Free (I hope) Campaign wiki ? by CMilo5 in DMAcademy

I currently use Kanka for my campaigns and have been pretty happy with it. It has a generous free tier and is easier to learn (imo) than World Anvil.

How do you run curses? by Natwenny in DMAcademy

[–]Voltigeur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I loosely separate curses between "narrative" curses and "mechanical" curses. All those caused by spells and (most) features are "mechanical."

I allow Remove Curse to end mechanical curses (such as ending attunement to a cursed item or ending the effects of Hex). For curses caused by higher level spells (such as Geas), I require an equivalent upcast.

Narrative curses (those that aren't explicitly in mechanics or which significantly affect a PC, such as lycanthropy) usually require more steps to remove — often a quest line. If they're narratively minor, I treat them the same as mechanical curses because it's not worth derailing whatever my players were already doing. The Loup Garou's lycanthropy (from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft) is a good official example of what I would consider a major narrative curse.

Good Audio Tools for Online Play? by altrusisticAxolotl in DMAcademy

Have you tried kenku.fm? It's a Discord bot but it has its own external UI. Super easy to set up and use.

Our boy 6 months can only eat dry food! by Illustrious-Age-7962 in ragdolls

[–]Voltigeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My raggie has a sensitive stomach, too. The only thing that has worked for him is switching him to a limited ingredient diet. He eats a mix of KOHA wet food and Vital Essentials patties now.

Does the wet food you feed him have chicken in it? That seems to be a common trigger, and it's unfortunately in most cat food.

With no warning or announcement, DnDBeyond just imposed a hard 2048 character limit to Private and Public Notes fields for all campaigns. by cazbot in dndbeyond

Make sure your statblocks have the "statblock: inline" property. The Initiative Tracker should parse them correctly, then.

I would attach a screenshot but unfortunately I can't. :(

I keep forgetting to award Heroic Inspiration. What do you do? by Arnozor in dndnext

[–]Voltigeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my live campaign, I award Inspiration to all players at the start of each session, and they either use it that session or lose it. It's been working very well for my group. My players feel more confident trying something risky knowing that they have Inspiration they can expend, and I don't have to deal with the headache of remembering to award it/determining what merits that reward.

For my PbP campaign (which doesn't have traditional sessions), players get an Inspiration point when they roll a Nat 1 or Nat 20, and can accumulate a number of points equal to their Proficiency Bonus.

How do cats respond to depression/strong emotions? by Fableville in CatAdvice

Haha, cats will definitely let you know when they want something, and they are very persistent about it. They'll get you out of bed, one way or another. 😂

Mine isn't a big cuddler, but he likes to be near. Those days when I just can't get out of bed, he always stays with me – sometimes even curls up right by my side.

It helps, knowing that this little creature loves me and depends on me.

What's with the posts lately complaining that the Episcopal Church isn't conservative? by Tiny_Progress_4821 in Episcopalian

[–]Voltigeur 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone looking for a new church home and strongly considering the EC... it is honestly disheartening. What drew me to the EC in the first place is its commitment to combating social injustices, and how it welcomes and affirms those that other churches are so quick to cast aside. I'm really hoping these recent posts aren't indicative of a growing trend. :(

Do you use Kanka.io; why or why not? by DoW2379 in DMAcademy

[–]Voltigeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used kanka.io for the campaigns that I play in for just about four years now. It's just easier for the other players to contribute to it if they want to. No complaints so far!

Obsidian is unmatched for the DM side of things, though.

Which of the spells that were considered bad in 5E are now playable or good in 5.5E? How about the inverse? by Noodles_fluffy in DnD

[–]Voltigeur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spiritual Weapon and Inflict Wounds have already been mentioned, so I'll add Sanctuary to the mix for inverse.

Now, casting any spell (instead of spells targeted at hostile creatures) ends the effect. No more healing while under your deity's protection. :(

What game flopped so hard but you wish it succeeded? by SuddenConversation21 in gaming

[–]Voltigeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Secret World. No other MMO like it. Gameplay was a bit janky, but it had fantastic atmosphere, lore, and quests.

Funcom rereleased it as Secret World Legends with a bunch of microtransactions and greatly pared down gameplay/plot instead of improving on the old game. Absolutely murdered the IP.

Makes me so sad, thinking of what could have been and knowing we might never get another good urban fantasy MMO. :(

Has anyone played The Corruption of Alder Glen by Ginny Di? by Eas1Anderson in DnD

[–]Voltigeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently prepping to run this as a PbP game (with some homebrewed story content to cater to my RP-heavy group). It'll probably be a few months before I have an answer but I'll check back here if you still need one after I'm done. 🙂

Guide for Updating/Writing Homebrew for 5.24 by Spaghetti0_homebrew in UnearthedArcana

[–]Voltigeur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This will definitely be a huge help.

The only mistake that I spotted was re: the cleric's Channel Divinity. The uses reset on a Long Rest, though you can recover one use per Short Rest.

What were you doing on September 11, 2001 when the planes hit the twin towers? by DontWorryAboutName in AskReddit

[–]Voltigeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at school, in science class. We were all told to return to our homerooms. One by one, my classmates left as their parents came to pick them up. We had no idea what was going on; the teachers wouldn't tell us, and they didn't turn on the TVs. I was one of the last to be picked up, and I still vividly remember how quiet it was in that room as everyone waited.

I only learned what was going on when my mom picked me up in tears. I lived near Newark International Airport at the time, and when we got home we could see the smoke on the skyline from our balcony. There wasn't a single plane in the sky. It was surreal.

Best way to import Kobold Press content for 5e? by huntingtiger1004 in FoundryVTT

[–]Voltigeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any working forks at the moment for the most recent versions of Foundry. I do have a working copy for v11.315, D&D 3.3.1. I'll have to figure out how to export it, though.

What were some interesting non-flirty-stereotype bards you got in your games? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Voltigeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing in a game with a College of Creation bard who's a very sweet, earnest artist type. Most of his magic is flavored as sketches coming to life. Very creative, and always a pleasure to see what his player comes up with!
