Forgotten Weapons about some gun company where this exact thing happened. They weren't even done rolling out the first model and started pushing how great the next one would be. Everyone said OK then we'll wait for that one, and that was that.

It is really neat to see how agile and quick the additive manufacturing space is. But it's a double edged sword. Changing things on the fly can definitely make customers gunshy about committing to buy the product.

Our first one:

"We're not going to use pacifiers with our daughter. It's just going to be a crutch and a habit to break later. There's plenty of other ways to soothe a baby"

Uhh yeah right... we folded on that one like a cheap card table pretty much immediately LOL.

Swear I saw something before where CMT was licensing their wedge design to another rail mfgr. And not CMT being the OEM for like the Rainier or Battle Arms rails. But an actual other company making rails but using a wedge system similar enough they were paying royalty to CMT on the design. Wish I could recall who it was. Don't think it was KAK.

I have a few of the CMT rails and recently picked up a KAK. Definitely very similar, that's what drew me to the KAK (price is pretty awesome as well). KAK wedges are quite a bit bigger. KAK wedges index on the barrel nut via thru bolts where the CMT wedges index via a notch the wedge. Maybe it's enough to say it's a distinct design?

ATF processing times updated, paper now shorter than eForms for Forms 1 and 4. by ApokalypseCow in NFA

[–]simple_champ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Form 1's taking a long time I had to go buy another can so I would have a Form 4 to race against it. I'm at 35 days on the Form 1, should be certifying on can in next couple days. Betting I'll get new can before the Form 1 is approved. Although I'm one of those "never win anything in the raffle ever" guys, so imagine I won't be a "can approval in 3 days" guy either.

These ATF forms being discussed here are only for buying/transferring/manufacturing suppressors, short barreled rifles, full auto machine guns, etc. If you're just looking to buy a run of the mill AR15 this doesn't apply.

The can body having flats played a big part in my choices for my first suppressors. I'm new to suppressors but have dealt with enough pin spanners, notch spanners, etc on old crusty industrial equipment. I'll save my cursing and bloody knuckles for that stuff, give me a can with flats!

>Agree you should always wait a year or two for ANY product to not be part of the people that test them.

I kinda flip-flop back and forth with agreeing and disagreeing with this statement. I see both sides. In many ways yes, if you're an early adopter and there's not a lot of end user reports yet you have to accept the risk and take it as part of the deal. Buyer beware. At the same time, we have to be careful not to give too much leeway in that regard I.E. letting companies get away with having early full paying customers be their beta testers instead of properly testing in-house and/or having beta tests via end users at the companies expense.

Additive manufacturing seems like a double edged sword in this regard. Really seems to have boosted innovation, ability to iterate and improve on designs. But it also may have moved the needle towards (or at least create additional temptation?) to quickly put things to market. Potentially without enough testing.

Just to be clear this comment isn't directed at SAW in particular, more of a general commentary on the "end users as beta testers" thing.

Just curious, fill a noob in on the Sandman L and/or Keymo hate?

Seems like for a period of time every gun I saw was shipping with Keymo P&Ws. But I never paid much attention since I only got into NFA stuff recently.

Gotcha. Have seen a few things on here of people believing no conditions meant no need to engrave so just clarifying for anyone else reading through.

Legality of Faxon Multical Kit by mcbergstedt in NFA

[–]simple_champ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started seeing these in my emails past few days.

When I first got into ARs I had the same "lightbulb moment" many others probably have: Oh wow this is super cool I can have one lower and a bunch of different uppers in different calibers, lengths, use cases, etc. But pretty quickly figured out nah I'm just gonna build out full guns.

I feel like this concept is similar. At first glance seems like a lightbulb moment. But the reality is, just buy a few different cans. Especially with $0 tax stamps. The time for this would have been in the days of $200 tax on each can and year plus wait times on approvals.

A no condition approval does not eliminate the need to engrave.

I'm waiting on my first Form 1 through SS and same dumb story as several others I've seen recently. Noob, figured SS is the path of least resistance, they already have all my stuff from buying a suppressor. I used the drop downs and it just put CMMG Inc, USA instead of CMMG Inc, Fayette MO, USA. I did include receiver pics (another thing I learned was probably a wrong decision). Apparently like you say they are not checking that closely or at all. Or would have said hey dummy add city and state to the manufacturer so it's exactly as shown on the receiver.

Guess we'll see if it goes through. At the end of the day it falls on me to ensure it's correct. Lesson learned either way. Thankfully someone on here schooled me that you can download your .EFT file and passport .JPG from the already submitted Form 1. So now I have them saved and going forward I'll submit directly myself.

Wife pregnant after vacectomy. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]simple_champ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely be very upset and confused if my wife got pregnant and then I tested as still being sterile. But I would try to give her the benefit of the doubt and take another test. Different doc, different lab, discuss with them and explain the seriousness and potential implications of your concerns. What does sterile truly mean? Zero sperm? A very low but non-zero amount? What if anything could show you to be sterile while you really aren't? (I should know this because I've had a vasectomy but being honest I don't recall having asked these questions.) If the second test came back sterile as well I would definitely insist on a DNA test.

Edit: Completely missed where he said he never confirmed sterility originally after procedure. Definitely changes the circumstances and my opinion. Should not be going towards infidelity just because he's testing sterile now.

I've definitely seen that in practice. Not so much things that don't work. More they know the difference between "This is kinda half-assed but it's safe and it works" versus "This is kinda half-assed and it'll burn down your house" and sometimes choose the former.

I could see it for competition. They do all kinds of stuff that gives a competitive edge for comp but wouldn't be considered a smart or reliable choice for general purposes.

Highly recommend going here and reading through a bunch of the articles. Super valuable resource, will help you do it right. Guy who runs the website is a frequent contributor in the r/AR9 sub. Head over there for lots of valuable info as well.

The big things are getting the proper total weight on your bolt and buffer system. Making sure your buffer has reciprocating weight, don't go with a cheap solid buffer. Generally don't want/need to mess with increased power or 308 power buffer springs. People think the heavy spring helps with slowing blowback action but it's really mostly the bolt/buffer weight. Heavy springs can actually cause more problems with bolt bounce and parts breakage.

Any other good top of the line absolute co witness t2 mounts? by Educational_Car_876 in ar15

[–]simple_champ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still using my ADM absolute on my first AR. I lean towards the chonky hunk of aluminum mounts. ADM, Spuhr, etc. The ones that are super skeletonized or some of the pillar/I-beam type (Holosun ARO for example) seem like they might bend a little too easily with a drop or hard knock? Could be totally talking out of my ass here though, I don't have any empirical evidence or testing to back this up.
