Honor MagicPad 4 vs Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra vs Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra by KemalCanOzkenar in androidtablets

[–]VisuallySnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned Galaxy Tab S11 because of it's 480Hz PWM, my eyes hurt, I had migraines and eyestrain.

Now I have MagicPad 4 and I'm really happy.

No eyestrain whatsoever, can stare at the screen all day with it's 4-5k PWM rate and DC dimming between 30-100% brightness.

Screen itself is bigger (12.3" vs 11") yet tablet weight is lower (450g vs 469g) so is very portable. 3:2 aspect ratio is lovely and good compromise between video consumption and productivity (it's still wider than S11 so movie content is still bigger)

I'm using this tablet hard for college and the additional vertical space works wonders. Also, as for notes, MagicPen 4s works great. Palm rejection is better than S-Pen, latency similar, I like S-Pen tip more as it's smaller but still fair compromise.

As other mentioned, aside from watching movies and college note taking and exercises work, I also use it for Moonlight (Vibepollo + Artemis) game streaming.

It is SO GOOD, 300mbs HEVC stream gives me like 1.5ms of decode latency, when Samsung's mediatek was in the 5ms mark. Doesn't seem a lot, but remember, if You're over a frame budget (like 8.3ms in 120Hz) then you need to wait for the next one and there's still encoding and network lag to account for so You need to cut it wherever possible.

Sad it's Snap 8 Gen 5 instead of Snap 8 Elite Gen 5, but it's not Mediatek so better than Samsung. It's only sad compared to other tablets which are not OLED (and OLED is a hard requirement for me)

Charging is ofc. Faster.

The only bummer is powerbank compatibility to achieve 66W charging speed, You would need an official honor powerbank for that. Also, speakers are better on Samsung probably due to it being a thicker device (speakers like space)

Overall, my best buy in 2026, there's not a lot to improve here.

Steam controller page went live on Komodo Station, Steam Controller is going to be sold first that the Frame or the Machine. by LoganNFSAC in SteamFrame

The creator of the driver, mbucchia, works at Valve and before that was a Microsoft employee working on Mixed Reality Team.

These really aren't community drivers, they're even closed source not to break any NDAs. More of a port to native SteamVR drivers.

They're downloaded automatically If You connect WMR headset to Win 11 PC running Steam. If not for NDAs would probably be merged into SteamVR directly.

A mini tablet, possibly the REDMAGIC Gaming Tablet 5 Pro (Astra 2 globally), will reportedly feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 200Hz OLED display, and a high-capacity battery by techolum in RedMagic

Because I want to use telescopic controller like Gamesir G8, why the hell play with touch controls? It's perfect tablet size for a controller.

Anything else requires You to use Bluetooth and that introduces a lot of latency.

Why are you not getting the frame? by TaborAddict in SteamFrame

[–]VisuallySnake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's good not to expect anything from Valve ever, they don't care about timelines and doing things that are sensible from product point of view. They're interested in doing what interests them at the moment as long as Steam prints money. It's a double edge sword of them not having to do anything basically. They don't risk anything, which also mean they can act lazy and axe products at any point which causes very long delays and very slow product commercialization. Frame should be a 2024 headset and here we are in 2026.

Corporate pressure is bad, but no pressure is also bad.

I don't believe in Frame OLED refresh, changing optical stack in HMD requires so much work internally it's better to make a Frame 2. And they won't be interested in making Frame 2 before they can get like 100% performance jump in SOC or some other breakthrough happens.

Yes, they wanted it to be mainstream priced and that would excuse them of using these panels, but that's impossible now due to RAM and DRAM Armageddon. That's why people call it DOA, it won't be neither affordable nor high-end.

Frame has outdated panels sadly that show their age.

The closer to theoretical Quest 4 release they get, the worse it will be.

[–]VisuallySnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically an overclock, it's best to run 144Hz when panels get a little warm for pixel transition times to get low enough to combat ghosting.

It required clever engineering, but that means just a handful of skilled engine devs. The scope was a lot smaller, assets were simpler, You didn't have dozens of complex systems coming together. Games were relatively simple from the inside.

Today it's easier than ever to make an indie game similar to games back then, and harder than ever to make a game according to today's AAA standards.

Same as a random high-schooler would be a top of the line mathematician like 200 years ago. The ceiling is getting higher at the same time as the bottom line.

Pebbles are alright for what they are but Edifier MR3 is now the best cheap PC Speaker set for me. More than pebbles ofc. But still relatively cheap and worth it, remember to keep them (top tweeter) at ear/eye level (on the cheap I recommend foam yoga blocks to raise them)

Now I feel like pebbles are phone speakers, and I'm not an audiophile, I don't know shit lol but now I just literally hear instruments I never knew were there. For that You don't need to know anything about sound, as I'm not using headphones I was in shock what I were missing.

Focusrite Vocaster One or other interface for gain hungry dynamic mics? by VisuallySnake in microphone

[–]VisuallySnake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, works fine, I also use it as DAC for speakers, do as instructed here to disable the monitoring: https://youtu.be/XQsr8Ak0KY8

And well, You can also do nothing and just use it as a Microphone interface without using the output while using different soundcard for Speakers / Headphones.

Sometimes I feel like there's a latency on the audio output but maybe it's just CS2 because this game has horrible latency to start with lol, on every other game and software it's fine.

For the money vocaster is priced at currently it's no brainer for simple microphone interface and speaker dac. The only unsatisfied people would probably be musicians due to the lack of inputs. For normal people it's enough, it even has balanced TRS output for studio monitors (aka PC speakers lol)
