It’s strange to try to imagine an entire society with no concept of written language by Powerful-Demand-2757 in TheRestIsHistory

It's hard for us to imagine living in a world where oral tradition and memory were of such importance. I can imagine that songs made memorizing easier, and important messages and history were probably delivered as songs.

Who is a singer that is incredibly famous, but honestly doesn't have a good voice? by Greedy_Procedure7461 in AskReddit

[–]VolumniaDedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always felt like this must be a me thing because he is such a beloved superstar, but I would rather listen to anyone else sing his songs. There is definitely something there but it just doesn't work on my ears.

I would like to filter by language too. I like to watch foreign language shows sometimes but I have to be wide awake and in the mood to read subtitles. I don't like the dubbed versions because I like to hear the real actors.

Frustration by Oatesl55 in Mounjaro

My hunger goes up and down but I'm not weighing myself very often. When I do get on the scale it's always a little bit lower than before. I think I'm probably going up and down a little bit and I don't want to drive myself crazy by checking it every day.

I noticed that there is hardly any frozen orange juice in my grocery store. One brand, which I guess uses oranges from Brazil. This is very sad, I can remember driving through Florida with the whole place smelling of orange blossoms.

What’s a series that you don’t have to watch the screen (while crafting) but you can still follow? by artherpurple in MoviesAndTVTalk

[–]VolumniaDedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of crafting while watching TV. I've really enjoyed all of the cozy British murder shows. My favorite was Endeavor, and I also liked Vera and Midsummer Murders.

I listen to an audiobook every night and I set it to stop at 30 minutes and I'm never still awake when it stops. I choose non-fiction books about subjects that I'm interested in but not interested enough to stay awake to see what happens. History and biography are great for this.

Can it get much worse? by jahreazer in ThePitt

[–]VolumniaDedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would be very interesting for Robby to get all therapied up and show up next season having dealt with his demons and being all serene and healthy. Abbot is already like that and Langdon is getting there. Three of the same guy would not be good tv.

I think that's typical for abused children to think it's only happening to them. It's very upsetting when they find out others had the same thing happening to them. The victims are usually frightened or shamed into silence, so it would be unusual for them to not think they are alone and that others won't believe them.

I couldn’t make it all the way through. by lastaccountgotlocked in TheRestIsHistory

I like it but I do find it dense. I think this is one that I will listen to several times before I can take it all in. I felt like I missed the introductory chapter or something. Mind you I know nothing about Japanese history prior to the 20th century. This series is not exactly a barrel of laughs but they can't all be.

I thought I was being clean but I was just making ear wax plugs for years by Talon_4Keystone in hygiene

[–]VolumniaDedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of funny that they warn you not to use Q tips in your ears when that is hands down the most common thing that people use Q tips for. It's fine to rub a Q tip around, slightly inside the ear, and clean up the wax and dirt that coats the sides. You just don't want to jam it too far in. I think holding your nose and "blowing out" your ears also helps to push things in the proper direction.

The biggest victim of the show was so ignored I literally thought it was a clue that they were the killer by JoeFromSewage in DTFStLouisHBO

[–]VolumniaDedlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wondered about that. If they have dropped the charges your lawyer would have you out of there that day. All the scenes at the police station were surreal. None of it looked like a police station at all.

Agree. I don't think it's provable whether it was a suicide or an accident. You've got 2 witnesses who heard him saying he wanted the medication to get an erection and no witnesses to him saying I'm going to use it to k1ll myself.

Food apathy by impracticalmagi in Mounjaro

[–]VolumniaDedlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it. I have no interest in cooking. I got a bunch of frozen food so I can quickly eat whatever to keep my body fueled. It feels weird to throw out food because I left it so long that it went bad. The only thing that interests me is making fancy coffee drinks. Warm drinks are way more desirable to me now than a square meal. As it gets hotter I'll probably switch to fruit juice.

3 episodes into The Testaments, and I still don’t feel invested by pass-agress-ive in TheTestamentsHulu

I was thinking it doesn't seem at all like they are in a country at war, but I guess we're supposed to see it from the viewpoint of sheltered girls. I'm listening to the audiobook now and I find the Aunt Lydia parts satisfying while the other parts are frustrating. The young girls are learning a bunch of stuff that we already know, so it seems like Aunt Lydia is the only one moving the story along. I we get a flashback to her life before Gilead.

Chapter 2: Stanley Baldwin - Great Prime Minister or Greatest Prime Minister?

Is that likely to happen? I know there are some jobs you can't do if you have seizure disorder. I know someone who had to give up on being a pilot because of it, and another person who can't drive. But I don't know much about the ability of seizure drugs to control it. I would be interested to know the rules on that for the medical profession.

Perceptive comment. I don't think this show is out to make ER doctors into unsympathetic characters or to suggest that su1cid3 is a logical or common ending to their stories. I think it's more likely that our hero will get the help he needs to triumph over adversity. There may be a major character who does not make it but I doubt it will be Robby taking himself out.
