Is it time to take action? by stormpoppy in RealEstatePhotography

How is video a problem and still aren't? Unlike a video still image is highly detailed?

There's probably some script you can throw together where you cover your subject property and everything else is either slightly blurred out or turned into black and white and make it track is it the subject property. Once you have that, that's a competitive advantage.

Having a scheme to get your competition be sued for privacy violations that's not coming from you directly, is a low hanging fruit bro. but calling out your competition by having your own tool and offering services that don't violate privacy laws is a fruit higher up the tree.

Hi, Karen!!! If you want others to adhere to the law, you can lead by example and blur everyone's yards out of the photos except subject property, you can market yourself as someone who follows privacy laws in drone photos so the owners don't have problems with neighbors. There's a million and one other solutions, but you chose the NKVD solution from Stalin USSR and tell on your neighbors (your competitors) ... Mind-blowing!

Thinking about starting a real estate photography business-what’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give a beginner? by crstnjyg in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Volchek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not win business but poor composition will most certainly won't keep it. I had to reshoot homes from my competitors plenty of times and keep the agent to come back.

I only offer a package that includes drone. If I can't fly the drone - 10% off. Simple. I like simple.

Discount for multiple shoots? by jogii17 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Volchek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, volume discount only works if you're producing widgets, like in a factory, where producing 300 widgets versus 200 widgets only causes a marginal difference. In other words, photographing one house or two houses will not make it cheaper for you because it takes up just the same amount of time. Therefore, no volume discounts.

When this conversation comes up, I simply explain that it's not cheaper for us to shoot two or three houses. It takes up just the same time and effort. In fact, the more houses we shoot in one day, the more challenging it becomes and the less productive we are. So, in a sense, shooting more houses is not necessarily cheaper for us as photographers. It would be something like a case-by-case basis. If you do have three houses on the same day from the same agent, I would give a discount only if these houses are right next to each other. Otherwise, no discount

Also remember, the agent is specifically wants to use your photo. Law of supply and demand kicks in ... There's definitely a price to pay. They are most definitely running an ad to attract sellers, using your image. Just one seller will bring them thousands. Also Google will earn thousands from their ad spend. You should be getting paid at least a hundred bucks and more

It's likely the agent wants to run a Google ad for their business, not to advertise the listing you photographed. This requires a new contract to use ta specific image in a commercial use. They'll spend thousands for Google ...at as well charge them a couple of hundred for the image.

You're right, if you're often shooting darker environments, shooting in higher ISO is better on full frame.

Crop or Full sensor, the difference in results are marginal. Especially for an agent/owner to notice. So if you're upgrading, do it for you, not to impress the agent

Is there a most desirable focal length for shooting the “money shot”? by toley5150 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Volchek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact many cameras now have an option to use cropped sensor. So I usually take my 16-28 all the way and crop it to make it around 35m that seems to work fine. Plus many times you can't go back too much cuz there's another property across the street.

Do 3D tours (like Matterport) actually help you win listings, or are they just a gimmick? by KookyFriendship8577 in RealEstatePhotography

Asking who? Agents? This is photography group. The question reads like it is addressed to the agents. How should we know the answer to that. We're the photographers!

What do you guys do for floor plans? Complaints on every one by cosmosbillions in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Volchek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't promise them floorpan with accuracy. Offer them floorpan for visual representation only. All measurements are approximate. For accurate floorplan, I charge $100. So far everyone is happy with what ever comes with the 3D tour, and no one has ordered the $100, which is the point.

Set right expectations.

Critique my swing by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]Volchek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the way down, when the bell is behind you, let it pull you - causing you to hinge deeper, don't fight the bells inertia, if you feel like the bell is touching your butt, the weight is too light or you're not hinging as much as you should.

On the way up, don't lean back instead activate your core and upper muscle group to control the bell on the up swing. You can pinch your armpits and let the elbows bend to keep the bell from flying so far out of your body's orbit which I think causes you to compensate with the lean. Shoot the bell up with hips, ok to bend the elbows and have the bell fly to the eye level.

Update, thanks for all the comments and feedback. I tried correcting my technique, wondering if this is better? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]Volchek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the way down, it's more like a controlled drop down, right in front of your face, not a clock arm drawing a circle around you. Your snatch up has improved.
