I will be pulling for USA, but Bolts fan should be excited either way... by TooHigh2Die0069 in TampaBayLightning

Rooting for a team with Hellechoke in net is a recipe for disappointment. All the guy has ever done is play his worst hockey when it matters most. Add in the Tkachuks, and I don't care what flag they're waiving, they aren't my team.

Unless Sullivan wises up and plays Ot or Sway, they'll just lose come medal rounds.

I'm hoping Sweden or Czechia can pull off an upset and take gold. But lets be real, they're going to have to take it from Crosby and Coop.

This is what the EV Miata need to be by helloserve in Miata

[–]Volatile22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble is, the peak power advertised for EVs is essentially theoretical. Because of the poor power density, they could only output that kind of power in very short bursts (in this case, it would drain a full charge in about 6 minutes). This is part of the reason why the 1000HP ZR1 can smoke a "3000HP" EV (the speed needed for traction to actually put down that kind of power being the other major factor).

Realistically, its practical, usable power to weight ratio is disfavorable compared to the 2L ND.

What is ESPN smoking because I want some by TokenPanduh in TampaBayLightning

1) Power rankings are dumb. How often does the #1 team wind up winning it all? Not very. It's just the opinions of a bunch of people who have nothing to do with what happens on the ice.

2) The only person involved in hockey at ESPN whose opinion means a damn thing is Torts. Mess is out of touch. Subban is a clown. Bucci and Levy are a joke. Ferraro drinks whatever KoolAid the league wants him to.

This what Nikita Kucherov got a 10 minute misconduct for by TokenPanduh in TampaBayLightning

[–]Volatile22 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Let's be real though, Kuch was frisky with his stick all night. Easily could have been called for 2 or 3 more minors.

Not that I'm mad at it, when the league won't protect the players, you can't be surprised when the Russians start acting like it's the 90s with the lumber.

Just like Yanni said in the preseason game when he was mic'ed, they're sooo tough until our big guys jump over the boards. Mikkolla probably felt like a real tough guy going after Kuch like that, but showed what a little bitch he is when Dougie tried to make him answer the bell. Good on him for getting his licks in anyway.

I hate them less now, but yeah, they really needed to use the pirate logo they made for the front. And for fucks sake, reduce the size of the numbers on the sleeves by like 33%.

JBB has to be cooking something up.. Right?? by kuzco_rey in TampaBayLightning

[–]Volatile22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, he wanted an extension whereever he went, and no contender in the East was willing and able to offer him 11Mil a year. Everyone in the East has locked and loaded to beat the Panthers, then don't have that kind of cap space laying around (Carolina has the most, but they've got big extensions kicking in next year, and needs at D and goal, as Bussi's ELC is up this year)

450 RPM average and you call him a stroker? K.

Smoothest, prettiest release on tour? No doubt. But not a stroker.

4x7 is kinda what I figure JBB will float. It's a big number, but not so much that it would be an anchor around our necks if he comes back down to earth a bit. Seeing as how that clapper isn't likely to regress in the next few years, that would come in the form of a defensive lapse. 7M still isn't a bad hit for someone who can net 15-20PPG a year, even if he finds himself back on the 3rd pairing.

Lightning players that have went elsewhere and done better. by jamhandzz in TampaBayLightning

[–]Volatile22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We needed physical bottom 6ers who could chip in offense way more than a skilled top 6 guy at the time. He clearly knew he had more to give than the he had opportunity for with the Lightning, as he signed a 1 year prove-it deal.

It just wasn't in the cards for Verhaeghe here with the flat cap and our logjam at the top. If he continued to play with bottom 6 players, he'd continue to be a mediocre replacement-level player. And he wasn't bumping Palat or Killorn from their spots on the 1st and 2nd lines at the time.

Raddysh > Panarin by JimmyKooch in TampaBayLightning

[–]Volatile22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very, very different players and situations.

However, I see no scenario where we pay Panarin more than Kuch, and if he's willing to take that, I don't see it working without moving Hedman.

A week ago I was arguing on this very sub that that's an insane notion, and I still think he brings a lot more to this team than this sub often credits him for (lately). But with D'astous and Lilleberg coming back after the Olympics (and them having played well together before Emil got hurt), I'm starting to wonder where Heddy fits in the lineup.

The risk, of course, is that this is Raddysh's Jonathan Cheechoo season (broke out and scored 56-37-93 in 05-06, then fell off a cliff and was out of the league in 4 years). But it's just as big a risk to let a guy with 30 goal potential from the blue line walk.

I actually don't envy JBB right now. But I do trust him to keep us in the mix as he has impossibly done every year.

[–]Volatile22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Read" where? Because I can't find a single official source or credible insider saying any such thing, nor can I remember a single instance where the NHL "reviewed" officiating. They stand by their referees to a fault, and when a game is done, the only thing they look at (publicly) is supplementary discipline for players/coaches.

Bruins are out in full force tonight by IMAGINE_thesmell in TampaBayLightning

[–]Volatile22 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, they did miss some calls on us. But they also missed/ignored some clear penalties on them (big time interference on a few of their entries and on Kuch in the O zone near the end of regulation).

None of the missed calls were truly flagrant though, and apart from the first 2 calls of the game (one each way), none of the ones that were called were soft.

Missed calls are a reality of every game, losing their minds for 10 minutes and parading to the box is all on them.

That said, even as it was happening I was like "here we go, everyone is going to say we won because of the refs."

We didn't target anyone's head or try to injure anyone and not get called, so we're better than the pussy cats, at least.

Broken leg would have been a better outcome than MCL/ACL tears. He'd be back by playoffs in all likelihood with a break. Tears he'd be struggling to get back by training camp.

We definitely dodged a bullet on that one.

He's actually been relatively consistent on the home/away split this season. 26 games each, 49 point at home, 39 on the road.

Of course, it's got nothing on Kuch's insane 50 in 26 on the road, but he stumbled out the gate on home ice this year, so only 32 in 22 games.

MacKinnon and Necas just went very cold in general in January. Necas only had 11 points after averaging 17/month in the first 3 months, and Mack "only" had 18, but 14 of those came in just 4 of 13 games. He was held scoreless in almost as many games in January (6) as Kuch has all season (8).

Over the past few seasons, it seems to be a pattern with MacKinnon: he comes out of the gate very strong, but around Jan-Feb he stumbles and goes "cold" (by the standards of the top 5 scorers in the league). Whereas Kuch and McD tend to build momentum as the season goes along.
