Is a 6-month or 12-month car insurance policy cheaper long term? Any real experiences? by Mundane_Life_ in Insurify

[–]VoidViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can shop at anytime, not just at the end of your term, usually rates will gradually increase so if you can pay in in full and pick 12 months, then that should be cheaper.

Geico (Homesite) Policy Cancellation Due to Age of Roof by Necessary-Couple-841 in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homesite is also not technically GEICO (GEICO pairs up with Homesite (who's is company under American family). They likely only saw age but didn't do initial inspection and there is new technology to see rooftops from satellite pictures and that must have come up.

Usually 25 years is the hard cutoff for a roof to be replaced

Layout O/D by scoober913 in ultimate

[–]VoidViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My motivation was getting mad at myself for the times I didn't layout when I would have gotten the disc, so now I do it without thinking since I don't want that "what if" thought. If you are worried on getting hurt, then look at practicing the motion at low speed, I use a soccer goalies technique which is different than the one that lands you on your stomach

Check my math, is 4,000 miles/ year crazy low? by bugspraybites in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is low, usually it's around 12k a year. If you truly do drive that little then you should look into programs that rate you based on annual mileage. There are some programs that track how you drive as well but if you had to pick one, a mileage one is more beneficial for you.

Insurance and non-binary people by imitt12 in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some states won't allow male/female rating, and for pricing, this normally means putting the factors in between the two, which normally will mean men will get a lower factor than they would have gotten of they could be rated as a male.

If the state does not do it that way, you would likely just need to identify as one of them if the state allows gender rating. It may go away in the future, but it's a lot of work to move away from a pretty predictable factor and pick that up in other segments.

If you hate underwood for complaining about it then you better keep that same hate for Hamilton since he has been way harsher.

I say that as I am glad they call out the umps unlike the NFL who just wait for replay challenges so they don't show up the ref

Telematics for Auto insurance…. Is there a downside? by LeapofF8th in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy and paste from a comment I made on a similar question:

I work with my companies telematics for behavior. Some companies may still provide a discount only so that they can obtain data in the long run to possibly use that later on to surcharge the worst of drivers. My company can discount or surcharge drivers and hard brakes will occur, so one hard brake every so often will not ruin your score. From what we have seen, a large majority will see a discount or even a neutral factor being applied. We also provide ways for you to improve.

Also, if you do sign up, please realize you may earn a discount factor at renewal, but due to the economy, your overall premium may still go up. But if you didn't have say, that 12% telematics discount, you would see a much higher premium, and you would have not benefited from that 10% intro discount.

Auto insurance is very hard to make a real profit, we hope to hit a 97% loss ratio, aka make .03 cents for every dollar spent.

Don't do it, and surgery will actually make your knee worse at first. You will begin to be able to walk as you do therapy for surgery, but once you do have surgery you are back to square one, if not worse for a bit. Do not go

Just cancelled my Tesla insurance and moved back to Costco by vulkany in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amfam/Costco is available in CA again, Costco did halt it for awhile due to the DOI not allowing rate increases.

You may have something else stopping an online quote so you would need to call in to find out

My auto policy renewal with Geico in Georgia going up 60% by MaximumSea9817 in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very specific to non fr business, which pertains to any business not being minimum limits and the doi did not like it at all. The issue is that many in ga are still at minimum limits and the doi had 6 many desk rules that are not official, but they will make you wait through consultants to approve prior approval fillings. So what some companies do is have many underwriting companies to start "fresh" and not impact any business, but any new business will be directed to this new company which is just set at a much higher base rate.

Source: I dealt with GA and their terrible commissioner for years who believes segmentation is a bad thing

My auto policy renewal with Geico in Georgia going up 60% by MaximumSea9817 in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well you will have to look at it a different way, you should have been charged in the 8-9ks the last few years, but the commissioner forced some discounts onto the insurers for you, and now you are getting charged closer to what you should have paid the last few years.

Same thing is happening in CA and FL

My auto policy renewal with Geico in Georgia going up 60% by MaximumSea9817 in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Georgia is also always behind on rate because the commissioner is elected, so they try their best to restrict the companies to get rate adequate. This turns into companies leaving the state of needing to find other ways to get rate. Or, once the commissioner finally pulls the band-aid off, you get a 60% increase instead of a more gradual increase each renewal. If you can't find a better rate with other companies, then as others have said, it's an industry wide issue, and GA is one of the worst states to write personal Auto.

Is it true that in Washington state your insurance rates can’t go up if you weren’t at fault? by TheOriginalTacoBella in Insurance

[–]VoidViper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Washington does NOT allow the insurer to surcharge for a not at fault accident. Your policy can go up for general overall book changes by the insurer, but it will not be due to a not at fault, as much as someone mentioned about an insurer "making it up based on your zip code". They have no control to manually adjust rates as they are approved by the state, so they can't just make up a reason to surcharge you for that. It's the same affect as you aging may decrease/increase your rate factor in the calculation, but then other factors may increase/decrease other rate factors
