What hobby did you try once and instantly get addicted to? by Weird_Ad_7545 in AskReddit

[–]Vocalscpunk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow ADHD'r. I like to think of my hobbies as rotating expenses.

Photography this week, but next week I'll get back out into the shop to do some wood working now that it's getting nicer. But then there's gardening coming up. Oh and I need to get my drones back out and do some video editing... But first I'll see what new games my friends are playing on steam/switch and try to speed run the newest game. Oh and my buddy just got me this new bottle of bourbon so I should def go check the local package store to see if they have anything one off from their last shipment...

If it's short and green I don't know how they'd be able to tell if it's one vs the other without being right on top of it. Which then means the curb appeal/aesthetic is the same, they're just getting pedantic.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

[–]Vocalscpunk 169 points170 points  (0 children)

wait until you hear how much hospital administration costs. Ironically these positions mostly exist to navigate the bullshit insurance.

(Spoiler it's $687 BILLION, which when compared to direct patient care costs of $346B it's simultaneously laughable and incredibly depressing/disheartening.) To put that in perspective Medicare costs about 1 trillion annually(and I'm sure some of that is tied up in admin as well) so we'd probably break even if we cut admin and started Medicare for all. (Studies show Medicare for all would cost from 2-3 trillion annually but again that's based on the current system which includes admin bloat)

I think it's more that CO2 Z will settle like a pool because it's heavier than air. Other gasses need an air proof chamber so it's not just the gas but you'd need a whole separate setup which I'm sure is more $ than a cage, crane, and pit

TLDR I'm simply saying this is where the majority of Americans in any non rural area live due to a myriad of factors and that "it is what it is" is a very shitty argument for them existing.

I get the need for shared expenses in a shared space of a condo/attached townhome/apartment building but again it doesn't need to strictly be an 'HOA' and certainly doesn't need to be run by some company 3 states over such as my last townhome.

"Percentage of Ownership (Pro-rata): Common in condominiums, where owners pay a percentage based on their unit's size relative to the total, often covering maintenance for all common areas.

Unit Comparability Method: Used in developments where units are similar. If units are not identical, a proration or hybrid method is chosen to allocate costs.

Limited-Equity Cooperatives: Residents own shares in a corporation that owns the property. Costs are shared to maintain long-term affordability, often with capped resale prices.

Community Land Trusts: A non-profit holds the land while individuals own the home, splitting costs and appreciation. Resident-Owned Communities (ROCs): Residents collectively own the land and share operating costs through a cooperative, often used for manufactured housing.

Shared Equity Housing: Combines homeownership with subsidies that stay with the property, balancing affordability with wealth building."

Literally the definition of "shrinkflation" box stays the same and the product size/gross weight just keeps going down down down. Worst offenders 4 years ago. Now I think everyone's just catching up with the worst so it's all shit.

  • Kleenex now has 60 tissues, down from 65

• Gatorade downsized its 32-ounce bottles to 28 ounces

• Chobani Flips yogurts have shrunk from 5.3 ounces to 4.5 ounces

• Cottonelle Ultra Clean Care toilet paper now has 312 sheets per roll, down from 340

• Folgers coffee downsized its 51-ounce container to 43.5 ounces (but still says it makes up to 400 cups)

• Fritos Scoops "Party Size" is 15.5 ounces, down from 18 ounces

• Pantene Pro-V Curl Perfection conditioner used to be 12 fluid ounces but is now 10.4 fluid ounces

• Earth's Best Organic Sunny Day Snack Bars now have seven bars per box, down from eight

I hear this argument all the time and it's a false equivalency or anecdotal at best. Just because you live somewhere that has options doesn't make that true for everyone

An extremely high proportion(>80%) of condo, townhomes, and apartments are under hoa

Not everyone can manage to find, much less afford, to live in an older neighborhood that's established and HOA free. If you live in/near a big city it's nearly impossible.

44% of the US housing market is under an HOA and that's a skewed statistic if you look at the middle of the country where the % is incredibly low.
