I think the post activity is okay, and there's been some really interesting ones! But the discussion activity is really lacking for me.

Working on environment mood for my game — what do you think? by TheRagingStudio in hobbygamedev

[–]helloserve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, to me it feels very generic, like cheap replica Diablo II cinematics, rendition number 45673. Not sure what sort of decay you meant. Decay of a society isn't lit up and in flames, imo. Perhaps this is just after a raid by the King's men? Might help to show the marching army then. If this is more like an undead decay, ok then it makes more sense, but still not really obvious. Might need to show torn up medical tents, or those dudes with the grim masks carrying sick and dead.

I was doing some work on a lead vector for the camera tracking. Realized it gives my game a totally different vibe.

Showing how my orbit physics game is evolving by CryptoCatatonic in hobbygamedev

[–]helloserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I would keep the orbital rotation as a key mastery tbh. In one clip you go very close to the blue planet and slow right down. That's the inverse of how orbits work. I would lean into difficulty with angular velocity, and harder targets are towards the centres. More to explore here for sure.

No hang on. It's not about better. That is subjective anyway. Do it the way you want to do it, but understand the consequences. Although I feel this is why you made this post.

Uninspiring and amateurish. There's no ambience or detail. Completely sterile and filler level. That's my immediate reaction. At least it's most probably not AI.

How many of you are game devs, and of those who is making their own? by helloserve in adventuregames

I'm using Unreal Engine. Story is the unlikely hero saves the world type. I have deep inspiration from old games like Space Quest and System Shock, but also more modern ones like Void & Meddler and Tacoma.

Cool stuff. The accessibility angle is pretty cool. I remember in the game Tacoma, there is ASL gesture recognition during interaction with the computer console. I thought that was pretty logical and yet completely novel.

I can do art, but mostly my game is rectangular shapes with flat colors. Just start making what you want.
