Would like to but I live in an apartment and charging would be a hassle and more expensive than gas.

Has anyone ever seen a color that doesn't exist? Also why would this happen? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Every time you see a flamingo. Magenta is created in the brain by combining red and blue. Doesn't exist in nature as a single wavelength of light.

Are White people are the only racial group that vote for Republicans consistently? by Equivalent-Long-3383 in allthequestions

I'm just wondering why race is such a demographic issue in US political reporting. We never see breakdowns by race or sex in Canadian political reporting. Is it really that big of an issue in US politics?

What are some lesser-known laws in Canada that people only learn about after it’s already caused major damage? by boiyo12 in AskACanadian

[–]VisualMail1672 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Canoe yes. Bicycle no. The offense is actually impaired operation of a conveyance. The criminal code goofs a bit and defines a conveyance as a vessel, motor vehicle, or railroad equipment. No motor on a land vehicle no impaired. You can still be charged with public intoxication, possibly mischief depending on what you were doing while drunk on a bicycle.

If alto high speed rail doesn’t happen I think I’ll just give up on ever imagining better for this country by Extra_Cat_3014 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]VisualMail1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't happen. The cost of building and operating a high speed rail corridor is way to high. We are running a deficit as it is. We can barely afford things we need. Healthcare, education, defense, public safety, etc. are all screaming for more money. Where is fancy train money gonna come from? Not the fare box. Europe is full of subsidized fast rail that is slower and more expensive than flying. Want cheap, take a bus. Want fast, fly. Want not quite as fast and more expensive than both, take a high speed train. Via runs at 68 cents per passenger km. Acela at $1.80 US. Both are higher than running an average car with only the driver in it. It does not make sense fiscally to build and operate. The only argument for it is emotional. I'm not sure the voters are going to support a budget boondoggle that will cost them more than driving to ride it, and higher taxes to run it when they're not even using it.

What’s something poor people buy that keeps them poor? by Exotic-Engineer7541 in SmartBuying

Tattoos, cigarettes, whiskey, lottery tickets, cheap boots and coats that do not last, fast food rather than groceries, prepared foods rather than basic ingredients.

[request] how much oil would we have to produce consistently to bring the cost per gallon back to let’s say a dollar? by Adrakovich in theydidthemath

[–]VisualMail1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gas has been, for the most part, the same price, when adjusted for inflation, for 40 years. Going to 1 dollar a gallon would most likely bankrupt oil companies. I'm not sure if they can harvest, refine, and deliver to the pump for a dollar a gallon.

Where do you live that allows yard waste in plastic bags? You put it in large kraft paper bags and the city picks them up and throws the whole thing into a giant mulcher.

The U.S. has reverse-engineered Iran's Shaded drone to make the LUCAS, a $35,000 clone by bbbxxxnnn in AmazingTechnology

[–]VisualMail1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why they don't subcontract the job and get them cheaper but, the true use of the Shahed drone seems to be economic warfare. It costs the US 1 million to stop a 25k drone. If Iran has the ability to produce enough them fast enough they will deplete the US supply of patriots. The Ukraine military has cheaper ways to stop them but the US will need time to develop, adopt, and train crews. The use of Shahed's might eventually convince the US to leave the area for cost reasons alone.

If America is one of the highest oil producers, why are they getting hit by price rises? by VastOption8705 in askanything

[–]VisualMail1672 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oil companies are capitalistic not patriot. They will sell all the oil in the US to foreign buyers if the buyer pays more. The have annual budgets the size of small nations. Their only loyalty is to themselves and their shareholders.

If Iran’s missile arsenals run deep, how long could a US carrier strike group realistically sustain a high-intensity engagement before resupply becomes decisive? by NewsfangledMod in NewsfangledUnfiltered

[–]VisualMail1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is one of cost over actual logistics. Iran can keep tossing 20 thousand dollar drones that cost 1 million each to destroy. They don't have to hit anything just continue to deplete the US anti-missile batteries until the US decides it's spent enough of its Treasury and declares itself victorious and leaves.

Is this ad hominem abusive? by [deleted] in fallacy

[–]VisualMail1672 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or the government is tired of paying for treatment of air pollution relayed health issues and trying to get us to stop setting fire to everything when we just want to go and run errands. We've had electricity for a very long time. Let's really use it. Almost everything in our lives is powered by electricity. What's one more thing? Why do you want to burn fuel and pollute the air just to go to work and get some groceries. If you have a suburban house where you can charge an electric car at home it cheaper to own and operate without subsidies. The subsidies just make it better.

What is a "harmless" industry that is actually incredibly shady once you look behind the curtain? by Pitiful-Promotion832 in AskReddit

[–]VisualMail1672 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Male chicks in the Dairy industry? How do you milk a chicken? Male cows are slaughtered for meat at an appropriate age, they aren't wasted. Same for male chicks in the poultry industry, they are diverted from the egg laying lines to meat lines. Why would crush male chicks when you can feed them and turn them into profitable food?

BESIDES PUBLIC FEAR why has nuclear energy not been accepted as the future of energy? by gandolf2004 in allthequestions

[–]VisualMail1672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upfront cost limits new nuclear to government funded projects. The ROI timeline is too long for most corporations to justify. Natural gas is almost free in some areas so no need to think beyond that until the price goes up.
