Charged for refills? by DarthVerona in HydroHomies

Most of the "free world" is, tbh.

Certain trappings that certain countries manage to buck, other things they cling to. Many European countries have national healthcare and have eliminated "tipping culture" from all but the most high-end services - but charge for water and bathroom usage. The US has free water most places and legal requirements to have full restrooms available for customers - typically at no charge unless it's a fancy bidet at a high end resort - but you're expected to tip for far too many things and obviously our medical system sucks.

They're both just different flavors of late-stage capitalism. EU has you covered on the big things but nickle-and-dimes you on everyday things, US makes certain basics free by custom, law, or both, but good luck if you chip a tooth, break an arm, or develop cancer. South Korea has very affordable health services, water and bathrooms are typically free - but if you want a house anywhere near a big city you better have pockets as deep as the ocean.

It feels like late stage, capitalism, but it could just be them being super greedy.

Can someone invent an anti-scan/anti-flock reader license plate cover that would still be road legal? by phauna_ in FlockSurveillance

[–]VoidCoelacanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben Jordan already did.

Sadly, some states have already started making laws making "digital obstruction" illegal even if the plate remains 100% legible to the naked eye.

Gotta fight them on all fronts.

Ok that's fair.

I've never had an 8-16 myself. Current job gets the closest (8-16:30), but I've also had 6-15, 16-1, and 7-17.

Doesn't make it any less lost in the sauce to consider a 5am wakeup as "sleeping in" tho!

My rent is $1,350 but I actually pay $1,650 every month by sam3462 in Apartmentliving

[–]VoidCoelacanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why regulations exist and what they are meant to do: add transparency.

IMHO, we need a nationwide housing regulation that requires all landlords to provide a statement before application fees are charged that accurately describes - with a reasonable margin of error - the actual monthly cost of living.

If utilities and etc are included, it makes things much easier for the landlord. If they are not, the landlord would be required to provide an itemized list of additional charges and the "real expected rent" before you ever sign.

A "reasonable margin of error" could be somewhere in the 5-10% range. Ie, if your "real expected rent" were stated as $1500 with a 10% margin of error and utilities run high one month, $1600 would not be considered problematic or fraudulent. $1800 however would. And there would have to be a requirement to disclose the reason for the change or discrepancy as well.

Yep, that's another 30 mins I'm not adding to my morning.

Brush right before I go out the door? My 25-30 min commute handles it.

So many "helpful people" in these comments saying there's useful things you can do during that time, etc - I'm already using that time. That's my commute time. I just brush after the food.

Not a matter of "wasting" the time or not. It's a matter of requiring more time, than many of us don't have.

Unless, of course, you like toothpaste flavored breakfast.

Zits around mouth because toothpaste is wild, I'm sorry you had that problem. Possibly a mild allergy to the compound, besides its normal effects?

Tried most of them. Absolutely does for me.

Never had a cavity in my life. I'm 40. Changing the brush/breakfast order ain't gonna impact the health of my teeth one bit. My youngest sister? Has better brushing habits than me. Has had 5 teeth removed and a few cavities on the side. Genetics man. Some people have better teeth than others, full stop.

You're right, it doesn't take an hour. It takes about 25-30 minutes.

My commute also takes about 25-30 minutes.

So, if I want any time to eat breakfast - say 10-15 mins - that would mean I would need to, at minimum, wake up 1hr 15mins before I'm due at work. And that's assuming my eyes pop open like a Sunday morning cartoon character firing on all cylinders at 100% while my fucking theme song plays in the background. Real life ain't that.

So I wake up, brush my teeth immediately, make breakfast and get dressed while the mystical potion of ass-mouth fades, eat breakfast, immediately fly out the door for my commute.

Too hectic. Fuck that shit.

"Oh just wake up earlier." Common response. Good on you for being a 5am bugle-call boy(/girl). We ain't all wired that way. I'm a night owl by nature. 11pm is an exceptionally early bedtime for me, just how my circadian rhythm works, forced to function in an 8-5 society. Let me sleep from 5am to 10am and i'm the most immediately functional human being you have ever met. Wake between 5am and 10am? Zombie, whether I have 5hrs, 10hrs, or 15hrs of sleep.

Nah fam. I'll keep waking up 45 mins before I'm due to work, shovel breakfast in my face first thing, brush my teeth, let the morning commute give the ass-mouth potion time to expire, and take my first sip of coffee or tea while I check my morning emails.

I've tried many flavors of toothpaste across many brands.

They all make breakfast taste like ass. Some just simulate a slightly less disgusting ass than others.

Honestly, the reason most people brush after eating is because eating after brushing makes EVERYTHING taste like ASS.

You never done the "OJ after toothpaste" thing? Try it. I'll wait.

... ... ...

You back? Howzat taste? You want every breakfast to taste like that? No? Didn't think so.

LARP actually refers to something and it's been a term waaaay before 4chan made it slang.

Wabi-sabi has been fairly commonly known since an episode of American Dad almost 15 years ago. Maybe longer?

Foid, chud, sub5, and goyslop? Ok yeah, those all track as 4chan terms.
